The "Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II" (QDII) is a very good, feature rich, mid-priced metal detector. After doing a lot of research for a "real" metal detector as a gift for my teenage son, I found the features for the price made the QDII the clear choice.

The QDII has features that are generally only found on higher priced units:

* The LCD screen can indicate what type of metal has been found

* Indicates approximate depth

* The Notch Modes work well for filtering out most trash items

We have really enjoyed using this sensitive and accurate metal detector!

The included "bonus" items are a Carrying Bag (a little smallish, but functional) and a "Bounty Hunter Pinpoint Pinpointer" (a small metal detector used to help locate items in the ground). Both are good quality and useful to have with the QDII.

Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Bounty Hunter QDII, April 19, 2010

This review is from: Bounty Hunter QD2GWP Quick Draw II Metal Detector with Pin Pointer and Carry Bag (Lawn & Patio)
The Quickdraw II is a great all-around metal detector. I mostly use it in the "All metal" mode but have also used it to notch out unwanted metals where it performs as advertised. I've dug up relics and coins, and the coin ID has been accurate 99 percent of the time. You get used to the different sounds and after a while can guess what metal you're digging (tab, rusted can, etc). I don't believe the depth indicator works accurately on mine so I use it as a guide moreso than gospel. Many detector ads tout depth finding ability but how deep do you really need to go? Most of the stuff you'll find is not down that deep (2-8 inches or so - course your milege may vary). Took it to the beach and was satisfied. In the dry sand, it performed very well (get a good heavy-duty sand scooper for the beach). However, when used too close to the water or in wet sand, the detector gives off numerous false readings as the sodium in the water drives it crazy. To adjust, I turned the sensitivity almost all the way down and was able to use the detector - but doing so sacrifices capability to detect some objects and probably gives up depth. The computer module is not water proof so you probably don't want to get too close anyway. I purchased the 10-inch coil for the beach and was pleased as it allows coverage of more area in one swipe and penetrates a little deeper. Difficulty with the 10-inch is pin-pointing the location of the object when digging in the earth but not an issue at the beach (much easier to scoop sand than earth). The 8-inch coil that comes with the unit is much better suited for "zeroing in" on your find. Overall, I'm very pleased with the unit and highly recomment it for general purpose metal detecting. If detecting at the beach was my main focus, then I would look for a different detector.

I did quite a lot of research before buying on all kinds and all prices of metal detectors. I found that for the price, the Quick Draw 2 had the options we wanted. I have been most pleased with this machine... if it tells me there is a coin..there is a coin. It has not been wrong yet. Batteries wear well. I haven't had to change them in over a month and we use it a lot on the week ends, and some through the week. I would definitely recommend it. We have found numerous coins with it, and it has been great for us!

shipped on time important to me. Use product to spend time with daughter and she loves it easy to use, and getting even easier. have not really found to much yet but every time we go out we find a little more. important to me not to discourage her kids need to find those coins or what ever so not to get bored. product is lite and durable no toy here. easy to understand directions even for beginner. nice displays and audio alerts you to buried targets. depeth of target a little off even if you place coil flat on ground not a big deal. I think this product is well worth the money for what you get.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price, July 14, 2010

This review is from: Bounty Hunter QD2GWP Quick Draw II Metal Detector with Pin Pointer and Carry Bag (Lawn & Patio)
As soon as I received my Bounty Hunter QD2GWP Quick Draw II metal detector I took it in my backyard just to test it, I got hits on some obvious junk metal like nails, bottle caps, within 5 minutes I got a coin tone & dug up a brass medallion from 1948 about 5 to 6 inches down, I was very impressed, I didn't really expect to find anything back there. The only disappointment is the gold has the same sound as junk metal, I really wanted a detector that distinctly identified gold. I haven't been able to play with the setting much so I'll see if I can phase out the junk metal so it only detects the gold (it does say in the instructions you can) overall a good detector for the money.

This being my very first metal detector and being new to the field I was not disappointed. The product is very easy to use and understand.. I like it and my first find was a quarter just as it indicated on the display screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product for the money, April 9, 2009
This review is from: Bounty Hunter QD2GWP Quick Draw II Metal Detector with Pin Pointer and Carry Bag (Lawn & Patio)
The QDII medal detector is a very good product for the money. I even received the free pin pointer as a free gift. When it arrived the pin pointer didn't work and the company sent me a brand new one. It is always a pleasure to buy through Amazon.com.

Meanwhile I will continue to get exercise and enjoy being at the beach with a purpose.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Metal Detector, August 9, 2010
This review is from: Bounty Hunter QD2GWP Quick Draw II Metal Detector with Pin Pointer and Carry Bag (Lawn & Patio)
Was in a rush to get one for a 10yr olds Birthday so purchased used for nearly what this kit is going for on Amazon. The current price on Amazon is definitely a great deal for all you get.

The pinpointer is an essential time saver to root through your spoils when searching for the bling.

The bag is nice quality and has padding.

Seems like a quality made unit. I compared to others and this fit the bill. The Ace 250 in my opinion has the pinpointer built in. But I'd rather use the separate one in this kit since your down on your knees at some point anyway.

I basically set it to find all metals and it does just that - so be careful what you ask for...have found coins, nails, bottle caps, property stakes, an earing, some keys, in hard pack summer grass field to gravel driveway to sandy beach.

I have never used a metal detector before and figured this one was in my price range. I took it camping with me in Big Bear, Ca. Never having used one before I didn't know what to expect. Within an hour I found an aluminum can, 2 beer bottle caps, a couple of nails, and $.29!!!! LOL...It was great! I do need to learn how to mess with the settings but it does work really well. I would recomend using headsets when you are detecting your treasure.
