5.0 out of 5 stars Classic of the mid sixties, October 16, 2009

This review is from: Bout Changes 'n Things Take 2 (Audio CD)
If you have never heard of Eric Anderson, be prepared for a shock. This 'electric re-take' of his debut album features Harvey Brooks and Paul Harris - who played with his 'Bobship' - and the results are mesmeric. Anderson wrote beautiful songs on this, performed them with verve and they mostly stand the test of time. Highlights are 'Close the Door Lightly', 'Hey Babe, You've Been Cheatin', 'Violets of Dawn', and the anthem 'Thirsty Boots.' I've loved this album for over 40 years.

It was head and shoulders above efforts by Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton and many others who played the village scene. Only Bob trumped him, and the late, tragic Tim Hardin. I gave this album to my song writing/singing daughter and guitarist son as an example of great craft and commend it to anyone who loves great song writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uptempo / Improved version of Bout Changes 'n Things, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Bout Changes 'n Things Take 2 (Audio CD)
More than additional instruments all songs were recorded uptempo from Bout Changes 'n Things. Once you listen to Take 2 you'll never again play Bout Changes 'n Things. This is one of the top 3 Eric Andersen albums. I'm surprised this is the version out of print!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Electric Version, June 28, 2002

This is the second version of this album. The original acoustic recording, Bout Changes 'N Things, is also available through Amazon. Andersen was so inspired by Dylan's early electric works that he went back in the studio and recut the same songs in electric versions, this time with a band.

"Close the Door Lightly" is the standout track here (also covered by Fairport Convention in their early days), but most of the others are pretty good too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album even after 40 years, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Bout Changes 'n Things Take 2 (Audio CD)

I agree with "The Outsider" review. This is one of my favorite albums even after over 40 years. Every song has strong lyrics and a catchy melody. My one question is: when is this outstanding album going to be rereleased on cd?
