order this from their website. shipping there costs $2.50 instead of $45 like Boxwave charges here. Apparently this very small piece of plastic comes in a 3 lb box!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars but a couple of caveats, July 30, 2006
This review is from: BoxWave Palm TX ClearTouch Crystal Screen Protector (Single Pack) (Electronics)
Now that I have finally got this on my Palm and working, I love it. It's a thin piece of plastic, and it comes with a lint-free cloth and a cardboard applicator for clearing out the bubbles. The surface is clear as a bell and smooth as glass. The other screen protector I tried had a plasticky feel to it and slowed down the stylus.

The first couple of attempts at applying the ClearTouch somehow turned on the Keylock of my Palm and disabled the touchscreen. I actually thought my Palm was broken. Finally, I removed the ClearTouch screen protector and my touchscreen worked again.

I went through this procedure three times with the same results - painstakingly putting the screen protector on, working out the bubbles, turning on the Palm only to find the touchscreen wouldn't work.

I was on the verge of returning the product but tried a fourth time. This time, I just positioned the screen protector without using any pressure to eliminate the bubbles. It worked.

I also found it easier to use the lint-free cloth and my fingers to remove the bubbles, rather than the cardboard applicator. I could feel the bubbles well enough though the cloth to work them out gently with my fingers.

Another word to the wise: Buy this product either here or from another reseller who accepts returns and has good customer service. Don't buy directly from Boxwave. If you have any problems, you'll be glad you are dealing with someone responsive.

Boxwave sent me ClearTouch for the Tungsten T5, not the Palm TX I had ordered. It turns out both models have the exact same size screen, so they had sent the right item. However, there was no explanation of that in the package. It took close to a week to get a response from BoxWave. They don't answer their phone, ever, or return calls. They finally responded via email, but it took several days even for that.

this is my 2nd try at a screen protector for my palm tx. i tried the palm screen protector that came with my pda, but that was awful. this one, is better in every way.

first, this isn't a film, but more like a thin piece of plastic. the closest thing i could describe it as, is a thick transparency paper with a side that has the adhesion characteristics of a post it note. the added rigidity makes it fairly easy to lay down onto the pda screen. i was thrown off by this at first. the protector was protected on both sides with a thin film. at first i thought that one of the thin films was the screen protector! i guess that comes from my experiences with fellows and palm screen protectors.

the rigidity also makes it washable. i washed mine two or three times in my quest to get a perfect dust free application. something you can't do with other screen protectors. a side effect the rigidity has, is that any water droplets trapped underneath the protector are slowly squeezed out to the sides over time. amazing.

no tapping problems of any kind with this applied to the touchscreen as well. the "crystal screen" is quite transparent with no texture or finish to the surface to scatter light. the protector came well packaged with an applicator tool (small laminated cardboard card) and a small swatch of microfiber.

highly recommended stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best, October 12, 2006

I have tried several other companies' screen protectors on my Tungsten, and this is the best so far. I was amazed at the crispness of the handwriting recognition (this was a suprise to me, because the plastic is thicker than other companies, but the recognition is better). The smooth surface allowed me to write relatively fast compared to the friction on some other screen protectors. Also, the stiffer plastic seems durable, i've used it for about 2 months now and there is no wear in tear in the writing area or elsewhere at all.

(Examples of some others I've tried:
PALM's screen protector is awful, aside from cutting the right size (a minor issue), the soft plastic creats a lot of friction when I try to write and slows me down, has poor character recognition, and the soft plastic over the grafitti writing area was totally scratched up afer a couple of weeks.

FELLOW's screen protector that I had 4 years ago was fantastic, but the one that I got a couple months ago was useless. After I stuck it to my pda's screen, the pda didn't recognize ANY of my attempts to try to write or press the screen buttons. At first I thought my pda had froze, but afer several times resetting/re-installing my pda software, I realized it's the stupid fellowesscreen protector that rendered my pda useless. I already told Fellowes about this problem, so hopefully future versions of their product will be better)

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT!, January 21, 2007

At first, I thought this product was ridiculously expensive for a sheet of plastic. Then I read the reviews and was impressed. Finally, I attempted to place the included screen protector that came with my TX and had to rip it off moments later (high friction, tons of bubbling, arghh!!!!).

