This was one of my favorite boxing games of the 16-bit era. Boxing fans will appreciate that this title has 8 great Middleweight boxers. This game features "Sugar" Ray Robinson, "Sugar" Ray Leonard, Rocky Graziano, Tommy "Hitman" Hearns, "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, James "Lights Out" Toney, "Hands of Stone" Roberto Duran, & "The Raging Bull" Jake LaMotta. What made this game unique is that this is the only game that I've seen that allows you to customize the amount of power your created boxer has in each punch. There are a couple of downsides to this game though: First every boxer is right handed (including your created boxers). Second, the created boxer options are limited. You can only choose from 2 different looks & only three skin shades. You can't customize the color of your trunks or determine if your nickname is a prefix, or a suffix. Its only in the middle. The Genesis version is good, but if you have a Super Nintendo & are trying to decide which version to get, then I would go with the SNES version. The Genesis version looks grainy & sounds aren't as clear. They removed the Michael Buffer-ish "Lets get ready to Rumble" from the start of the fight. The SNES version is clearer & sounds much better. Still the Genesis version is a great game for boxing enthusiasts.

I like Boxing better than Wrestling, infact I'm really into extreme sports like UFC! The only reason why I have this game, simply because I grew up watching Boxing with my family AND loved it. I remember my Parents, and Grandmother sitting by the edge of our seats watching "Sugar" RAY LEONARD & ROBERTO "Hands of Stone" DURAN duken it out like Gladiators! I also love Fighting Task games like Mortal Kombat, Super Street Fighter, and even FIGHTING MASTERS which was given to me as a gift. Plus, I have E.Holyfield's Boxing for my Game Gear version... Overall I give BOXING LEGENDS of the RING, B+.

An average boxing game.,

Definetely an average boxing game. Graphics are okay, but nothing spectacular. Gameplay is reasonably good, but nothing we haven't seen before. At a bargin price, it might be worth buying. However, it is squarely in the middle of a crowded pack, and is also dated.
