I have now listened to four of the titles by the authors of Boundaries. This title is no disappointment. I highly recommend it for anyone who has children, who works with children or who istrying to understand what went wrong with their own childhood. Understanding and implimenting boundaries is essential for educating children to become responsible.

My friend had me order this and send it to her daughter who has
two children. My friend was very impressed with the other boundaries
book and had learned about this one and said it is very good, and
she knew she wanted her daughter to have a copy since her
daughter and husband are raising two of her grandchildren.

As a parent searching for direction and consistency in discipline, I found this book incredibly helpful. It is practical, easy to read, contains great examples and applications, and backs everything up with real life and scripture. I am recommending this book to all the parents I know--I wish I had read it before I had kids.

Excellent reading. I highly recommend it for new parents to start off on the right foot. It teaches that healthy and balanced physical, emotional, and mental boundaries with children are necessary for development of social skills, coping in daily life, etc. The authors are Phd's and experts in the field.

Boundaries with Kids by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend is a veritable treasure trove of information in the journey of successfully raising children. Throughout the book, they teach their readers how to create boundaries with children that will help them grow into mature, individuated adults. While Cloud and Townsend set forth a number of ideas and raise many points, their book can be distilled into five primary points, which I'm going to call "Big Ideas."

The first big idea is the necessity of boundaries. This is foundational as it creates the framework for the other concepts and big ideas to follow. Second is the cultivation of responsibility. The major goal of boundaries is to train one's child for the responsibilities of adulthood. The third idea is that that of respect. This gives the child an awareness of others and teaches the character traits of selflessness and love. Fourth is the idea of internalization. Rules and guidelines can exist external to the child when they come from the parent, but if the child does not internalize these values then he will not be able to function as a healthy adult. The fifth and last topic discusses the idea of parental role modeling. Children, as visual learners, will be able to follow and internalize boundaries only if they see their parents doing so as well.

Cloud and Townsend pioneered the idea of creating boundaries in their seminal book simply entitled Boundaries and have modified it accordingly to be specific to different types of relationships. Their years of experience as professional counselors and parents help secure their foundation of healthy parenting. Simple and non-revolutionary, their style is far from intuitive--boundaries have to be learned--but makes perfect sense. Boundaries With Kids is good enough that I first encountered it in a college-level class on child counseling as mandatory reading. As a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, I highly recommend it as a necessity for parents or any couple who will be parents.

We read this book and watched the DVD's in my parenting class and the book could have stood on it's own. I liked that it included ways to implement boundaries, stories, and the reason behind the thinking. Very well organized and well thought out. Would recommend to all parents!!

This book is very informative and helpful! I see where I went wrong on a few occasions as well as feel pretty good about other situations. It really explains why you should set the boundaries and helps you see the bigger picture in influencing your children down the road.

I am actually teaching this book in a Sunday School Class at my church. It is absolutely great. My children are grown and my husband and I have both commented about how much we would have liked to had this book when they were children. Buy it. You won't be sorry.
