NOT The 1985 album,
This review is from: Boy in the Box (Greatest Hits Collection) (Audio CD)
Do not order this disc if you are looking for Corey Hart's 1985 album. This is a compilation disc with a few of his hits from most of his albums. It is totally deceptive to title this disc Boy In The Box.

Boy, I got boxed! - Beware: False Advertising!,

This review is from: Boy in the Box (Greatest Hits Collection) (Audio CD)
This is not Corey Hart's 1985 album!!!! Without a picture of the album cover and with "NO TRACK LISTING", there was almost no way to know that this was not his 1985 album. (Except for the small product description that I overlooked. It stated "Songs: Sunglass at Night, Boy in the box, In your soul, Never surrender, etc." Since, the 1985 album included the title track "Boy in the Box" and "Never Surrender", it alone wouldn't have raised that much of a red flag. This is a poor grade compilation disc with a few hits from several of his albums. All of the songs were included in the other "authorized" Hits packages. This looked like someone burned this CD from their home and made up the cover art. It is totally deceptive to title this disc "Boy In The Box". Since, I only spent about $8.00 to get this disc, I probably won't go thru all the trouble it would take to get my money back, but at least I can warn any other potential customers!

A BOY THAT ROCKS!,
By fabio-italy (milan, italy) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boy In The Box (Audio CD)
What makes truly great a songwriter? in my opinon it is the skill to write songs that appeal to people with a different background and with different atttudes, songs people can relate to...Well, Corey's style is definitely a far cry from Diane Warren's (another of my favourites): there are no rhymes here, or seldomly so. But the storytelling is so powerful one can't break away from its spell. It was 1985 and i was coming to terms with my being homosexual, not an easy step for a 14 years old kid, and then...BANG! i hear on the radio this song titled NEVER SURRENDER...the lyrics, the music, the harmony...i loved EVERYTHING about it. Then i come to find out it is by Corey and there's a full album set to be released. Useless to say that's the song that turned me into a faithful fan. The album is so much better than his first release. The songs are all equally powerful and appealing. Most of them are rock-influenced with a heavy use of synths and fairlights machines, and the result will blow you away. As well as NEVER SURRENDER, the other BIG ballad to me on the CD is EURASIAN EYES, pure poetry.... If you search for rock tracks, then BOY IN THE BOX and SILENT TALKING are your best bets, supported by wild-driven vocals of Corey. My favourite non-single track off the CD is the deliciously bouncy, pop tune WAITING FOR YOU, and if you are a hopeless romantic, well, just skip to EVERYTHING IN MY HEART and let yourself be engulfed in a love declaration in music. The guy showed how to grow more mature in the space of a couple of years, give him credit and buy this CD...you will like it....

The Best Ever Corey Hart Album,
By TANYA SHILSON (Australia) - See all my reviews

Boy In The Box is one of the most fantastic and enjoyable popalbums ever made.It is a perfect blend of guitar meeting synthesiserswith fantastic results. The title track is a fantastic pop song about screen legend James Dean that has a dark and powerful edge to it. After this first slice of pop bliss comes another in a similar vein.Corey screams out the orders to "shoot KOMRADE KIEV" on this track about the stupidity of the cold war. The synths, drums and guitar go wild on this track that should have been a single.Other tracks are skillfully written with brilliant lyrics and a musical mind trip that takes you on a journey. This album is a must for any pop music loving 80s fan or for someone new to Coreys music! END

* * * * HOPEFULLY THIS IS UPDATED BEFORE YOU READ THIS * * * *
This IS NOT the classic BOY IN THE BOX album as shown in the tracklistings in this description! I have submitted a complaint to Amazon to get this corrected. This here is a very, very poorly reproduced "Greatest Hits" album that was probably sold at gas stations or thrift stores! The tracklisting for this item is as follows: 1. Sunglasses at Night 2. Boy in the Box 3. It Ain't Enough 4. Dancin' In My Mirror 5. A Little Love 6. Everything In My Heart 7. I Am By Your Side 8. In Your Soul 9. Never Surrender 10. Can't Help Falling In Love Great music, but NOT what was described and poorly reproduced. I am very disappointed. :-(

A step above "First Offense".,

1985's "Boy In The Box" #20, is little harder edged over the first album. The first three songs are his best on this disc(MHO). "Boy In The Box", very electronic sounding got to #26, "Never Surrender" his biggest hit at #3,a very nice rocker-ballad and a tune I heard a bunch of on rock radio in '85 the classic russian tune "Komrade Kiev".
After those 3 songs, the album to me falls apart, very dated now days.

The Real Album,

There has been much contreversy over the actuality of this CD. This is indeed the actual Boy in the Box album. I have had this album since its vinyly days of release and I know the track listing like the back of my hand. This is the actual cover artwork, and the back artwork. I do mention, this is one of Corey's finest pieces. I am an avid fan to this date. If anyone is unfamiliar with his later works, check out these albums; Jade, and Attitude and Virtue. They are wonderful. Donny

Very Good Budget Corey Hart Compilation,
By
This review is from: Boy in the Box (Greatest Hits Collection) (Audio CD)
While I would agree this CD should not have been titled Boy In The Box to avoid confusion with the 1985 album, this is actually a very good collection of Corey Hart's hits. It contains the exact same tracks as The Best of Corey Hart (Capitol:2006) and The Best of Corey Hart (EMI Special Products:1998) and has 9 of the 15 tracks on Corey Hart: The Singles(Capitol:1992) which is probably the most complete collection of his 80's recordings. This CD was released by KRB/EMI Capital Special Markets and these are definitely the original versions of all of these hits and the sound quality is better than average for a budget compilation. Since the original Boy In The Box sells for $13.49 used and $99.98 new on Amazon, a buyer should realize that the price quoted was too good to be true for that CD. The best defense again deceptive marketing is a well-informed customer. Do your homework before you buy.

A Synth Lover's Paradise!,

This review is from: Boy In The Box (Audio CD)
"Boy In The Box", Corey Hart's sophomoric effort, is a step up from his previous release "First Offense". It is on this album where Corey delves deeper into his introspective songwriting capabiities, with many of the lyrics being more biting and insightful than on Corey's previous effort. This insight is well-scoped out in such tracks as "Silent Talking" and "Water From The Moon". Two of the songs on "Box" feature a Latin flair - those being the album's title track and "Sunny Place, Shady People". A very tender ballad is featured in "Eurasian Eyes", with wonderful lyrical and musical content, which is brilliantly played to the hilt. The star ballads on "Box" belong to both of the album's singles "Never Surrender", a song about searching for lost love and having the courage to make your own choices in the face of adversity, and "Everything In My Heart", a powerful soul-grabbing number. "Komrade Kiev" deals with the cut-throat pressures of the Cold War in a serious manner, while "Waiting For You" is absolutely fun. With so many good songs to pick and choose from, "Boy In The Box" is one CD you'll definitely want to have in your collection. It is only available as an import title, as are a majority of Corey's CD's. Get it, before it's boxed up for good!

Great Canadian Pop Rock Legend,
By susumu-5 (Japan) - See all my reviews

Boy In The Box is absolutely the masterpiece representing his career. Never Surrender is his biggest hit in the U.S. so far. Boy In The Box, Eurasian Eyes show his Eurobeat mainstream pop rock allure. If you like 80s pop rock why not add Corey Hart in your collection? Of course Survivor fans can enjoy.
