Our new house has a petanque court. We'd heard of and played bocce, but not its French-Spanish cousin, which is played on a shorter, wider court with smaller, heavier steel balls. My husband bought this set so we could try the court, and we played after Thanksgiving dinner with the family. None of us had ever heard of the game, let alone played it, so we don't have anything to compare it to except bocce. It's pretty different, and much easier to play, especially for people like me with small hands; bocce balls are just a teench too big for my hands. These are a little smaller than tennis balls and fit nicely into even the kids' hands. And they are heavier than bocce balls, so they have a nice heft and roll true. Because they are made of stainless, we assume that they will last forever. The set includes the balls, the taget ball, and a set of game instructions, all neatly zipped into a case with a carrying handle. (We assume that, because our sellers took their ball set when they moved to a condo, each player provides his or her own balls.) We don't know how much play they'll get, but so far, we're pleased with this investment.
