Amazon.com Review

The author of the bestselling Your Pregnancy Week by Week returns with possibly the first book of its kind, Your Pregnancy Recovery Guide, which focuses on the physical and emotional concerns during the postpartum period. Yes, most pregnancy books do include this type of information, but for women who'd like to avoid the scary sections on all that can go wrong during pregnancy but realize there are plenty of things they need to learn once the baby is born, this book is a practical choice. Dr. Curtis, a gynecologist and father of five children, covers afterpains and specific steps to take after either a cesarean or vaginal delivery; warning signs that indicate you or your baby should see the doctor; breast- and bottle-feeding; nutrition for the breast-feeding mother; and exercise. He also includes tips for keeping the relationship with your partner close during this stressful time; birth control (yes, you need it even if you're breastfeeding); and issues surrounding childcare and returning to work. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Library Journal

Curtis, an obstetrician/gynecologist, and coauthor Schuler have written this book to answer the questions most mothers have following a baby's birth. The authors have written three other books dealing with pregnancy: Your Pregnancy: Week by Week (Fisher, 1997), Your Pregnancy: Questions and Answers (Fisher, 1997), and Your Pregnancy After 30 (Fisher, 1996). This chatty, informal addition to the stack deals primarily with what a mother should expect about her body, nutrition and exercise, adjusting to life with a baby, and even planning for the next pregnancy. It includes some information about what to expect from a baby in terms of eating and sleeping, and some information on child safety. A glossary is included. This is a useful addition to Antonia van der Meer's Great Beginnings: An Illustrated Guide to You and Your Baby's First Year (Dell, 1994). Recommended for patient education and consumer health collections.AMary J. Jarvis, Pampa, TX

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother, August 21, 2002
This review is from: Bouncing Back After Your Pregnancy: What You Need to Know about Recovering From Labor and Delivery and Caring For Your New Family (Paperback)
This book attempts to be an all in one source for your post-partum recovery. While it does cover everything from breastfeeding problems to losing weight to burping your baby, it's not done well. It tries to cover too much information in too short of a book, the result is a lot of subjects, but not a lot of subastance. It's probably better to get a separate book on breastfeeding (Dr. Sear's Breastfeeding book and the Breastfeeding Answer Book by La Leche League are excellent), a separate book on baby care, etc... I even found the post-partum section in "What to Expect the First Year" to be more informative and helpful than in "Bouncing Back After Your Pregnancy". Incidentally, "What to Expect the First Year" is another excellent source for baby care issues, it's far more in-depth than this particular book. I'm so glad I checked this out at the library rather than buying it, the cover of this book has a lot of appeal, it's just too bad the content doesn't match.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fundamental information, but useful, January 27, 2001
By A Customer
This book concisely covers the basics of recovering from childbirth. Chapters include information on everything from taking care of yourself following the birth of your child to nutrition and exercise. This was one of several I kept on hand to reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good resource Guide, January 26, 2006
This review is from: Bouncing Back After Your Pregnancy: What You Need to Know about Recovering From Labor and Delivery and Caring For Your New Family (Paperback)
I haven't had my baby yet but I've got lots of time on my hands to read so I picked up this book - and I found it to be very encouraging and informative. I recommend reading it while you are pregnant so you know what to expect. As to the other reviews, quite frankly I don't "get" why people keep recommending 'What To Expect When You're Expecting". I found it to be very poorly written - plus a recent article in the New York Times called it outdated, incorrect and said that most doctors don't recommend it or approve of it. At least Bouncing Back speaks to pregnant women as if we have a brain - which is more than I can say for "What To Expect!" !
Buy Bouncing Back - it's not new, but you'll like it!
