I have been on the search for a mostly dust-free litter that actually clumps and doesn't leave that oh-so-pleasant sludge stuck to the box for pretty much my entire cat-owning life. You'd think I was asking for the impossible: a clumping litter that actually clumps, what a concept. Fragrance free preferred. Litter that doesn't stick in my cat's paws [or my feet] like tiny jagged pebbles. You know, general stuff. Along came Boxiecat. I figured it was a marketing gimmick litter that was no different from the stuff at the supermarket, just in a more modern cutesy package which the whole delivery schtick.
Except... this stuff ACTUALLY WORKS.
My cat now has CRF and receives sub-q fluids 3x a week, which means she urinates more than the average cat. I truly believed at this point that it was time to give up the 'perfect' litter search, use whatever was cheapest, and get on with my life because if nothing worked when she used the box as a perfectly healthy cat then obviously it was all going to be a thousand times worse now. Boxiecat proved me so very, very wrong. There is absolutely NO SLUDGE. NONE. How can this be?! It clumps up and doesn't fall apart when I scoop it out of the box - witchcraft, I say! You may get a tiny bit of sludge if your cat loves to piss you off and pee in the corners of the box but cover it up with the litter, wait a few minutes, and it dries it up for you. No coughing when I pour this into the box because there's very little dust. Smell? What smell? Do I even still have a cat? I don't smell poop or pee or, better yet, irritating potpourri fragrance attempting to mask poop and pee. As for litter tracking, well, my cat always makes a mess with that because, hey, she doesn't care, she's not the one cleaning it up. But it certainly doesn't hurt to step on this stuff it's so fine.
Now, if Boxiecat is my own personal religion as my review would lead you to believe, why wouldn't I give it 5 stars? Well. Paying $20 for 16 pounds of litter is... a lot. To say the least. To say the most, it's downright insane. I completely understand that a huge chunk of that gets eaten up by shipping with USPS Priority flat-rate boxes, I really do. But as the customer, that doesn't change the fact that I'm still forking over $20 for 16 pounds of litter. If you use a large litter box, have multiple cats, and/or a cat that urinates a lot, you'll be going through this stuff a bag a week and that is just way too much money for most people to spend on litter.
In short: this litter is so amazing I want to adopt it and call it my own, but only so I could claim it as a dependent and get a tax break. Seriously, Boxiecat folks, I urge you to think about getting this on store shelves so the price could be lowered exponentially, or to use another company/method of shipping that's more cost effective, or even to sell much larger packages of litter at one time [perhaps offer a 40 lb. bag instead of the measly 16 - especially considering it's the larger sizes that more people need delivered; I can carry home 16 lbs. but not 40!] Maybe use the largest Priority flat-rate box and fill 'er up with as much litter as it can hold if you reeeeally need to keep using USPS? Sadly, until any of that happens, I have to supplement my Boxiecat with cheaper and much less effective supermarket litter because my cat urinates like it's going out of style in her large luxurious roomy box and I simply cannot afford her indefinite $20-a-week litter habit.
EDITED TO ADD ON 8/31/12: The last two bags I purchased were VERY dusty. Kind of ridiculously so. Not even remotely close to the 99.9% dust-free claim, which sucks the big one because it wasn't this bad when I first started purchasing Boxiecat. That said, the clumping power still remains the best I've found so far.
EDITED TO ADD ON 7/15/13: So I had to taper off from using Boxiecat because, well, EXPENSIVE. I wanted to see if they ever started selling larger packages of litter or lowered prices and found they are finally selling directly on Amazon [when I first wrote my review, it was a 'sold on an external website only' deal simply being advertised here]. My jaw hit the floor when I saw it is currently being sold for $33.16 - STILL FOR ONLY 16 POUNDS OF LITTER. I know Amazon's prices regularly fluctuate so this won't always be the case but for the love of all that is holy, there is absolutely no reason to buy it for higher than what's listed on their official website where it's still expensive but at least not outrageously so.

I have had cats for over 30 years, and this is the best litter I have ever used, bar none. Sure, there's some dust when you pour it out; it's clay, people -- get real. But that's all the dust you'll see, and it's not much. It clumps firmly, does not leave sludge in the bottom of the box, tracks very little, and if you scoop regularly, controls odor better than anything I've used with no nasty perfume.
We have a small house, and I have a sharp sense of smell, so this matters a lot to me. I'm going to be just biting the bullet and buying this stuff. A bag lasts us over a month for two cats, scooping once a day. I used to use a corn-based litter, and my cats took to the Boxiecat right away; no transition problems at all.
8/14/13 update: Boxiecat is $32 on Amazon and $20 at Boxiecat.com -- the $20 includes delivery. I contacted both Amazon & Boxiecat about the price difference. Boxiecat replied; Amazon didn't. The deal is that Boxiecat doesn't set the price on Amazon; Amazon does. Boxiecat sells wholesale to Amazon, and Amazon marks it up. So, I'll probably buy Boxiecat again, but not through Amazon; I'd be willing to pay a couple of bucks more for the convenience of ordering through Amazon, but $12 more is ridiculous.
4/2/14 update: I just noticed that AmAzon has significantly lowered the price.-- yay!

