Westsiiiiiiide!,
By Philip Y. (Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bow Down (Audio CD)
I got this album right when it came out and I still think what I thought of it then. An incredible album - just pure gangsta rap. Ice Cube and Mack 10 tear it up but I think WC is the one that shines on that album, finally getting the reccognition he deserves for so long. Also awsome production by QDIII and Budda... A classic album also because it's one of the few who really stands up for the West Ccoast, demmanding the respect it deserves! The Crew isn't ashamed to diss the hell out of everybody who pisses them off - whether it's East Coast critics or rival rappers - The Westside Connection will drop bomb on their a** all day long. BOW DOWN!

Underrated & Overlooked...Why???,
This review is from: Bow Down (Audio CD)
this is a very well done record by 3 of Raps most elite personalities. Cube, Dub, & Mack definitely knew what they were doin when they made this record. The beats are amazing on all the tracks. This is one you can listen to straight through and not feel any need to hit the skip button. For me all these songs were hot from the first time i heard them. If you're a fan of the whole West Coast gangsta rap thing, You GOTTA HAVE THIS! My Fav tracks are "All the Critics in New York", "Do you like Criminals", "Gangsta's make the World go Round", "Westward Ho!", & "Hoo Bangin'"...although like i said, all the tracks are badass. peace

Killer connection,
By Nuisance "the rebel" (Miami) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bow Down (Audio CD)
This album gets five stars for the following reasons. 1. It doesnt betray its purpose with silly records like Get Ignit and Lights Out. 2. The production was hard. None of that street party music the second album had. 3. Ice Cube was always on point, and WC and Mack10 shine right along with him. This album reminds of NWA's N***az4Life. Uncompromising gangsta rap at its finest. Standout Track: BOW DOWN, GANGSTAS MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND, ALL THE CRITICS IN NEW YORK(NYC needs to be dissed for giving a talentless stoolbucket like Puffy a pass), THE GANGSTA THE KILLER& THE DOPE DEALER, DO YOU LIKE CRIMINALS, CROSS EM OUT AND PUT A K (Cube and Mac10 take shots at Cypress Hill and Q-tip), KING OF THE HILL(continued assault on Cypress Hill on this dope diss record), 3 TIME FELONS etc. Filler: None. Bottom Line: Westside Connection's Bow Down is one the best rap albums from a group in 96. Hard edged rhyming over gritty beats. Just a great album period. BOW DOWN!

FORGET YOUR FLAVOUR OF THE MONTH, BUY THIS!!!,
This review is from: Bow Down (Audio CD)
ive been a cube fan for as long as i can remember and i only just got this album yesterday although i had heard of it for years!!! it is...without question the best gangsta rap album i have EVER heard in my life, and ive hears a lot. i dont care if your down for the east coast or west coast or whatever, i dont care if they diss cypress hill and Q-tip, i dont care about critics who hate mack 10, and i dont care about all you DRE fans who were scared to stay with CUBE. just listen to the production on this album...all the tracks are amazing and you cant sit still whilst listening to them...my favourites were 'BOW DOWN','GANGSTAS MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND','THE GANGSTA THE KILLA AND THE DOPE DEALER' and 'KING OF THE HILL'. never heard of westside connection? keep the reciept...but you'll end up tearing it up which is exactly what these three true players do. PEACE AND IM OUT.

A Seminal Gangsta Rap Album,
By William M. Rand (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bow Down (Audio CD)
This is a seminal album in the Gangsta Rap genre, and truly a phenomenal piece of work. It has a wide collection of great songs from the pheonomenal "Bow Down" to the very end with the great sound "Hoo-Bangin" and you can't forget the song that best describes this set, "The Gangsta, The Killa, and the Dope Dealer" Then there are the two little skits throw in that still make me laugh. This CD is a great piece of work all around and a must have for anyone who likes rap.

The best living/working group in rap today.,
By
This review is from: Bow Down (Audio CD)
As i said the best group in rap today. Smooth Lyrics, real rap artists (ICE CUBE, MAC 10, WC)doing what they do best an album for the people not for the radio. If you like Ice cube at all buy this album NOW. The title track is just one of an album full of songs that are well written from top to bottom. This isn't an album with four songs and 17 skits it is all music. They do get in to the East/West thing as could be expected from the groups name, but they don't make slamming the competition a priority over making good music. The best Rap album i've bought in years.

"Bow down to a n**** that's greater than you".......,

It's 1996. Hip hop 's civil war(the East Coast-West Coast feud)is at a fever pitch. The balance of power is swinging back westward with the release of 2Pac's "All Eyez On Me". While 2Pac would lose his life in '96, he wasn't hardly all that the West had to offer. Ice Cube must have had enough of all the criticism from that California hip hop and even himself had taken; so he and his proteges started upa West supergroup, the Weststide Connection. The album they released, "bow Down", is one of the best albums the West Coast has relased. Cube, Mack 10 and W.C. lad down some fierce rhymes on the title teack, "Gangsta's Make The World Go Round, "All The Critics In New York" and "Cross Em Out And Put A K". The album's best track is "King Of The Hill", whck destroys Cypress Hill. Highly reccomended album for me.

BOW DOWN,

Westside Connection must be one of the dopest collaborations between gangsta rappers of all timez!!Personally i think this cd is even better then NWAs material although these posses cant really be compared musically.Ice cube, Mack 10 and WC the shadiest come so incredibly hard on this album, i mean every track sounds equally dope to the "natural born killaz" track Dre and cube released around the same period of time!! You cant find beats that sound more westcoast then these: you got the rough gangsta-type-basslines compared with the high synthesizer beeps, add three rappers on the warpath and you too will bow down to the lyricall greatness of these three felons! As i said "the gangsta, the killa and the dopedealer" are on the warpath which makes them sound even more angry then they usually do! (can you imagine?) I mean: all three rappers have been given some dominating hard hitting voices. The vendetta against the cypress hill crew got the crew so mad...." B-real and miss Muggs are like hollywood B##tches" if i was b real i would be hiding somewhere quite by now!! besides their war against the hill-crew ,westside connection is mainly concerned with the east-west struggle which has lost much of its actuality nowadayz. Doesnt matter:the tracks are still bangin the lyrics are still gangstafying and quit frankly it has been a while since i heard ice cube and mack 10 comming as hard as they do here!! I cant forget WC the shadiest though, relatively the most unknown rapper of the three. His style seems 2 complete the lyrics given by cube and mack 10 the chickenhawk. classic-buy it-nuff said

Props to the Connect Gang!,

Stellar album from the Westside Connection. They are so strong it will take your breath away. "King of the Hill" is in my opinion the single greatest diss track ever written, surpassing even "No Vaseline". Even B-Real from Cypress Hill had to admit they took no prisoners on that track. I'm at a loss to describe how wonderful this album is. You will smile and nod your head to every track. So descriptive, so uncompromising, so fluid and lyrical.
No collection of rappers have ever performed as well on an album as the Connect Gang do on this one. Superlative. |
