A Must Read!,
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
"Bounce" contains something many business books (and I've read hundreds) do not. Wisdom. As you read "Bounce", you will realize the author has, indeed, been 'in the trenches', and has a great deal of wisdom to share with you. On more that one occassion, you will have the 'ah-ha' moment of recognition where this crazy world of entrepreneurship comes together.
Don't think for a moment, however, that this is a dry, B-school tome. The author is funny and charming and the examples he uses are both entertaining and interesting. He will motivate, inspire, help you develop a plan of action, and give you the confidence to move forward. "Bounce" will become a valuable resource, and even though the author titled the final chapter "Read This Book-Then Throw It Away", it will remain on your desk (as it is on mine) for future reference for a long, long, time.

Barry Moltz has done it again.,
By
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
The perspective that Mr. Moltz presents is one that most Type "A"s can't comprehend; coping with failure. This book was an exceptional read for me since I am currently going through a career transition. While changing careers is not as frightening as starting a business, there are numerous parallels; from determining what success means to you to knowing if it is time to accept that your current career is not right.
I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever heard "It is alright to make mistakes as long as you learn from them" and have not believed a word. Mistakes happen and learning to bounce back from them is the real challenge.

A very good psychology book for enterpreneurs,
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
This is a tailor made book for enterpreneurs. There are so many coverage on non personal aspects of failure including culture, cost of solvency, low correlation of outcomes of business startups from the same individual etc etc. Although I dont like his writing style and the eight bounces which he used to group his ideas, those teachings about fear and how to face it had compensated all its other shortcomings. Even if you are an enterpreneur and have read many books beforehand, you would still find it helpful. In short, recommended!
p.s. Below please find some of my favorite passages for your reference. No one actually remembers our failures more than we do. But fighting with failure demons does give us an important skill that will ultimately boost our ability to bounce. Forget the outcomes. Forget about bouncing back to any particular place. Just bounce. pg38 Customers might say no, and the fear of rejection is too great for many of us. This is an extension of the fear that we may not live up to others' expectations. pg93 JD Wetherspoon's founder, Tim Martin, named these (640) pubs for one of his teacher in New Zealand who suggested that Tim would never amount to another. pg94 Even when a dancer is on one toe, she is moving. It's called the candy cane effect. Like a dancer, in business, you are never really in balance. pg94 Most things that we fear actually never happen. We spend more time being afraid of being afraid then actually experiencing true fear. pg96 Eliminating fear is unrealistic and unproductive....Using our fears and teaching "butterflies in our stomach" to fly in formation will produce the best outcome.....for that set of circumstances at that point in time. pg97 Fear may paralyse us so we do not recognise the choices, but they are always there if we pause to look at the decision-making process. We always have the choice to keep going what we are doing or to stop and do something else....Choice is an antidote to fear. It doesnt get rid of it, but it allows us to live with it. pg99 My attorney always told me when things were going badly for me, "Remember, the worst they can do is eat you, and that is illegal". pg100 "Osu," the Japanese term in Karate, means to strive with patience. pg209

Fail to succeed!,
By
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
If you're an entrepreneur, you're going to fail. It's a ride on the back of a bucking bull, and you will fall off. Barry's book looks deep inside failure and how you can "bounce" off the bull's back to success. Great read.

Bounce review,

This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
Great book, and great confirmation that you only learn from failure and you emerge/bounce from it stronger, wiser, and more resilient. As a matter of fact as an educator, I do not wish my students success, but rather resilience so they can make their bounces easier and faster.
Again, great book!

Bounce Your Way to Business Confidence!,
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
You don't have to be crazy to believe in the Barry Moltz "bounce" theory.
You have to be crazy not to read Bounce. In his first book I read how I must be crazy to start my own business and I am. I have started seven. Four failures, one almost, and two successes, but nobody is counting but me. In Bounce he gives the answers to how to deal with the craziness of today's fast paced business environment full of highs, lows and unpredictable results. You have to bounce. In a world where business is 24/7, and the line between business and life are totally blurred, Barry's Bounce is an quick, fun, read with great insight and advice on surviving and succeeding in today's crazy business world.

Too much rambling. Flip flops on the topics.,
By
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
Definitely, one of the worst books I have read. There's no point to this book, except to self-pity for the author's failures.
It flip flops: at the beginning of the book the author says some failures have nothing good, not even a learning experience. Then in the latter chapters, it asks you to "learn" something from failures. The author should make up his mind. It also asks the reader to learn from management practices in countries with far less productivity record than the U.S. i.e. South Korea, Japan, and I think he even mentions an African country (??) The chapters are completely disorganized, there's no fluidity, and he goes back and forth on the "failure" topic. I tried to finish the book, but by the tenth chapter I gave up when he was comparing japanese and american managemente styles. The author takes a few (very tragic) examples of failure, and insists they apply to everybody. He also discredits true success stories such as Bill Gates' and Michael Dell's.

This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
This is a very good book for individuals thinking or planning to start their own business. The author does a good job of explaining that failure is a stepping stone in business experience. He also sprinkles the book with interesting stories of business owners that struggled for success (sometimes failing several times before succeeding). For business owners, it presents information that we are not alone in our struggle to achieve success and how we are able to face failure and "bounce" back. I felt better about my company after reading this book. I think that most readers will also feel more positive about difficult challenges that are in the future.

Failure is Not an Option,
By
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
Sooner or later, every one of us will fail or go through miserable downtimes in our life. When the bad times hit, what matters most is how we handle them.
That's why I liked this book by Barry Maltz. He's been there too - more than once. And, he's become an expert at bouncing back. What I like the best about it is how he talks about "creating your own measurement systems of success." To me, that's what is most important. We need to stop being other-focused and determine what we personally want to use as our key barometer. How much money we make or how many toys we have is not the answer; in fact. a focus on that makes us even more miserable. If you need some ideas re: how to deal with failure you're experiencing now, becoming more resilient or regaining the confidence you need to achieve your goals, check out this book.

Entrepreneur or doing something challenging? Put Bounce on your list...,
This review is from: Bounce!: Failure, Resiliency, and Confidence to Achieve Your Next Great Success (Hardcover)
I really appreciate how sincere Barry comes across compared to similar authors I've read with typically excessive branding and hokey step-by-steps. As an entrepreneur "in the trenches" and in my personal life as well, Bounce acts as a much needed pat on the back and mental roadmap.