Boxiecat is a wonderful surprise. I have a very finicky Bombay, Sassafrass, who will turn down ANYTHING inferior, and let you know about it. Due to physical and health problems with his feet and after searching for a non-pelletized paper litter for months, I found Boxiecat. This is the best clay litter I have found on the market. It does what it claims to do. It has no overwhelming perfumy scent, is virtually dust-free, and doesn't track all over the house. While Sass has never had an accident outside of his litterbox, with the addition of Boxiecat, he now doesn't 'wait' all day to go. I never had a cat use his box in front of me before, but now he has no qualms about doing what is natural.
The blessings of having it delivered to my front door on my own schedule is great. No more lugging heavy containers from the store to my car and upstairs into the house to Sassafrass' bathroom!
I am very glad to have found this product. I am also very glad to know that the support team at Boxiecat is friendly, efficient and personable in every way. They help you set up a delivery scheduled by your timetable, and are ready to send along additional shipments ASAP if needed.
This is a product that I will use and recommend for a very long time.

I've been searching for a replacement for my old standby Arm & Hammer unscented multi-cat scoopable litter, which recently has become unbearably dusty. It seems our entire household is sensitive to dust from cat litter, not surprisingly the cats themselves. My goal was to find hypoallergenic fragrance-free, dust-free clumping litter. We have five cats with eight litter boxes for them to choose from. I scoop the boxes daily and completely change out the litter once a month.
Here are six results in order of my preference, the first two coming in at a virtual tie! Notes: My cats use the first three brands relatively equally (Cat’s Pride, Boxiecat, Precious Cat). The first five brands clump well without crumbling, but I can’t vouch for the clumping quality of Fresh Step since our cats didn’t even get a chance to try it. Odor control was not a deciding factor for me in these selections.
Cat's Pride Fresh & Light Premium Clumping Fragrance Free
No fragrance, no dust, just right. Success! Fine texture. Advantage over others: exceptionally light weight, multi-color granules that make even the tiniest clumps of urine or fecal matter easy to detect and remove. The unique warm gray granule color is somehow extra appealing and clean looking to me. Featured on an episode of Must Love Cats. Definitely plan to buy again. (Note: I did not purchase this item on Amazon due to the high price here as of Jan. 2014.)
Boxiecat Premium Clumping Clay Cat Litter
Fragrance free, 99.999% dust free, very easy cleanup. Success! I noticed only a minuscule amount of dust in sunlight when removing clumps, but it wasn’t enough to trigger any allergic reaction. Fine texture. Advantage over others: clumps appear near the surface for relatively easy cleanup. Clumps do not end up stuck to the inside bottom of the litter box as in other clumping litters, which often require scraping and extra cleanup efforts. Cat Fancy Editor's Choice 2012 for Best Cat Product of the Year. Definitely plan to buy again.
Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter
Fragrance free, at least 99.9% dust free as claimed. My cats like it, but my personal preference is the finer texture of both Cat's Pride Fresh&Light and Boxiecat. And unlike the superior Boxiecat, clumps for Precious Cat often get stuck to the inside bottom surface of the litter box, even with the recommended three-inch depth. Still, this is a definite improvement over Arm & Hammer, not enough dust to trigger allergies, and I would consider buying it again if I hadn't already discovered Cat’s Pride and Boxiecat.
Purina Tidy Cats Instant Action
Slight fragrance and zero dust, but only one of my five cats chooses to use it. My oldest cat is the only one who will use Tidy Cats, which works out well since he doesn’t like sharing his litter box. The unique granules are large, smooth and rounded, so perhaps he likes the feel of this litter on his paws. Fortunately it is dust free and the fragrance is mild and pleasant, so I will continue to buy this brand to keep him happy.
Ever Clean Extra Strength Cat Litter with Carbon Plus, Unscented
Dusty enough to trigger sneezing when I scoop out the clumps; emits a subtle but sharp fragrance that causes a burning sensation in my nasal passages. The cats don't seem to mind using it, but I don't feel good about them breathing in the dust and the sharp odor and will not be buying it again.
Fresh Step Premium Scoopable Unscented Clumping Cat Litter Multiple Cat Strength
Extremely dusty, strong odor, triggers allergies. Cats didn’t get a chance to try it. This one turned out to be so dusty and emitted such a strong odor throughout the house, we had to remove the opened box from the house immediately. Triggered allergies for both my husband and me – coughing, headaches, burning sensation in eyes and nasal passages, sneezing. Definitely will not buy again.

