About the Author

Sally Clements writes romance. Her first book, Catch Me A Catch, came out in 2010 and was a finalist in the RNA Joan Hessayon Award for new fiction. It features a chocolatier reluctantly forced to turn matchmaker for a matchmaking festival in her small Irish town, and a transatlantic sailor who's not looking for love! In 2011, she published Bound to Love, a romantic suspense, Marrying Cade, the story of a woman who finally gets the chance to seduce her childhood crush when he returns to Tuscan island, Isola dei Fiori (and then wonders if that's a good idea after all), and in early 2012 will publish The Morning After, a spicy romance about an Irish bad-boy movie star who comes to the aid of his best friend when she needs him, and  Love on the Vine, a sweet romance about a frenchman transplanted to a vineyard in California soil, and the woman he first meets when he finds her swimming in his lake (naked!).

You take a beautiful jewelry designer and a gorgeous owner of a security company, mix them together with kidnapping, betrayal, and a planned jewel heist and what do you get? Bound to Love, by Sally Clements.

Tempest MacKenzie, jewelry designer, witnesses a stranger being forced into a van and she leaps into action - literally. Her attempts to foil the kidnapping only result in her being taken as well. Jake Forrester is not so impulsive and can't believe this woman he doesn't know was so willing to help him. They find out there is a plan to steal jewelry from the British Museum, where he put in the security system, and Jake and Tempest set out to stop it.

This book was a fun read. There was the spark of romance between people of two opposite temperaments who have to learn to see the other's point of view. Tempest and Jake both have issues from the past they have to tangle with in order to open up to each other and have a healthy relationship. Sally Clements does a good job of fleshing out the characters so they read as real people with whom you can relate.

There was no mystery here, you find out who the bad guy is early on in the book. The interesting part is learning how they go about stopping him. I'm not sure everything was plausible from a real life setting, but the book was enjoyable.

Oh la-la. What a steamy, dreamy, thrill ride. A romance, rated on the 'softer' side (meaning the details of the encounters between the main characters are juicy but not overly detailed ie erotica. Yes, I need to clarify--not everyone reads according to how many roses or hot peppers or whatever ratings the publisher uses). Well, it sure got my juices flowing. It. Was. Hot.
I enjoyed it. It was fun. It was hot. It made me want to build a fire with my husband or jet of to Paris. There was a turn or two that wasn't over the top obvious to me, which earns the book bonus points. I hate knowing every twist and turn from page one. I did find the beginning (which is supposed to be the big draw you in part) a little too cheesy. Jake & Tempest feel a connection that is so overpowering. I would have liked a little more conflict in the beginning working towards the intensity as opposed to instant attraction followed by questioning.
Overall, it was very well written story. Kudos Ms. Clements, very nice work!

I am really unsure about where I wanted to rate this- so I am taking midway between okay and good- Maybe 3.5 stars. Bound to Love had some great elements but there is definitely a cheesy factor that makes me feel conflicted. The writing was okay but the plot development seemed weak towards the middle and the characters were a bit melodramatic.

Story in a nutshell: Tempest is impetuous to some but she apparently has great instincts and just seems to "know" things. When she sees Jake getting kidnapped she tries to help...causing both of them to get kidnapped. Together they must stop a greedy criminal from getting away with a huge art heist.

Tempest and Jake had some great chemistry for most of the book. They were likable, and I liked that they were not perfect. However, I felt that some of the conflicts that made their relationship "tumultuous" we're forced... Like running the background check or not believing in her intuition... inserted just so that there was additional conflict not necessarily because it really added to the relationship dynamics. We were supposed to believe Tempest's feelings were up in the air about Jake...and of course we have Jake, the reluctant suitor who is causious, having been hurt before...but the delivery felt forced, making it feel so-so and melodramatic.

Some of the weaker plot elements: Our antagonist is completely revealed way too early and most of the action happens in the beginning of the book creating this un-suspensful lull at a midway point. The antagonist really was not believable as a criminal mastermind or revenge seeker and I did not feel this energy to find and "defeat" him before it's too late.

This book started out with a lot of action, mystery, and the stereotypical beautiful people instant over-the-top romance. But then the action slowed, and as other reviews have noted, the 'culprit' was disclosed early on. So there was no mystery left, and very little suspense. But it still was written well enough that I wanted to keep on reading to the end, to the anticipated outcome. The only disappointment was that it seems the author ran out of descriptive prose towards the end, and the final action scenes were briefly described and lacking the details we read in the beginning.

However, I did enjoy reading this book, and would read more from this author

I liked the main characters, but they were so total opposites their relationship didn't make sense. They would have driven each other crazy.

The plot should have been interesting, because it included betrayal, danger, theft in the British museum, and kidnapping, but it fell short. The tension from the plot was almost non-existent compared with the sexual tension. Tempest and Jake feel such physical magnetism they go to bed together not long after they bump into each other. From then on, the graphic sex scenes take up half the book and become quite repetitive. In fact, their whole relationship is based on nothing but the physical. They eventually say they love each other, but it was all lust.

There were also many errors in the book. It switched between points of view without notation, had strange spacing, and contained punctuation errors. There were also descrepencies in details, and I had many questions the author never answered or explained. In addition, it was slathered with cursing, even using the name of God.

In my opinion, the author shows promise, if she would only clean up her books editorially and morally. The fact she has talent almost made this one more disappointing, because it was so much less than it could be.
