Customer Reviews

After using it for several months, it works well with both my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4.
James A. Bezdan
To me they are worth their weight in gold for what they are going to be used for and have saved me headaches with.
Bradley R. Clampitt
It is decidedly not handy to remove the adapter and plug the cable back in to a USB port to sync.

The adapter works exactly as promised and is very convenient. One thing not completely explained is that when using the adapter syncing with the computer is disabled.

I tried it with both an iPhone 5 and iPad 3 and neither said it would charge from my CyberPower USB 2.0 7-port with/Power Adapter hub.

I've had a Boxwave USB AC/12V combo charger for years that's worked fine for my older iPod and other devices. When I got a 4G iPod touch I ran into the problem that I couldn't charge it using my old charger, which was simply ignored. It wasn't 100% clear if this device would solve the problem, but for the price figured it was worth a shot. And it works, sort of. Maybe 1/3 of the time I plug it in and it charges fine. Sometimes I plug it in and it says charging is not supported with this device, but it works if I unplug it and plug it back in. Then sometimes it charges for awhile, and at some point it stops and the iPod says the device is not supported. Once, after appearing to charge for awhile, I came back to discover it had proceeded to almost completely discharge the iTouch. So it's sort of useful to me, but not reliable, and I'll probably have to do what I was trying to avoid and buy yet another charger.

Took awhile hunting through page-after-page of flames directed a Verizon's on their self-help message board. While ragging on a vendor like Verizon has cathartic benefits, it detracts from solutions. One lonely voice in the wilderness suggested the BoxWave "iPod Charger Adapter" as the solutions to overcome the poor engineering that prevents the otherwise wonderful mobile WiFi device, the Verizon MiFi, from charging while in use. Suggestions on the Verizon site included dozens of people who seemed more interested in how clever they were in the fine art of cable-cobbling. Hey, it's simple. Why pay $5 for some dumb cable made in an Asian factory when all you need is duct tape, a flame thrower, a meat clever and half-day rental of a front end loader?

I love this cable. I don't like duct tape. If you have a MiFi, get this cable. it works perfectly. Now I can use my MiFi and charge it, even plug it in or pull out the cable without resetting the device (the original problem).

This device appears to work in that it makes the iPad think that it is being charged in full-charge mode. The iPad is NOT being charged in full-charge mode, however. This device simply does not function at all, at least not on the iPad 2. When plugged in, the iPad will show as charging but the device does not provide for or allow any additional power so the iPad just charges in trickle just like it would without this adapter. All that this thing does is change the charging icon on the display. It does nothing else whatsoever. The other reviewers are simply being fooled into thinking that this device is doing something just because it fools an Apple device into thinking that it is connected to a high-power USB port. They also do not know that an Apple device DOES charge with normal USB connections (without this adapter) even though the display shows "Not Charging". Just plug an iPad into a normal USB port and leave it overnight. Does it charge? Of course it does. It just charges in trickle mode and this adapter does NOT CHANGE THAT. All it does is flip a bit to make the iPad think that it is connected to a high-power USB port. It does NOTHING else.

As an added bonus, this adapter will not allow syncing. Know why? Because it is using the data line to give a signal to the "Apple device" line to fool the Apple device into thinking that it is connected to a "high power" USB source. All that is cable does is literally cross-connect one wire. Cables are copper wire, people. They are not "magic".

This thing is useless. For all of those reviewers who think that this thing actually works....I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I can sell you.....

I have a Brunton Explorer solar panel. I was disappointed originally to find that an ipod touch firmly refuses to be charged by it. The panel works fine with any other usb powered device, but for some bad tempered reason, Apple decided it would make their products not function with it. When I found the BoxWave ipad charging adapter, I thought "what the heck". For less than 10 dollars it's worth a try. When it came, I plugged it into my solar panel, plugged the ipod docking cable into it and the ipod, and after a 30 second or so delay (why, I don't know) it started charging my ipod! Success! It also allows the panel to charge my ipad. I don't use this item the way it was intended, because I have been told that trying to draw more power from your PC's usb port than it was designed to put out can damage it, but in true Mythbusters fashion, it works very well indeed for another purpose entirely.

Great device:

PROS:
1. Small. Great for traveling.
2. Works well. Fully charges both my iPhone and iPad in about an hour or two.
3. Works even when used with a "USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable".

CONS:
1. You cannot sync an iPad or iPhone with iTunes when charging with this device.

I compared this adapter to the "USB Charging/ Charger Adapter for Apple iPAD - Allows you to charge your iPad with any computer or USB hub + Free Stripes Stars Silicone Wristband".

Since I travel alot, I prefer this iPad charging adapter. Unlike the other device, you won't have to worry about losing the cap.

This adapter would get the 5 stars, if you could sync the iPad/iPhone with the adapter.
