Great review of serious disorders that EM docs must not miss!,
By
This review is from: Bouncebacks! Emergency Department Cases: ED Returns (Paperback)
This book reads like a mystery novel. It presents actual cases with common presentations but unsuspected serious disorders for which patients "bounced back" to the ED because of initial misdiagnoses. Thorough discussions of the cases and appropriate work-ups follow. This is an excellent book that can help every EM and primary care physician avoid disasters in their patients.

Rob Crane, MD,

Actual cases from a real and very busy suburban ER. As you follow along the timed and dated notes as they came off the chart, you get a sense of what the ED physician was thinking. Meanwhile you know that something is amiss. I agree with the previous reviewer, these are lucid little mystery thrillers. Each takes maybe 10-20 minutes to read and then you end with a well documented best-practices commentary from Greg Henry. Perfect for medical students, primary care physicians and ED professionals. Frankly other non-medical members of my family picked up the book and enjoyed it. Well worthwhile.

excellent book,

Talk about a book to get your heart rate up. It makes you think very hard "what would I have done in the same situation?"
The legal and didactic commentaries are excellent. The chapter format is very logical and makes for great and fast reading. This is a must, I think, for any young ER doc just starting out.

Lots of great information of multiple types of condition that are easy to miss in a busy ED. Brings up the highlights of things to look out for (the red flags).

Great book - real cases with excellent commentary and advice. My documentation has improved since I read this book and I approach patient care in a more comprehensive way. A "must read" for ER doctors.

I work in an ED as a physician assistant.
I have recommended this book to everyone i work with. While there are obvious mistakes in these cases you will pick up right away, they are actual cases and serve as a reminder that if someone else missed the obvious then why couldn't you. So take a day to read this book, get humbled by it and remember the points it makes in order to keep you and your patients safe.

I'm not a physician, nor do I work in the ED, but I bought this book b/c it sounded interesting and it got great reviews. I really liked reading the cases and seeing if I could make the correct diagnosis. This book enables one to learn a lot in a fun manner.

I found this book after listening to EMRAP which also has a bounceback feature. In short, the book is very informative, entertaining, and immediately useful to anyone practicing acute care medicine.
