5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent how-to book for beautiful bouquets!
This is the book to get if you want to make fresh wedding bouquets for a wedding. Especially helpful are the detailed materials list for each bouquet project, plus an estimate of how far in advance the bouquet can safely be made. Each project features flowers that are in-season for the time of year stated in the book, and styles range from the traditional to the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty pictures, not a good how-to for beginners
If you have the expectation to learn to make your own bouquets, you will be disappointed.

This book is good from 2 perspectives, both of which can help you get some ideas for bouquets.
1) Pretty pictures
2) Discussion of the flowers, which types to use, the meaning of each flower (nice to know but not practical knowledge)

Not a good instruction book for...

This is the book to get if you want to make fresh wedding bouquets for a wedding. Especially helpful are the detailed materials list for each bouquet project, plus an estimate of how far in advance the bouquet can safely be made. Each project features flowers that are in-season for the time of year stated in the book, and styles range from the traditional to the unique and unusual. There is something here for every taste! I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing approach to bridal bouquets., March 11, 2000

It's difficult to find unique and elegant wedding flower books. This book was a breath of fresh air! As a florist, I'm always looking for books to give brides beautiful bouquet ideas. This book has been a been a big hit with every bride who's seen it. Most of the bouquets have a look of understated elegance. If you're looking for ideas on modern bridal bouquets, this is an excellent source. NOTE: It does have some instructions on how to make the bouquets, but the directions seem like they would be difficult without floral design background.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning arrangements, but not for beginners, January 18, 2002

I bought this book together with "Creative Wedding Florals You Can Make" to get ideas for the flowers for my wedding in June. I am making my own bouquets and arrangements. As a gardener, I know a lot about flowers, but I have never tried anything like this before. The arrangements in this book are creative and absolutely beautiful, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for creative ideas to give to a florist, or to someone who has experience in putting together floral arrangements. However, if you have never done floral design before, I would suggest that you buy another book along with this one (such as "Creative Wedding Florals") to supplement the how-to information in this book.

The bouquets are arranged according to season, but many can be used throughout the spring and summer. They include mixtures of garden flowers, roses, lilies, herbs, and hydrangeas, and the pictures are absolutely gorgeous. There are also instructions and ideas on how to make corsages and boutonnieres that complement the bouquets, which I found very helpful.

All in all, this is an excellent resource book for ideas, but it is a bit weak on the instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite Designs~Unique & Exceptional~A Bride's Must See!, March 21, 2000
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
I was pleasantly surprised with the content of this book. The Photography is Wonderful~the Bouquets are Exceptional~and the Information is Priceless.

Marsha Heckman has some of the most creative designs in Bridal Bouquets that I have ever seen. So pleasingly Romantic, and Wistful.

I was especially impressed with how she describes each flower included in each bouquet, and what each flower, vine, or berry represents. In addition, she lists the flowers and supplies required to make each bouquet, along with her added touches that make each one special to it's perspective Bride.

Her unique uses of seashells, pearls, rhinestones, and other materials, not usually indicative to a bridal bouquet, make this book a "Must See" for Every Bride! Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars What Brides Want, February 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
BOUQUETS stands out as a dream book for a bride-to-be. The bouquets and the photography are dreamy and romantic and soft, the history and meanings and traditions are just what I want to read. And the nuts and bolts how-to is practical.I've read every book and magazine about weddings since August and THIS is what I've been looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Bouquet Ideas, April 16, 2002
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
If you can't tell a peony from a pansy, you may need a little help when selecting bouquets and floral arrangement for your wedding day. As the editor of a wedding web site..., I'm often asked to recommend books on this topic. Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride by Marsha Heckman is one that is always at the top of my list. This hardcover publication is only 111 pages but it's packed with stunning photographs of bouquets and boutonnieres. While the book explains how to create each design, most couples will probably just use the photos as a resource to show their florist. The unique boutonniere ideas alone make this book worth the purchase price. The author grouped her ideas into four sections: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Within each section are chapters devoted to the months of the year. Marsha explains what flowers are in season and shows how couples have creatively utilized these buds in the past. While this book will leave you longing for more pictures of elegant arrangements (there just aren't enough), it's a great tool to begin your flower research.

5.0 out of 5 stars helpful for those who know nothing about flowers, January 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
When I looked at bouquets in wedding magazines, I always found them to be too gaudy or contemporary for my taste so by the time I walked into the florist to plan my wedding, I had no clue what to tell him. I found this book and it was so helpful! It clued me in on what flowers would be best for an off-season wedding. Each bouquet was clearly photographed and then the "recipes" indicated which flowers were being used. I highly recommend this book to people who, although have no intention on making their own bouquets, would still like to have sufficent knowledge to have a beautiful and unique bridal bouquet.

5.0 out of 5 stars makes wedding planning a lot easier, July 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
This book shows a lot of different bouquets and makes suggestions about which season is appropriate for which arrangement, as well as what sort of bouquet will most flatter the bride and her gown. It shows how to make the bouquets step by step, as well as boutonnieres that match, and can save a couple at least a thousand dollars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winning combination of great ideas and practical advice, September 15, 2004
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
Unlike most of the other books on wedding flowers that crowd the bookstore shelves, every page of this one is valuable. Marsha Heckman's bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages are great, even if there aren't that many of them, and they can definitely serve as an inspiration for your own ideas. The bouquets range from simple, one-flower affairs (callas, tulips) to extravagant multi-flower cascades. Nothing, to my eye, looks frumpy or dated. Best of all, she includes instructions on assembling your own bouquet, unlike other books that try to convince you that if you approach flowers without a professional florist, your wedding will explode in a fiery disaster. Even if you decide to work with a florist, you can thumb through and find out exactly how much work goes into each piece, so you're better informed. Or, in my case, you can decide to heck with paying that 10% of my budget that the Knot tells me I must surrender to have perfect flowers: I'll cradle a bundle of tulips that I tie myself, and no one will be the wiser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous looking bouquets, very precise instructions, June 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bouquets: A Year of Flowers for the Bride (Hardcover)
These bouquets are so beautiful, and not the ordinary "florist-y" look. We made bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids AND bouttonniers for all the men. It made our do-it-yourself wedding with family and friends working together really meaningful. We found the "recipes" very complete, nothing left out like some books and magazines, and the hints for when to make and how to store the flowers really helpful, our wedding flowers were so unique and special. The book's organization month by month made it easy to plan what flowers we could have at the time.
