This review is from: Boughton: String Quartets / Oboe Quartet No. 1 (Audio CD)
Primarily known for opera work, Boughton here provides some pastoral and beautiful chamber works for string quartet and oboe. His fascination with oboe owed to his daughter Joy being one of great oboe soloists. Here is some composed with her in mind, and Oboe Quartet and Three Songs without Words, in effect itself an oboe quartet. It is fresh, sweet and joyous music with nice combo of strings and singing oboe, provided adequately by Sarah Francis and Rasumosvsky Quartet respectively. |
