Book Description

When it comes to killing vampires, werewolf Cade Thain is the best slayer in the Northwest. So when a witch hires him to take out a pureblood vamp, the assassin thinks it will be just business as usual. One less vicious vamp on the more undead parasite gone from the earth. Then he meets her.

Allison Gray isn't the prey that Cade expects. Beautiful, innocent, she stirs a dark desire within him. Allison hasn't transformed fully into a vampire, not yet, and it's Cade's job to make sure that she never does. Allison thinks that he's at her side to keep her safe, but Cade is supposed to pick the right moment--and kill her.

Killing Allison is soon the last thing that Cade plans. As she begins the transformation that will turn her into a vampire, her bloodlust and their desire merge in an explosion of need that neither can control. But Allison's enemies are closing in, and the coming battle will take Cade and Allison beyond life, beyond love...and into a deadly darkness that waits to claim them both.

Warning: This novella is a sexy paranormal romance. As such, it contains blood, sex, vampires, and a hot alpha werewolf. Violence and adult language? Yes, those are included, too. (Word Count: 21,000)

The Skinny: Allison Gray is a not-quite-yet-vampire on the run from an unseen predator. Her only hope is to trust her fate to Cade Thaine, a werewolf who has an unfortunate case of hatred for all things vampire. To make matters worse, Cade was actually hired to kill Allison, not protect her. Lucky for Allison, Cade is more than a little taken by her physical form and he just can't seem to help himself from coming to her aid - again and again - when attempts are made on her life. Some hired "gun" he's turning out to be.

The Good: Allison is believably ignorant about the nature of vampires and pure bloods in general. This works well in establishing a basis for stumbling into the path of her would-be assassin. I'm trying really hard to keep the spoilers at a minimum, so let's just leave it at that. I also really liked the chemistry between Cade and Allison - a lot. Like really a lot. Cade does a pretty good job of lying to himself about his motives for saving Allison and as a wonderfully tortured hero, the moment he decides to just go for what he wants is incredibly fulfilling (and hot). Like whoa.

The Bad: I think the misunderstanding in the beginning drags out a little longer than necessary, which made it a little hard to follow at first. Also, there was such great, simplistic building of Cade and Allison's backgrounds, and yet I felt our glimpse into their romance was a little too shallow for my taste. That's sometimes hard to do with short stories, so I'm keeping that in consideration with this review. Lastly, there were a few typos in the book, though none were so glaring they ruined the story for me.

The Wrap-Up: I love fairy tales!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my favorite of the series... July 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bound in Darkness was a bit of a doozy for me at first. I began it, read about ten percent into it and read several novels before I picked it up and tried to read it again. Once I did, I wasn't so much disappointed as I was annoyed half the time.

The story is simple so I won't rehash it but I didn't like parts of the story were told from the witch's point of view. Who cared what she was thinking? I didn't understand the instant attraction between the hero and the heroine as Allison seemed to be a bit blah. There was nothing about her to make her stand out. She might as well have had a sign that read "single white vampire female" as nothing made her the slightest bit of a stand-out from all the dozen other damsel in distress with a paranormal twist novels I have ever read.

Other than that, the hero wasn't sexy and wasn't very likeable, the sex scenes were lackluster and the whole novella dragged toward the end,

Even with that said, I did get an hour's worth of entertainment out of it so it was worth the 99 cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Homerun! May 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't need to rewrite the cover info like some of the other reviews but just take the word of almost everyone that have read this series of short stories that they are truly entertaining, action filled and that all important bit of romance and passion. Get the whole series (I think there are 4 now) and use them when you have an afternoon to yourself or something you need to fill 3-5 hours, great stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!! March 27, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I devoured this novella! There is nothing like an opposite attracts read. Cade is a werewolf who was tortured by vampires when he was young. Now that is he older he is an assassin sent to kill a pure blood vampire by a witch named Elsa. Allison is a pure blood vampire but has no idea yet. She has not began her change. She knows she is being stalked and is sent to Cade for protection by a witch named Elsa. Its then that fireworks spark!

Cade sees Allison's vulnerability and realizes she is not yet a vampire. He just can not bring himself to kill her. The heat between these two start up right away. Both are tortured souls and seem to find something in one another that they simply can't live without. But by being together they have made one powerful witch pretty angry!

This book is just HOT! I loved it and for .99 cents its a total bargain. You get everything you would expect from a full length novel. If you love steamy scenes and that forbidden love then you are in for a treat. Its that perfect read when you need to spice up your reading world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great one! September 13, 2011

A great Cynthia Eden novella! It's short but I agree with a previous review, you get a good story that leaves you satisfied. I love alpha male Cade and his shift from wanting to kill Allison to wanting to protect her. The twist with the witch was good and why she wants Allison to be killed and the whole story plays out very well.

While I haven` t bought a lot of Romance novels before, I happen to like Vampire/Werewolf stories. The descriptions were good, the language bearable and the story was one I could relate to. I only wish the story was a bit longer.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmm, this one was so-so November 19, 2013

Okay story, Cade (the assassin werewolf) is hired by a witch to kill Allison (a pureblood vampire). Cade hates all vampires, due to the fact that vamps killed his pack and tortured him when he was a teenager. Of course, once he meets Allison his plans change, as he falls into insta-lust.

My issue with this story is that too much time was spent on Cade's changing feelings towards Allison and not that much time on the whole mystery of why he was hired. There was no reason given as to why Allison would kill the witch, only that the witch saw the vision in the mirror (what is this, Snow White?). And why did Allison leave the morning after they did the horizontal tango?

This is only my second Cynthia Eden story, but I'm liking her work so far.
