Cord doesn't last,

I have had this cord for 2 years, which is a while, I know, but I would expect a simple item like a cord to last longer than 2 years. It no longer charges my device. Faulty craftsmanship? Or is this the standard way things are made. Love my iriver, wish other things were made as well as it was.