Application is critical. Take your time, make sure the screen is clean and dust free (compressed air is your friend). Place this protector down to fit two sides and trust that it is sized perfectly. You want the middle to contact first. Then work the included applicator card to squeeze out any bubbles out the side.

As previous reviews mentioned, this is the screen protector to get! It's surface is slick making it easy to pen. Sensitivity is maintained and it appears to be very durable. I think ordering just one is all you will ever need.

I got this for my palm TX. It's good, meets my expectations and definitely much better than the palm screen protector. My feedback:
1) Exact size; no cutting needed
2) Sustainable; reusable and can use for a long time
3) Grafitti writing recognition is better than the palm version
4) Very clear

The only downside is that it's quite expensive but hey...if it's going to help the environment, I'm all for it.

As other reviewers noted, it does scratch over time. After a year and a half of heavy use, the area over the Graffiti input spot was heavily scratched. This did not impact the accuracy of text input, but was annoying. The accuracy of text input didn't improve over no screen protector. When the scratched spot got irritating, I simply removed the screen protector, turned it 180 degrees, and stuck it on again. The scratched area didn't obscure the screen and was no longer in the Graffiti text input spot.

I bought this after reading its reviews and am glad I did. Previously, I'd owned the cheaper varieties that come 2 to 3 to a pack. After a few months of use, the cheaper ones were all scratched up in the writing area -- which made letter recognition difficult for my Palm.

The Clear Touch has been on my Palm for ages -- maybe 2 years -- and is still going strong. I did gouge the Clear Touch early on, but that's the only visible blemish. This thing is not indestructible, merely "very tough", which is good enough for me.

I had a screen break and had to send it off for repairs. Because of this the one protector that came with my TX had to come off. I decided to replace it with this one, mostly due to the bad revues some competitors had. I have to say, this is much better than the palm freebie ever was. It is very hard to tell it is there at all, and the handwriting recognition works MUCH better with this brand. The shipping on this is only a few dollars, so they seem to have resolved any past issues some reviewers had.

Boxwave was very prompt in shipping the overlay.

Definitely a nice screen overlay, though costly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, needs minor improvements, June 20, 2007

Just as the other reviews say, this touchscreen protector really does look and feel a lot better than stock palm or belkin screen protectors.

1) LOOKS GOOD -- i'd say palm and belkin protectors diminish the "raw" screen image quality by 30-40%. this protector diminishes it maybe by 10%, definitely a noticeable improvement and very much appreciated if you like your PDA to look good.

2) FEELS GOOD -- the stock screen protectors diminish the stylus responsiveness by about 20%. this product is actually **smoother** than the "raw" screen, and for me it makes the stylus a lot easier to use, **enhancing** the responsiveness by about 10-15%.

3) ADVICE -- easy to apply but definitely get all the dust out before you apply it. after i applied it the first time, i noticed dust and hair underneath the screen protector that i had not noticed before . i took the screen off (be careful and gentle), washed it, re-cleaned the PDA surface, and reapplied to make it look better. worked fine, easy to clean with soap and water, just minimize your greasy fingers touching underneath it.

4) NEGATIVES --
a) the fit -- there is a 1 mm perimeter of exposed screen on the top and one side of my palm TX. i don't care about this issue look-wise, but the stylus does get caught on it occasionally and some of the edges do not "seal" completely to the surface, kind of like a permanent air bubble or like dog ears on a book (perhaps a result of shipping damage, in which case they should provide better packaging for the product).
b) scratch resistance -- it's certainly better than the stock screen protectors, but it is still not 100% scratch resistant, which i'm not sure is even realistically possible. it WILL develop scratches over time (eg- i've had mine for only 3 weeks, i take care of my PDA pretty well, and there are already a handful of tiny scratch specks in the graffiti area, although only visible at certain angles -- this is being really picky here, but you should be aware of it).

because it is not a "perfect" product and expensive compared to other screen protectors, i've rated it 4 out of 5. that said, i will likely purchase it again when my screens get worn out. i consider it a "luxury" item -- if you use your PDA all the time, it's worth the purchase. if you are not super dependent on your PDA, it's maybe not worth it.