I just added the litter to the box, we will see how the kitties adjust and how well it performs. A couple positives are that the litter wasn't too dusty and I like that it's unscented and not perfumed.
Now for the negative, the bag was horribly torn in the box (as shown in the photo) and there was a trail of litter from the sidewalk all the way to my door (seriously). For the price, it's unfortunate that I lost a good bit of litter.
4/24/15 Updated review:
Worst litter. Clumps of urine stuck to bottom of box, zero odor control. I scoop it everyday (two cats) and still come home to horrible odors.

I have 8 cats, all feral rescues. I have tried every litter on the market. When I heard about Boxiecat I ordered some and put it in one of my ten litter boxes, that was the only box my cats used!!! That is really cat approved! I love the home delivery and the product really works, I no longer have litter odors, it lasts so much longer than any litter ever and my kitties love it! It is a great product and very cost effective! I told my vet about it and she ordered some!

It works great!
It is ridiculously expensive on Amazon!
After trying out a couple of bags and comparing it to the Arm & Hammer Multi-Cat Strength Clumping Litter (Fresh Scent) and doing some simple math, here is what I found. The Boxiecat costs a little more than $0.14 per ounce through Amazon. The Arm & Hammer costs a little less than $0.03 per ounce locally (slightly more expensive through Amazon). The Boxie cat (by volume) lasts about 2 times longer than the Arm & Hammer. In other words, it takes almost 2 ounces ($.06) worth of Arm & Hammer to be as effective as 1 ounce ($0.14) of Boxiecat. So, the effective cost of the Boxiecat is more than twice that of the Arm & Hammer.
However, the price through Boxiecat directly is way, way, way, way less than Amazon. As of this review, it is a minimum of 44% less and even cheaper if you buy 2 or 3 bags at once. So, if you order Boxiecat directly and order 3 bags at a time, the effective cost is nearly identical.
My recommendation for those that are cat elitists and prefer to buy everything through Amazon is go for it. Boxiecat is great and you'll blow plenty of money on it.
For those that don't like to be wasteful with our money, order through Boxiecat directly or stick with what already works (assuming that it is cost effective for you).
Effectiveness: 5 Stars
Amazon Price: 1 Star (I would give it 0 stars if I could)
Rating: 3 Stars

I work with rescue, which means, I have a LOT of cats! My own and fosters. I am cleaning litter boxes constantly. Not only do I have rescues, I specialize in CH kitties (ones who have neurological difficulties). Some lay in the litter to use it. Some get the litter stuck to their bums and they digest it when cleaning themselves. ALL of them spread it around. I've tried so many litters to see which a) doesn't have anything but clay/natural products in it b) has no dust (I have a foster with asthma) c) is easier to clean d) doesn't scatter e) has no scent/controls odors and f) the cats are ok with.
This stuff has solved ALL my problems. I loved it so much, I got the rescue group to start using it for all our kitties. Not only do I love it, my cats love it. The boxes that have it in it are "used" more than any boxes with ANYTHING else. As good or better than Cat Attract! And much easier to clean. And delivered right to the door. No smell, no dust, low tracking, doesn't stick to the box, doesn't stick to the scoop, doesn't' stick to kitty bums, litter is clean after scooping.
I estimate that I use one bag/box every 2 weeks. I don't clean the box more than every two weeks, when I dump the remaining litter, clean the box and put a full bag in the box. And this is with a lot of cats. For one or two, it would probably last month or more. It is a bit pricey (about on par with Worlds' Best) but it's worth it.
Not only all of the above, but they donate to rescues! 20% of any customer purchases we send their way. That's a nice donation (We just found this out, so we are just beginning to take advantage of it!).

My 11 year old kitty started eliminating out of the box. After resolving the underlying medical issue, we needed to get him back in the box again! My vet recommended Boxiecat to replace the litter we had been using since he was a kitten, World's Best Cat Litter which is a corn-based litter, and very very dusty. After 1.5 days, my kitty transitioned himself completely from the floor :-( to his new litter in his chosen new location. He LOVES Boxiecat, digging in his box like he never has before. I LOVE Boxiecat because it is completely dust free, odorless, completely eliminates any urine smell even if I don't scoop right away, and the customer service is beyond anything I have ever experienced with a company before. I have been in customer service for nearly 40 years, so I know good service when I get it! I also love that it is delivered to my door and shipping is FREE! Thanks Josh and Boxiecat!

I have a multiple-cat household, and also work at a cat shelter. I have tried all kinds of litter over the years, but NOTHING can hold a candle to Boxiecat! This product is simply the best! It is truly dust free, but best of all, the odor control is amazing. There simply is no litterbox smell--ever--in my home since I started using this product. Additionally, the litter doesn't stick to my cats' paws--so no more tracking litter around the house, either! I have communicated back and forth a couple of times with the support team, and they are prompt, pro-active, and VERY nice and professional. All this, along with not having to lug buckets or bags of litter home from the store anymore make me a fan for life! I love Boxiecat!
