I got my Bount hunter about a year ago, and its easy to use and it works great. I have found many coins, mostly newer ones and several pieces of jewelry. But one day I found the craziest thing while messing with it in my back yard, I found a cable buried a couple inches deep and I pulled it up and followed it up into a tree where it led to a security camera pointed right into our bedroom window. I followed it the other way and it led right to my neighbors basement window. I immediatly called the cops and found out from them that the guy is a convicted sex offender, and that got him 1 year in jail.

I just got the bounty hunter for my birthday and I love it! It works great and within the first hour of having it I found a ring, a cool toy tank, an old penny, and a bunch of other miscellaneous junk. The different modes are great so that you don't waste time digging crap up you don't want. Overall its a great buy and functions well for the price, would be a very good model to get if you just got into metal detecting and are looking for a good first detector.

I was somewhat surprised when my wife purchased this unit for me for Christmas, but apparently I had mentioned wanting one. The great thing about this unit is that you can be detecting in 15 minutes after opening the box. The detector is easy to assemble and straightforward to operate.

There is some trial and error in getting it to work the way you want. Also, at some point you will have to make a philosophical decision about how many "hits" you want to investigate. You can adjust the level of discrimination, but different metals will give off different sounds depending on soil conditions and depth, so you really can't know for sure what's under the ground. If you use low discrimination and dig up every "hit", you're going to get a lot of junk, but if you only pursue the strongest and least ambiguous of signals, you're going to miss some possible good finds. One complaint (if you could call it that - I know you can't expect the world of a low-priced model) that was echoed by another reviewer is that it can be difficult to find the right place to dig. It only beeps when it moves, so you have to sweep it over the detected spot several times to pinpoint its location. After finding a "hit," my strategy is to place the detector on its side, dig out a clump of dirt in the targeted area, and wave it in front of the detector (making sure, of course, that I'm not wearing my metal ring or watch). If it goes off, I know the metal object is in that clump; if it doesn't, I dig up another clump.

I also agree with another reviewer that the meter is merely eye candy: it doesn't adjust in response to the signal strength, it just goes all the way to the right when you get a "hit".

I needed to find a part that fell off an antique car that had been sitting in my back yard for probably 20 plus years. I assumed the part had to be in the general area where the car had been sitting. I figured the part had to be badly detereated but I needed it to make a duplicate. This part can't be purchased new nor on e-Bay. Well, after finding several uninportant metal pieces, I found the piece I wanted about 3 inches deep! That find alone in my opinion payed for the detector.
Since that find I have done some detecting just for fun.
I find the quality and ease of use very good, the price was worth it for me.

For the price you can't beat what this detector brings to the table. First off, it's not an AT Pro so let's get that out of the way. It is still quite impressive when you factor in the cost for what you get.
The display is complete with knobs and toggle switches instead of a push button menu which adds to the simplicity factor for new detectorists. The auto ground balancing is also a great feature; literally turn it on and go no matter what terrain you're in. The Tracker IV is quite the impressive coinshooter and I've recovered quite a bit of clad and silver with it using the full discriminate mode. I've also detected using the tone mode and that takes a little getting used to but is quite nice once you get the hang of it. Haven't used the all metal mode as I hunt in trashy areas but I have no doubts that it would perform well in an area suiting it. Sensitivity is good and I've recovered items from 5"-6" down with no issues. Discrimination is also good and you can set it up to pretty much ignore anything that isn't copper, silver or clad. All in all I'm very happy with this purchase and I'm taking my Tracker IV into it's second season having used it at parks, schools and beaches across three states with the unit being up to the task every time.
The only downsides are the target indicator, which is absolutely useless and I can't even figure out what it is trying to tell me. Best just ignoring it and listening to the tones. Another fault is that when detecting in full discriminate mode all gold signals are negated (meaning if there's gold there you won't find it). These are minor issues and I look forward to using my Tracker IV until such time that I feel an upgrade to a semi-professional/professional model is warranted. Happy hunting!
