More About the Author

Craig M. Juntunen is the founder and president of the Both Ends Burning campaign (www.bothendsburning.org), a comprehensive effort to reform the current system of international adoption, making it more affordable and less bureaucratic for American families. He and his wife Kathi adopted their Haitian-born children - Amelec, Esperancia, and Quinn -- in 2006. Juntunen is a child welfare advocate and a passionate believer in international adoption. After a successful career, Juntunen used proceeds of the sale of his business to found Chances for Children, a foundation which supports a creche in Lamardelle, Haiti, and which has placed more than 100 children in loving adoptive families in the last three years. He is engaged in working with policymakers, partners, and other supporters of international adoption to bring long-lasting improvements to the process and get more orphaned children into loving families. Juntunen is also the national spokesman for the Haiti Renewal Fund, a foundation that is dedicated to a fresh renewal of the devastated nation of Haiti. The fund commits to efforts that extend beyond immediate relief needs and promotes the long-term rebuilding and revitalization of Haiti -- its infrastructure, its economy, its people -- its future. Juntunen has been involved in many other philanthropic causes. He enjoyed a successful athletic career, culminating as a quarterback in the Canadian Football League. He is a member of the University of Idaho Hall of Fame and the State of Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame.

This was simply the most inspirational book I have ever read. It was so full of heart that I felt mine opening with each word. I actually went to a hotel one night just to have peace and quiet to finish it. Craig's honesty, simplicity and great humanitarian spirit made this book exceptional. Not only am I inspired to be a better parent to my 3 1/2 year old son but I am having my husband read this book so we can seriously consider international adoption. After reading this book, I am ready to adopt now.

I laughed, cried and went deep inside my soul. I coach people to help live their passionate calling and follow their hearts. Craig is a living demonstration of following his calling and his heart and not looking back! Truly this is the best book I have read. I have never been this moved by a book and can't wait to see it on film as I know it will be someday. Thank you Craig for being a role model and making such a difference in the world by following your heart.

Successful, financially-set guy, gets in touch with a new dimension of himself and improves the world in the process. Easy, enjoyable read. Had me laughing, crying, feeling distraught and ultimately, hopeful ... for the family, the adopted kids and (at least a few of) the orphans of Haiti.

What a heartfelt account of a soul transforming event. Makes you want to do something about the lost children of Haiti. Very well written and paced, this book will hold your attention through laughter and tears. I only wish the book was longer, I would love to hear more about these amazing children as they grow up....hoping for the sequel!

I loved it. I absolutely loved it. My wife and I read it out loud together. It's a very easy read. We both laughed many times and I'm embarrassed to say I might have cried as much as her!

There are many simple metaphors for life within the text. You naturally fall in love with the children and the miraculous events that bring them all together as a family but you unexpectedly fall in love with the author and his wife as they have their upper-class world turned upside down by deciding to adopt.

Mr. Juntunen is so honest that it takes you in from the first sentence... ("I had a vasectomy when I was 30.") It's a straightforward account of a very selfish man undergoing an emotional open heart surgery by giving up the shallow material pleasures of the world for a life of fatherhood and family at the age of 51. I found myself rooting for him the whole time. It's pure redemption for all the good dads out there.

DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF... you are not prepared to consider adoption no matter what you may have previously thought in your life because the author shows how the most unlikely people in the world might just be blindsided by a fateful urge to adopt kids that literally comes out of thin air and as a reader you are constantly forced to ask yourself what you would do in the same situation... and NOT adopting these kids is simply never an option once the author has his "Field of Dreams" epiphany!

Again, I absolutely loved it.

Both Ends Burning is the most inspirational story I have ever come across! Craig holds nothing back, he allows us to relive the journey with the entire family while revealing his raw emotions and sheer excitement. I have read the book twice and shared it with everyone I come in contact with, this is the start of something amazing for the Juntunen family and I have no doubt that they will continue to empower and inspire.

I have had the privilege of spending my last 3 summers watching Amelec, Espie and Quinn flourish into breathtakingly beautiful children. I cannot say enough amazing things about the Juntunen family and the way they have touched so many lives around them. As a young adult I can only use this positive message, as a springboard into my own future and because of Kathi and Craig I hope to one day be the proud parent of 4 Haitian boys! Thank you Craig, Kathi, Amelec, Espers and Quinny!

"Both Ends Burning" reminds us of the lessons life can teach us when we least expect them and in the most unusual ways. This is not your common adoption story in many ways, making their journey even more intriguing and inspiring. Very well-written and enjoyable to read.

I appreciated the humor, the realness of their struggles, and the beauty of the joy and love realized by all involved. A story you don't want to put down because a happiness fills your heart knowing the lives of these children are positively changed forever.

Every child needs a home, and every home is blessed by a child taken in by love. Thankfully the Juntunen family can be an example to others to take the leap of faith in pursuing adoption, making a difference and leaving a wonderful legacy.

I ABSOLUTELY loved this book. I couldn't put it down, which was a mistake since I started it at 11:00 pm on a school night! It made me laugh, cry, and reflect on my own experiences/ skills as a parent. Craig is a talented, witty, humble writer who has a wonderful story to share. He and his wife Kathi are champions of international adoption, parenting, and every child who needs a helping hand. This book is a perfect gift for anyone who is a parent or hopes to become one, we can all relate to their story..... I can't wait for a sequel. I'm giving it for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and Teacher Appreciation gifts.
