For someone extremely interested in the county-by-county, distiller-by-distiller history of Kentucky bourbon (and sometimes rye), this book is a godsend. (For readers with only a casual interest, however, I suspect it will be far too detailed.) Cecil traces the opening and closing of many distilleries, the movement of distillers, the evolution of brand names, and even family relationships of figures in the history of distilling in Kentucky and occasionally reaching outside Kentucky (e.g., George Dickel).
