Detailed history of breed, special emphasis on police work,

This review is from: Bouvier Des Flanders: The Dogs of Flandres Fields (Hardcover)
As a new and first time owner of a Bouvier des Flandres puppy, I appreciated many of the details, historical, raising and breeding. The book emphasizes the Bouvier as a Schultzhund dog, which is the author's perogative. I would have appreciated more information on training of a Bouvier for a pet. Many dog owners desire a lovable pet not a champion police dog. The author is an important breeder of Bouviers and he has many valid points to keep the Bouviers to a standard. I myself researched breeders for several months as it is a problem. My summary statement is that the book is worth the money. If there is a revision, I hope the author will broaden his interests in the breed for the general dog owner.

This is it! The book that does the breed justice!,

If you are a Bouvier des Flandres fancier or just think that
you would like to know more about the breed, buy this book!
History, bloodlines, showing, training and grooming are all
covered in detail.
Best of all, this book does what we wish all breed books
did. It gives us an HONEST picture of a noble breed without
the sugar-coated praise that makes too many people buy the
wrong dog. Read this book and you won't go wrong when you
look into Bouviers.

Engle does an excellant job of portraying Bouviers as the working family dog they really are. All Bouvier owners should read this book. Kathleen Ryan

If You Love Bouviers...,

This review is from: Bouvier Des Flanders: The Dogs of Flandres Fields (Hardcover)
If you love Bouviers, you will love this book. It is worth every penny! Great history, photos, and packed all the information you need as a potential Bouvier owner or as an admirer of the breed. Pedigrees, puppy selection, grooming... it's all there. A must have if you plan to own a Bouvier. I keep mine on my bedside table... when I'm not carrying it around with me. (Yup, it's heavy.) This is the best Bouvier book I've ever found and definitely the most thorough.

Great for the Bouvier aficionado,

This review is from: Bouvier Des Flanders: The Dogs of Flandres Fields (Hardcover)
Excellent book to give you a working background of your Bouvier. Very interesting and helpful information to understand the breed and its heritage in order to be a better owner and more knowledgeable about this great dog. Reads like an encyclopedia dedicated solely to the Bouvier. If nothing else, the multitude of pictures of various Bouviers is fun to skim through and helpful for grooming reference. Would have been nice though if some pictures were in color, but due to age of photos I am not surprised by black and white.

I'm a little prejudiced...
I think Bouvs are the zenith of the dog experience. And this is the definitive book for Bouv lovers. Enjoy!

Bought used in "good" condition. Kind of dated but hope new addition comes out soon. Packaging was good. Some yellowing of pages around the edges from age I assume. No torn or folded pages. Book seems to be very indepth, it's a gift so not reading deeply into it.

Not as advertised,

I purchased this book advertised as "like new". Although it was in fairly good condition it was definately not like new. Almost 1/2 of the book and the back cover were stained and pages wrinkled as if something had been spilled on it. I realize it was cheaper than buying it new but it was not in the condition as advertised. I would think twice about buying from this vendor again.
