Gentle Read - Very Good, May 2, 2011
This review is from: Bought: The Penniless Lady (Harlequin Historical) (Kindle Edition)
First I have to say this is a Harlequin Historical. I didn't look for that but I don't mind. If you consider Harlequin's too tame, they you may not want to read this. This was a great read. Artemis and Hadrien are two reasonable people, I find that very unusual in historical romances. Most have a foundation of people who simply won't talk or ask questions.
Hadrien and Artemis get off to a rough start. She blames him and his family for the death of her sister and brother. Hadrien blames her family for the death of his brother. Both are hurting because of the loss of loved ones and Artemis stands to lose the only person she loves -her nephew Lee. Hadrien is not aware that his brother fathered a son. As soon as he learns about the child he wants him, so that he can fulfill the plans he had for his brother.
Since they both want their nephew, they strike an agreement - a marriage of convenience - Hadrien will be leaving to return to the Orient in 8 months and Artemis will raise Lee on her on.
This is a very heartwarming story and the characters were well defined, they interacted beautifully and within the scope of the story they were great.
There are two books before this on and one after it. I had already started reading it before I was aware so I'll have to catch up.
The other books are:
Seduced: The Scandalous Virgin
Married: The Virgin Widow
Brought: The Penniless Lady (This Book)
Wanted: Mail-Order Mistress

A Very Enjoyable Read! Highly Recommended!, April 5, 2011
What more could you ask for? Romance, Travel, History, Suspense... This book is the engaging story of Hadrian and Artemis. Hadrian is a business man who has had a life-full of terrible tribulations. Now he's lost his remaining younger brother in a duel. BUT... the brother has sired a son. Artemis lost her parents at a young age and had raised her younger sister & brother. Now she's raising her sister's son. I don't want to disclose any more but, rest assured, their story is a very enjoyable read. Now I have to read the other two in this series!

Enjoyable read, touching and romantic, June 24, 2011
I won't give a synopsis of the entire plot as it has been done except to say that two people determinded to cling to a child born to, Hadrian's brother and Artemis' sister. Hadrian and Artemis will each do anything to hold on to the child, including wed one another, rather then let their only connection with a departed sibling disolve into emptyness or fight one another through a long legal process.
There is however a small delusion. both are attracted to one another which makes the arrangement self satisfying. There is no denying the attraction and each reason's that this is the best for the child.
Hadrian is a self made businessman, who does most of his business out of the country and tells Artemis that she will be able to raise their nephew as his wife at Hadrian's home. However, he blames the sister of Artemis' for causing this end to his brother.
Artimis is content with the arrangement, which gets her out of her uncle's home into a home of her own. She won't have to endure Hadrian in the home for a protacted length of time since he will be leaving. Artemis in turn also blames Lee, Hadrian's deceased brother, for seducing her young sister and later involves her brother.
Yet, as the two get to know one another, emotions begin to evolve and slowly their attaction for one another is recognized and acted upon. The battle is for each of these characters to overcome there reserve and fears of love and realize that love sometimes will erase the past and make a future brighter.
This is a sweet charming romance that I enjoyed and recommend.
