Got the mat for free for ordering the Series 7 treadmill and while putting the mat under my treadmill it ripped. It is made by this rubbery plastic, and it's just okay. I wouldn't pay $100 for it, it's true, but I was very disappointed that it ripped so easily. Not very durable... but I got mine for free, so I guess I wasn't too surprised it was given away.

1.0 out of 5 stars Here is a much better alternative., November 24, 2007

I have tried many different equipment mats and have always been disappointed. Mats like this bowflex mat offer very little protection for your equipment or floor. These mats rip very easily.

A much better alternative is a 4' x 6' x 3/4" thick rubber mat that you can buy from a farm supply store such as Blain's Farm and Fleet or Tractor Supply Co. I can't take credit for this idea. I discovered this when searching the web for a durable mat. This was suggested by many bodybuilders on the bodybuilding dot com website/forum. These rubber mats are called "Horse Stall Mats" or "Cow Stall Mats". These mats are made to last for years of abuse from cows and horses stomping, urinating, and other shtuff. Therefore, they will certainly hold up to exercise equipment, dumbbells/weights being dropped, and human sweat without a problem. I purchased two of these Cow Stall Mats from Farm and Fleet for $39 each. I got two incredible rubber mats for less than the price of one wimpy Bowflex mat.

One other tip... I have tried out the Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells. They seem very cheaply made. That are very long even at smaller weight settings so they might hit your thighs when you are trying to do arm curls. When doing heavy dumbbell bench presses most people like to balance the dumbbells on end on your legs so you can "kick" them up into place. The Bowflex dumbbells are not shaped properly on the ends making this awkward. It could also create a safety issue if the dial is bumped and accidentally gets turned. After searching for the perfect dumbells I decided on the Ironmaster Quick-Lock Dumbbells 5-75lbs. from Ironmaster dot com. Another better alternative to the Bowflex are the Powerblocks. But the Ironmaster Quick-Lock dumbbells will give you the look and feel of REAL dumbells, the stand is included, and a lifetime warranty. I love mine!!! (The Ironmaster Super Bench is awesome too!)

I got this for free with my Bowflex Extreme 2... I wouldn't have dished out 100 dollars for it. The Extreme 2 doesn't even fit on it right, so if it's supposed to protect hard wood floors (I have carpet) you would need two of them or it would have to be twice as big.

But hey, I got it for free. What do I care? It feels neat on my feet... but it stinks like a gym when you first unwrap it. Now it just smells like my feet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mat is fine for my Boflex Ultimate 2, October 9, 2006

Bought 2 of these mats on Amazon's Friday sale about 5 months ago, I paid 25 dollars a piece. For 25 dollars they are well worth the price. At their regular retail price ($100) I think they are a bit over priced. I am very pleased with the mats anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars bowflex mat, January 4, 2007

the mat works well to keep the machine from damaging the floor, but it does stay completeley flat on the carpet due to the weight distribution of the machine. the mat buckles up in a few place which is really annoying to me.

This mate was a good purchase for the price of $27.00. It does the job of keeping the Bowflex from ruining my carpet. I wouldn't pay the now $99.00 for it though because it's made of a very thin material and could easily rip or tare.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Mat, July 11, 2006
This review is from: Bowflex Equipment Mat (Sports)
Just got my mat, which was free with the Bowflex I bought, and it is pretty nice. Nothing special.. it is what it is.. a nice looking mat. I don't see this thing ripping anytime soon. And mine doesn't make the whole room smell like rubber like someone else commented.. But like I said.. mine was free. I would never pay $90 for one of these :)

The bowflex mat was a free giveaway when I purchased a bowflex. The mat is made of top quality material. I believe it is a necessary accessory for a carpeted workout room. It keeps the dripping sweat off the carpet and the mat keeps the feet of the machine from crushing the carpet and leaving marks. I'm glad the mat was a freebe because I'm too cheap to pay $99 for one.
