4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!, August 20, 2006
FROM BACK COVER:

Why stop at just one night--when he can buy so
many more...?

Greek multimillionaire Luke Devetzi will do anything to get Jemma Barnes back in his bed for a night of blazing passion...

When Luke discovers that Jemma's father is in financial trouble and in need of a loan, he is willing to pay it...but only if Jemma agrees to become his convenient wife!

If you are familiar with Jacqueline Baird's books, then you either hate her heroes or you love them, no in-betweens. The hero in this book, Luke, although he's demonstrated some ruthlessness, isn't as overbearing as some of her other heroes...

Luke met and fell in love with Jemma a year ago, they had a one-night stand, but he kicked her out after he thaught she was married...

Jemma was feeling very vulnerable on the night she met Luke, she was missing her husband, so was susceptible to Luke's charms on the night they met, causing her to act in a way that she normally wouldn't...

Luke and Jemma met up again at her sister's birthday party and the attraction is still there. Luke uses the fact that Jemma's family need money to get her into his life...

I really liked the heroine, Jemma, she was really in love with her first husband and he loved her too. And the love and respect she showed his parents was really quite touching. Luke was likable, but what he did to the silver necklace that was a gift to Jemma from her husband was really mean--I understand why he did it-- but it was still mean. Luke's Grandfather--Theo, was a sweetheart and really quite funny. What I also appreciated about this book was that, although Luke and Jemma had a one-night-stand, she didn't get pregnant!!

The attraction between Luke and Jemma was very intense, and the love scenes simply sizzled. All in all this was a very good book, and at times amusing.

3.0 out of 5 stars jealous of her deceased husband, October 5, 2010
Widowed heroine is shocked to meet her one-time lover from a year ago. She slept with him when she was drunk & grieving her deceased husband. She tries to resist him now b/c he's dating his stepsister & she's still holding on to her deceased husband's memory. But Hero is determined to make her his & obtain the villa that heroine now owns for his grandfather. So he blackmails her to marry him & sets out to be the man in her life instead of her dead husband.

I had mixed feeling about this Baird book. On one hand, Baird's writing, emotional involvement, & dialogue were good. On the other hand, I was disturbed by the amount of time the book spent on heroine still in love & grieving her 1st husband. It wasn't until 3/4 of the book that heroine cut emotional ties with her dead husband & began to feel love towards hero. It was believable & her difficulty letting go of her 1st husband's memory is understandable. I just don't like reading so much of it my romance novels. I felt sorry for Hero but also wondered if maybe a big part of his persistence with heroine was b/c of his hurt pride when heroine informed him that she mistook him for her deceased husband when she 1st met him. I understood Hero's manipulative & sometimes mean behavior towards heroine when her deceased husband is involved. He was competing with someone who was dead. I liked how he wooed her to love him. It was refreshing to get hero's POV along with heroine. Sexual chemistry & love scenes were good.

Partly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars brought by the greek tycoon, March 3, 2008
One of my favorites. This book tells the tale from a male point of view. The hero falls in love-HARD. The hero almost drove himself crazy with jealousness over the heroine's deceased husband.

2.0 out of 5 stars One night stands and marriages..., September 10, 2007
Widow Jemma is content with her life, until she comes across Luke Devetzi, who hasn't been able to stop thinking about her since their one-night stand a year ago. But wait there's more, like so many other Harlequin heroines, this girl's family is in serious financial distress. In walks the hero (Luke), or in this case one Greek with a serious axe to grind, and offers the typical proposition. When he gathers enough incriminating information against Jemma's father, he then proposes marriage in exchange for paying off her father's debts... [and get this there is always a reason behind the madness] so his children will inherit Jemma's villa, which once belonged to his family. Jacqueline Baird's Bought by the Greek Tycoon was not one of my favourite books, if you must read it, get a used copy. Don't make the mistake I did and purchase a new one.
