The Discovery 3300--which runs on two 9-volt batteries--is designed for easy handling, with a lightweight, ergonomic build that's comfortable for hours on end. The detector boasts four operating modes controlled by an intuitive touchpad. Motion All-Metal mode offers a single tone that detects all types of metal. Progressive Discrimination mode, by contrast, uses a single tone to automatically eliminate iron and other unwanted metals. The Notch mode adds further versatility to the detecting process, with the ability to manually eliminate, or “notch out,” a select range of items. And if you’re looking for deep targets, you can activate the Pinpoint mode, which searches for targets while the detector is completely still.
Bounty Hunter equips all its metal detectors with a preset ground balance that neutralizes the response to mineral content in the ground. As a result, the Discovery 3300 can distinguish between iron in the ground and valuable metals. The detector further distinguishes good finds from bad with a one-touch Zap button, which immediately eliminates unwanted metals, and a sensitivity control that reduces electromagnetic interference. It’s in the accuracy department that the Discovery 3300 really shines, however. The detector includes a digital 11-segment probable target ID that identifies a wide range of targets, along with a four-tone audio feedback. The unit also offers a digital probable coin depth indicator that determines how deep a target is buried, making it easier to dig up.
In addition, the Discovery 3300 searches deeper than many other detectors thanks to the 8-inch open coil design, which searches to 8 inches for coin-size objects and 3 feet for larger objects. The coil and stem are even waterproof, so you can submerge them when searching for treasure in damp grass or shallow water.
To ensure privacy, the detector comes equipped with a ¼-inch headphone jack compatible with most headphones. Other features include an easy-to-read LCD display, a low battery indicator, an adjustable-height design, a padded armrest, and a detector stand. The Discovery 3300 weighs 2.6 pounds and carries a five-year limited warranty.

Money well spent, and FOUND!,
By Jonathan (Columbus, IN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 Metal Detector (Lawn & Patio)
I love my 3300! It has very good depth, great adjustability, very accurate, lots-o-features, light weight/well designed, etc. If it says somthing is there, bank on it! I have found a ton of coins, some rings, jewelery, and tools with this detector, and look forward to using it every time. Battery life for the two 9 volts is pretty good, just the same I bought 9volt rechargables to save some $$$.
I bought mine on a super sale for less than half of the current price, so even with its great results, you might look at other detectors in its current price range just to see how they compare. Good luck, and happy detecting!

"Treasure Hunting" w/ My Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 Metal Detector,

I have only been "treasure hunting" four times since I received my Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 Metal Detector. I've seen other people using metal detectors at the beach and parks and, sinceI love to walk on the beach, I thought it might be fun. I am 63 with arthritis and was somewhat concerned about carrying it. However, I am pleased to say that this metal detector is very light and easy to hold. I am still learning how to set the detecting features; so it's a little hard to be specific. The electronics are easy to read and seem to be accurate. When the sound goes off showing, for instance, a quarter; I have found a quarter. I have not had the opportunity, or taken the time, to use all the features, such as pinpointing but feel confident that this metal detector will perform as expected.
