Easy to use yet versatile, the Quicksilver metal detector is ideal for beginning treasure hunters who want to detect basic targets without having to constantly fine tune the equipment.
The Quicksilver--which runs on two 9-volt batteries--is designed for easy handling, with a lightweight, ergonomic build that's comfortable for hours on end. The detector boasts three operating modes controlled by an intuitive touchpad. Motion All-Metal mode offers a single tone that detects all types of metal. Progressive Discrimination mode, by contrast, uses a single tone to automatically eliminate iron and other unwanted metals. The Notch mode adds further versatility to the detecting process, with the ability to manually eliminate, or “notch out,” a select range of items.
Bounty Hunter equips all its metal detectors with a preset ground balance that neutralizes the response to mineral content in the ground. As a result, the Quicksilver can distinguish between iron in the ground and valuable metals. The detector owes its accuracy to such features as an LCD display with a four-segment digital target ID, which identifies buried targets with ease, and a three-tone audio feedback function. The Quicksilver even searches deeper than many other detectors thanks to the 8-inch open coil design, which searches to 8 inches for coin-size objects and 3 feet for larger objects (the search depth corresponds with a One-Touch Depth Select Control). Plus, the coil and stem are waterproof, so you can submerge them when searching for treasure in damp grass or shallow water.
To ensure privacy, the Quicksilver comes equipped with a ¼-inch headphone jack compatible with most headphones. Other features include an easy-to-read LCD display, a low battery indicator, an adjustable-height design, a padded armrest, and a detector stand. The Quicksilver weighs 2.8 pounds and carries a five-year limited warranty.

This metal detector is easy to use and I really like it's digital display that ACCURATELY identifies the type of metal found. I got it as a gift for my dad, but couldn't help trying it out before giving it to him. As a test, it easily found coins and keys tossed randomly thru the yard. I've also found coins and nails that were lost years before. I also successfully used it to find an odd-shaped aluminum spacer that dropped from my motorcycle somewhere in the gravel driveway. I'm giving this one to my dad, but will buy another for myself. The motorcycle parts incident convinced me this detector is well worth the $90. I would suggest buying a 4x4 plastic tarp, small shovel, and some gardening hand troughs and rakes for use while detecting. We developed a good technique for yard-metal detecting. After getting a signal, cut up a cube of earth. Place the cube of earth on the tarp. Scan the cube to see if the metal is in it. Use the hand tools to break up the dirt cube and find the metal. Once we have the metal we re-fill the hole from the dirt on the tarp. If you keep the sod intact, you can re-cover the hole very nicely.

Bounty Hunter metal detector worked great,
This review is from: Bounty Hunter QSI Quick Silver Metal Detector (Lawn & Patio)
I had lost my wedding band while spreading mulch around the house and I decided to try a metal detector to find it before replacing the ring. After doing some research on metal detectors, I decided the Bounty Hunter model was a reasonably priced investment for the search. It was easy to assemble and use and I was able to locate the lost ring after about 15 minutes of searching (I did have a general idea of the location of where the ring had gotten lost and it was only an inch or so under the surface).

This detector is very easy to assemble, adjustable length, comfortable grips, very sensitive and precise. Fun to explore with!
The sound notifications beeps are loud so you will need headphones with it. I bought a Stereo plug for less than $4.00 which converts 1/8th to 1/4th inch and allows me to use any regular headphones or earbuds with this
