This inexpensive book can be the one and only source for those who just acquired a Box Turtle or who has had one for a little while. You will be able to get to know your turtle better, thus providing it with better survival chances or better health and longevity. Owners must be aware of what it takes to keep a Box Turtle!

I bought a box turtle in 1993 because my grandkids talked me into it! And boy was I ignorant! The little thing almost died before I found The Box Turtle Manual. And no wonder, because I was doing everything wrong! This little book saved my turtle's life, I have no doubt. And now my turtle is not only a healthy, happy, growing, hibernating, reptile, but she has her own website.... It answered ALL the questions I had, plus ones I didn't know enough to ask! It was and continues to be invaluable! Thank You Philippe De Vosjoli and Roger Klingenberg!

I love this book. I can't praise it enough for all the helpful hints it has given me, helped me out with big and small problems I've encountered with my turtles, and last but not least, it SAVED ME MONEY because I didn't have to go to the veterinarian with all the small problems, they were easily dealt with once I knew how. It's a must-have for any turtle-owner!

This book is awesome! Everything that keepers need can be found here in this easy to read, straight to the point book. If you have, or are considering a pet Box turtle you need this book!!

I've owned a wonderful box turtle, Pete, for three years. I've found this book to be useful for troubleshooting, and I do appreciate what it says about children who are given turtles and don't know how to handle them. But I object to the book's stance that turtles are best thought of as specimens to look at but not interact with. We pick our turtle up every day and kiss him goodnight every night. Handling doesn't stress him; in fact, he often naps on my shoulder. He is our pet and a member of our family, and we all seem to enjoy interacting with each other.

The chapter on illness helped me catch an ear infection in my own turtle at an earlier stage than the vet had ever seen.

My son had a wood turtle who was experiencing some problems with his eyes. Finally bought this book, but the turtle died before I got the book. The book is very good and has a lot of good information for us people who don't know much about turtles. Wish I would have gotten the book a little sooner and realized what the problem really was.

This book while informative was a little disappointing in other ways, such as its tone etc. Still a solid reference, and a good way to learn about how to take care of your pet.

I purchased this book because my new box turtle, who seemed very lively in the pet store just would not eat. I'd done a great deal of research on what they like to eat on the internet, but thought perhaps he was sick. This book was very detailed, and wonderful at addressing my concerns with all the aspects of why he may not have been eating. While I don't agree with all the things the book says (Like turtles should be seen and not interacted with) Its a very good book for diagnosis of problems.

It's no wonder this book is considered "the standard" in box turtle circles. When we first acquired our little ornate boxie, the turtle group I turned to for help recommended I purchase this book. It was an extremely good investment. We have a healthy, happy turtle - and I credit this book for that. It explains almost every facet of their care, common health problems and resolutions, diet, anatomy and physiology, species information, and frequently asked questions. If you are researching box turtles, thinking about one to your family, are a new owner, or just interested in the species and care, this is the first book you should look into. Even though it's thin, it's super-packed with tons of information. This one book will increase your knowledge about boxies. A little out of date, purchase this, Tess Cook's book "Box Turtles", and find a good herpetologist who knows a lot about turtles, and you are all set to enjoy a long life with your new roommate.

This is more of a manual than a novel.
