This book always goes in my pack. It has a listing of most lakes in the BWCAW and Quetico that gives you size of the lake, species of fish in the lake, and relative amount of fishing pressure, among other things. It also has a chapter for each major species of fish. Also valuable is the step-by-step procedure for cleaning fish.

A DOWN TO Earth and useful book on the BWCA.I take north with me every time I go canoeing.i totally recommend this book to any who canoes and camps in the BWCA and for that matter anywhere else.Furtman has the local expertise and knowledge to make your trip safer,better,and more enjoyable.The FURTMAN name is well known and respected in the northern Minnesota region.

Very good, helpful information. Wish more areas were covered - and more areas identified where not to waste time fishing.

I am not new to fishing, but new to fishing in the BWCA. This book gives a realistic approach to fishing these waters from the canoe. Valuable information here...

I found this book very informative and helpful, the author is definitely familiar with the boundary waters. I being a novice fresh water fisherman would liked to have seen pictures of the fishing tackle he was describing to catch certain fish.

Pretty much what I was looking for. Well researched. My only negative critique is that while the author explains what techniques work for him, he doesn't seem to explore what other fishermen in the area might be doing. So, maybe he left out a few things that might work.

If you read and follow this book you can amass years of fishing experience in the BWCA. I've fished the area for over 20 years and still use it as a reference book.

Great book, easy to read, and to the point. We will see if it helps when I get to do some fishing in the bwcaw. I do think you should know a little about the lakes up there before you go and this book dose tell you alot about them, how to fish them and what to use, for the different fish that you will find in the lakes.

This book is an excellent general reference for fishing in the BWCA, covers catching, cleaning and cooking. It also provides much-appreciated reminders on disposing of the carcass appropriately and proper camping etiquette. The charts review all the lakes of the BWCA and what you'll be fishing for.

Please don't forget to read the epilogue. It is a beautifully-written and touching short story that captures the essence of what the BWCA means to so many people.

A Boundary Waters Fishing Guide was the only book I chose to portage in the Boundary Waters of northern Minnesota and it guided me to the best lakes and streams and told me what fish types are best in the locations I was traversing and how to catch them. While I am a fishing novice, this book provides location-specific information even pros will appreciate. Only available used I believe.
