$2.99 for a boxed set of romantic/vampire/suspense? Sign me up! I am a voracious fiction reader and have been known to finish an entire novel in one evening.

After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting anything great, and it's not great. It's acceptable, even fun, providing you can get past the atrocious, juvenile errors/lack of editing. Don't get me wrong--I can definitely suspend my disbelief. With these books, though, I had to really work to suppress the inner english-teacher ghosts that might otherwise interfere with enjoying a good pulp read. I'm sure the author worked hard on these books, and I respect that effort so I generally find it hard to write bad reviews.

That being said, at least once a chapter I had to put down the kindle, unroll my eyes, and question whether I REALLY wanted to spend minutes of my life with these books whether or not they were already paid for. I actually didn't finish all the books in the set, but I did come close. The writing really IS quite juvenile. At first I thought the author was trying to channel juvenile, uneducated characters. For instance, when one of the main characters "sucker punched" one of the bad guys "real good." But when someone grew tired of their words falling "on death ears," or when a character was about to "knot off" to sleep, I had to question whether my time was really well spent. In the end, I put them down an ordered something else, which turned out to be much more to my taste. (For instance, one author I am a fan of is Laurel K. Hamilton, and I found J.R. Rain to be in line with some of her novels.)

If you like watching "Real World" or "Jersey Shore" then you'll probably enjoy these just fine.

I have to say it took me a couple books to get going in this series, but after finishing all 5, I'm hooked and eagerly awaiting the next installments, which apparently are coming in Feb and March of '11. I ended up liking Tommy's prequel book the best. I was really surprised to find the books written from the first person MALE point of view, definately a different perspective in this genre (the author is also male). I'm not good at coming up with book synopsis, so I'll let others do that. The story is as good as several other big-name authors I read, a real bargain at the kindle price I got it. Hope the author makes some money on the next installments!

The character dialogue is very readable and enjoyable, the different personalities are well drawn. Lena might be the blandest although her storyline is finally picking up so we'll see how it goes. I'm docking a star because the editing is horrible. Honestly, MS Word has spell and grammar check that would have caught 98% of this author's mistakes. Stuff like wrong punctuation, quotes in the wrong places, misspellings, badly worded sentences detract from the story.

Looking forward to the next installments!

Here's a Primer so you understand what is going on with Vampire Lover Series by H.T. Night. Josiah is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) professional fighter who can't seem to go anywhere without someone wanting to kick his ass. His life is watched over by a "friend" in the form of a red hawk. His roommate is Tommy who is the only sense of family he has left in this world, a close personal friend & also a MMA fighter - higher in the rankings than Josiah. One night, he goes jogging, saves a damsel in distress (Lena), gets into a fight with frat boys who almost beat his ass (with the aid of a baseball bat). Rescuing him are others dressed in black who are the Mani (Night's name for vampires). They van-nap him for a couple of days and the fun begins. Also in Night's world are the Carni (werewolves) who have an ongoing blood feud with the Mani. Enter prophecy about the Chosen One, shifting personal relationships, awesome and powerful enemies and the saga takes off in full swing. Josiah Reign must listen to his own heart and personal convictions while adjusting to a new life leading to..uncertainty and making the right choices. H.T. Night has created with these books a saga that covers nearly the whole world.
Interspersed with the shifting ground of relationships are fight sequences that are tough and demanding, almost a primer in itself in the art of mixed martial arts. You can almost feel the punches, crunches, flips, and headlocks. The world full of bad asses and Josiah and Tommy rank at the top of the chain.
Those of you who might askance at Paranormal Romance should give this is a shot as the price for five novels is a good one. The writing moves you along further into Night's world with an ever widening expansion of possibilities and the kick ass actions are pretty cool, too. Give this series a might like it.

What a great way to spend some time. Even though there is some editing needed, the stories are interesting and the dialogue is enjoyable. The author has a definite vision for his work, and it comes through in a way few authors can manage. I highly recommend this series to anyone who wants a fun way to spend a couple hours.

Having read the Kindle edition I have this to say...

I've read all but the 5th book and while I reflectively enjoyed them; but like the other readers who gave it low reviews I did not appreciate the horrid editing or lack there of.

First off ; Author please go here - [...] and should the URL not publish properly do a g00gle search with - How to use you're and your. OMG!!! Also, do a google search for the topic of how to use quotation marks when chacters speak; I continually had to go back and find out that what was supposedly said was to have been a thought and not something that was actually said by the character.

Proof read your work, get somebody else to proof read it.

And to make matters worse, in book four or maybe three the author incorrectly spells one of the character's name wrong! Not once, not twice, but perhaps three times and all on the same bloody page or pretty near to it.

And and it gets worse I was reading another book by the author; I think it was Werewolf Lover, and just about any word that had 'tom' in it had be camel cased with a capital T. If this is the sort of product that Amazon lets loose on its site then they need to take a more proactive role to ensure a quality product because it seems that the author or their editors are horrid in checking things.

Kindle series marked down: Worth it?
I bought it at the .99 price because of the price and because I was hoping it would be a decent series. The good news is that the storyline is great. The bad news is that the grammatical and spelling errors throughout the entire series are atrocious, and some of the dialogue comes across as... Read More
