4.0 out of 5 stars Depends on the bottle January 11, 2012
By bark
This is great for beginners and casual home brewers.

Two things you have to know to make this useful and ensure longevity of your purchase:

1. It's functionality depends on the bottles you use. Pretty much all standard 12 and 22 oz. bottles that are purchased by the case from your usual homebrew supplier are compatible with this capper. Obviously, don't use twist off bottles, but if the lip of the bottle is about 5/8 to 3/4 of an inch, it's going to work. However, if you're recycling bottles, many of them have a much shorter lip. If the lip of the bottle is 1/2 an inch or less, the two metal plates that provide the leverage for the capper won't exactly grab hold where they should and you'll end up fighting with it. The capper will end up sticking in the down position, or the cap will crimp on slightly askew, if at all. This will result in wasted caps, possibly broken bottles, an improper seal (which means spoiled beer), and a really frustrated you. If recycling bottles, just take a look at the beer you're buying (again, no twist offs). Some examples; the capper works great with Sam Adams and New Belgium bottles, but not so much with Sapporo, Moretti, Pacifico, and Dos XX bottles.

2. Don't power through it. It's a bottle capper, not an iron man competition. It doesn't require a feat of strength to work it, so once you feel the cap give, just gently follow through. The capper will last longer and you won't dent the top of your caps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for champagne bottles, too! August 1, 2011
This is a great capper. Another review suggested that it doesn't work on champagne bottles. Certainly, this may be true for corking. However, the metal plates also support 29mm necks, you just need to use a screwdriver and a few taps from the back, underneath the handles, to pop them out. Once the plates are out, turn them around and as long as the cap will fit (beer caps in the US are generally 26mm), you can cap it. The crown also screws out and can be replaced for 29mm caps. I've used this on champagne bottles with 26mm caps and it works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy and effective November 17, 2010
I have used this bottle capper for 3 batches so far. It is constructed really solid and looks like it is going to hold up well. After the first few bottles, I could tell it was much better than my other one. Because of the design, I can cap a lot faster with this one too. Its kind of ugly though.

worked great. The beer was good. I used recycled bottles. The seal held up and there were no spoiled beers.

4.0 out of 5 stars kind of works
It definitely seals the bottle but the caps are way too easy to pop off which makes me really nervous about their longevity. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Bottle Capper
This experience may be exclusive to me. I found that though the capper bends the bottle caps and locks them to the bottle, the bottle are not sealed. I was a little dissappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great
For the price, this is a nice easy working capper. It's plastic, but it still does the trick. It's not heavy and it's very smooth when capping bottles. Read more
