No sweetness OR love, but plenty of revolting savagery,
By My main complaint is that there's little passion and still little romance although Rogers describes scenes of rape and sexual torture in loving detail. Although I'm not anti-lesbian, I prefer to see the heroine having sex with the hero rather than her female friends. This book left me feeling like I needed a bath and the violence is the stuff of nightmares. Avoid, or buy used!

Precious little romance in this novel,

Fans of Steve and Ginny hoping for equal passion with their now-grown daughter Laura will be disappointed. As a heroine, she's spoiled and brainless and I frankly didn't like her. She has no character traits with which to sympathize and neither does the hero.My main complaint is that there's little passion and still little romance although Rogers describes scenes of rape and sexual torture in loving detail. Although I'm not anti-lesbian, I prefer to see the heroine having sex with the hero rather than her female friends. This book left me feeling like I needed a bath and the violence is the stuff of nightmares. Avoid, or buy used!

Just Kill Them Off and Be Done With It!,
By Alice Campbell (Sunbury, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bound by Desire (Paperback)
It's not very often I come across writing that goes against almost every grain in my body, but this is it. I found Laura's "super-strong-I-am-woman-hear-me-roar" attitude belonged the weakest female I have come across in a book. Take away her money and let her survive in the real world and this character wouldn't have a clue. I spent the first half of the book suspecting she was a lesbian just waiting to come out of the closet, and the second half convinced of it! Her love interest--was completely unbelievable--no substance. Why was he so angry? Because his father treated his mother badly? Then what does he do--go take over his father's title in England and live with his father's widow, of course, actually taking advice from her as if she were some kind of mother-figure. Laura's brother Franco, who was described as a strong, threatening sort of fellow, was as whimpy as they come, trailing throughout the book after a simpering little woman (Helena) that will not give up her title or her husband, like a damn dog sniffing after a poodle in heat. All through the book, carrying on an affair and always batting her little eyes at Laura to 'please help me cover up my affair with your brother,' Helena had absolutely no backbone and toward the end, when she is 'forced to intimacy' with Laura--I'm supposed to believe it's not what she wanted all along?? PLease! It was at this point I started cheering for the male kidnappers--disturbed though they were--they were honest about it! My greatest disappointment was that these 'women (and I use this term very loosely)' didn't die during their sojourn together!

Disgusting,
This review is from: Bound by Desire (Hardcover)
Do NOT waste your time on this piece of garbage. Laura was so oblivious and thought she was so smart. Her conceitedness got on my nerves and I could not bring myself to like her. Trent was even worse. He called her really dirty names, was incredibly disrespectful, had almost no concern for anybody but himself, and was totally unlikeable. I didn't care what happened to him much, and skimmed through a lot of pages.I've also come to realize that Rosemary Rogers is an extremely boring writer. She just goes on and on about nothing of any particular importance or interest. She can't write romance for anything. There's never an ounce of tenderness or compassion in her books, especially not in this one. What in the world even happened at that weird orgy thing? She was having sex with her girl friend? It was so messed up, and totally not "sizzling" like it says on the front cover. There were parts of this story where I just wanted to grab Laura and shake her, and other times where I wanted to smack the crap out of Trent. Rosemary Rogers just cannot put any sensual passion or love into her books.

Decadent Rogers does it again (in my humble opinion),
This review is from: Bound By Desire (Hardcover)
Okay, so I must be the odd reader out here, but I overall liked this book! It took me on the wild, decadent romp that I always anticipate with Rogers, and as always, I felt she captured the seedy side of the Edwardian pre-jet set and the dissipation that set in with the bored and super-rich of the day. Having recently read several exposes' on the time period - including the wild respites of the royals and the titled, I felt Rogers captured the essence. I could also sympathize with the main character, Laura, who chaffs under the hypocrisies of Social pressures of the times, particularly the double standards applied to females. That said - I did wonder about the motives of her "loving" parents, Ginny and Steve, to dump their children off in Europe to learn all the jaded realities of such a life, whilst they globe-trotted and stayed pretty much wrapped up in their own selfish desires. I mean - good heavens! After all Ginny had experienced, she didn't anticipate that her precious, and at first innocent daughter, might end up compromised endlessly and in the end, viciously assaulted, exploited, etc.? The brother could have been a little less caught up with his own troubles, and should have protected her a bit more stringently, as the time period would have called for. Surely, he should have even called Trent out at some point for the liberties taken with his far younger and more innocent sister? Also - I found Trent's character a little shallow, less well-drawn, and certainly pretty much a pig the way he kept carrying on with the blonde slut and flaunting her in front of Laura. All the while calling little Laura a slut and treating her like one as well. I mean - did he maybe think he might try just a little gentle wooing before deciding that Laura was a guilty little slut who deserved his contemptible behavior? I mean, he was - after all, like 12 or so years older than her? Maybe a mature male (even if an alpha sort), might have slung her over his shoulder and toted her out of the Parisian, hashish den orgy instead of taking her virginity in front of the crowd? As the jaded sort he was portrayed to be, he surely should have realized she hadn't a clue of what was actually happening to her. Of course, I realize, that Rogers' aim with the story was to show that headstrong, wild Laura needed to discover, explore, and find all these things out for herself, right? Otherwise, she might end up like Ginny, with a man who exploits, abuses, mistrusts, mistreats and controls her for the rest of her life. Oh wait! But that kind of what happens in the end! But - lessons learned, reader is satisfied with a good, romping (and I do mean romping!). I was entertained and got exactly what I expected from RR! If you like the escapism and racy themes of Rosemary Rogers, you will probably like this book. If you are looking for idealistic romance, gentle heroes, etc. stay away, you'll hate it.

