5.0 out of 5 stars Remastering?, April 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Box Office Bomb (Audio CD)
How can you judge how good the music on an album is simply because the production wasn't "perfect?" Whoever wrote their response about the production quality doesn't understand the value of imperfection. Sometimes that minor garage-band sound, which is not the case with this CD, is better than having something crisp and remastered. Remastering can ruin an album.

This album is outstanding regardless of the quality of the recording. It's their second best album next to their first album, Cinema Verte. It's a must have if you're a fan of their music.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Sophomore Jinx Here, October 23, 2011

If you've read my review of Cinema Verite then this one reads about the same.
I went back and recently picked up their first two albums (I know - about 25 years too late) and was blown away.
Box Office Bomb won't disappoint long time fans if you were like me and only knew then from Vinyl and Hi Fi Sci Fi.
This album contains the great Steve & Edie and It's Still Warm which have been on past greatest hits.
But the real treat here is Worse Than Being By Myself.
A real stunner - it's got all the Easdale angst and E-boy's moody guitar fills.
The other songs are also vintage Dramarama - Modesty Personified, Baby Rhino's Eye, Out in the Rain - all great.
The only misstep, and it's minor, is a cover of Patti Smith's Pumpin'.
Loved the original but somehow this one doesn't do it for me.
All in all - pick up the first two Dramarama albums - you can get 'em cheap these days online.
And if you're a true fan, you'll pick up the Bent Backed Tulips album which Dramarama recorded and released in the mid 80s as they had a wealth of extra material the record label wouldn't release.
More undiscovered good stuff.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good songs, poor production, December 12, 2003
This review is from: Box Office Bomb (Audio CD)
The thing that really annoys me about this cd is the poor production, Maybe it was from 1989 and they never remastered it. You could hear noise throughout the cd. And that really prevented me from appreciating the songs. Their later cd's have better recording qualities. Therefore I gave this cd a 4-stars.
