If you love a highly spirited dog that is "active and fun loving" you might enjoy the boxer!, September 2, 2009
This review is from: Boxers Are the Best! (Best Dogs Ever) (Library Binding)
Perhaps you've watched the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show when the regal boxer came on and became instantly enthralled. It's one thing to fall in love with the look of a dog, but it is quite another thing to welcome one into your home. Boxers make for "wonderful show dogs," but may or may not be quite the dog for you. If you love a dog who will answer your door and throw a "wet sloppy kiss" on your company, perhaps you might want to take a closer look at this highly "loyal and reliable" companion. In this book you will be presented with five questions that will probably let you know exactly what you are getting into. For example, if you are a loner and would like to have an independent dog you may as well forget it because "a boxer will always want to be with you."
This highly spirited dog is very "active and fun loving." They are the type of dog that will always want to be in the middle of things, always desire attention, have "boundless energy," and LOVE to be with people. This dog could easily fit the description of having a coat of many colors. It comes in everything from tan, brindle, white to a "deep reddish brown." You will learn that the white ones have a tendency to have hearing problems, you'll learn about their German origins, how they helped soldiers in WWI, how they help society, their high energy, how they sometimes can be found "running around in circles," their exercise requirements, you'll learn they are very intelligent, they are a costly dog, they need a lot of space, what basic list of supplies you'll need, veterinarian care and more!
I certainly enjoyed the entertainment this book had to provide, but also learned a lot about the boxer and its needs. The author is very careful in stressing the need for the family to learn about each breed they consider and to make sure it will fit their lifestyle. The book is very well written, carefully researched and lots of fun to read. The book is peppered with interesting photographs and has several scattered, informative sidebars. This is one in the series "The Best Dogs Ever." In the back of the book there is an index, a glossary and additional recommended book and website resources. If you pass the quiz in this book, you may have found your ideal dog. If not, . . . well, you might just want to look at another one of the books in this series!