Laura and Trent,
By
This review is from: Bound by Desire (Hardcover)
Well, i've always had mixed feelings about Ms. Rogers books. Mainly the scenes of brutality in them. But this book was lacking those scenes and quite frankly, while a nice change that the heroine wasnt gettting slapped around repeatdly of raped, i rather missed them.Trent and Laura are engaged early in life. But theres hardly any history between them other then that. I felt the book was a bit rushed and just lacking in ways. Laura was annoying at times, and Trent was a complete mystery for most of the book. Call me crazy, but i like a little of the male point of view, to at least know something. Its like we never do know what brought them together, even at the end.

Paperback porn,
By Lovereader "Lovereader" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bound by Desire (Hardcover)
This book is so full of sex crimes, lesbians, bondage and totally moronic women that I wonder if it wasn't written by a man using a pen name. This is not romance and there is no love. Avoid and spend five bucks at Taco Bell instead, it's a better buy

Big disappointment,

This book had almost no plot, and was totally unbelieveable. The "kidnapping" was so far-out as to be ludicrous. The Steve and Ginny books had characters you could believe in, but here the characters were just thrown together like puppets. Why did Trent Challenger (what a stupid name) do what he did? Why did Laura Morgan do what she did? It was too much to be believed. Hope the latest book is better.

Laura and Helena are Both Babes!,
By Lily Bart "lilybits" (The House of Mirth) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bound by Desire (Hardcover)
So many people get hung up on the negative with this rip roaring sexy novel that takes you from London to Paris to sensual Gibraltar. Okay, Laura Morgan is impetuous and headstrong, and often acts before she thinks. But hey, did you ever hear of the Hilton Sisters? Laura is like that, and sure she tests her own body and her sensuality with every kind of sex you can think of, even trying out sex with women now and then. But deep down she's a real straight shooter -- literally in that she's a western cowgirl at heart. And yes, Trent Challenger loses his temper sometimes and calls her names. But when it really counts, he's there to rescue her, and boy do those nasty English dukes pay for messing around with bold Laura and shy Helena! You can't say that the sexual predators go unpunished, and Rosemary Rogers is always very honest about how cruel and evil they are. Frankly, this book is sexy in every way you can think of, not just in ways that involve violence and brutality. Check out the Gibraltar scenes, and you notice how carefully Rosemary Rogers keeps things in balance. Laura gets a massage from a very sweet and attentive Moroccan maid while Helena gets disciplined by her useless English lord husband. But in the end both girls are rescued and find happy endings with very virile American husbands who are rich, good looking and super passionate. So just relax and dig the pleasures of the hot-blooded and super rich.

A waste of time!,

This review is from: Bound by Desire (Paperback)
To me, this book was boring. I have not read Ginny's and Steve's story, and honestly I don't want to, after reading this book. Laura is such a brat she got on my nerves. And I didn't feel sorry for her when she got kidnapped. Don't get me wrong know. I didn't want anything bad to happen to her, but I didn't like her. Like I said she really, really, got on my nerves!! And I don't know HOW in GOD'S world they fell in love. Trent was not the kind of guy you fall in love with. He was disrespectfull to her and was always calling her a "PUTA" (whore). The ONLY reason I finished reading the book, (or should I say skimmed the book?) was because a friend let me borrow it and I thought she might ask me questions. So if you can, skip this book. It's SUCKS!!!!
