5.0 out of 5 stars Boy did i get a wrong number
This is one tangled mess of a movie! Bob Hope stars as husband, father and real estate agent Tom Meade whose life is about to be disrupted by more than just his wacky housekeeper. Enter the Divine Didi, an ultra sexy film star played by Elke Sommer. Fed up with starring in films with lots of bubbles but no plot she escapes to a nearby hotel, a wanted woman...

1.0 out of 5 stars Yes, movies were this bad back in the 60's.
If you think the movies they are making today are bad, watch this one and you will soon understand that they have made bad movies for years. Horrible acting, dumb jokes, and a lame script. It's true, Bob Hope really was a pretty bad actor and his jokes were as cornball as an episode of Hee Haw. Now Elke Summer- easy on the eyes, so she almost redeems the picture. But...

This is one tangled mess of a movie! Bob Hope stars as husband, father and real estate agent Tom Meade whose life is about to be disrupted by more than just his wacky housekeeper. Enter the Divine Didi, an ultra sexy film star played by Elke Sommer. Fed up with starring in films with lots of bubbles but no plot she escapes to a nearby hotel, a wanted woman. After Tom Meade tries to phone his wife at the beauty parlor, and accidentally gets through to Didi's hotel room instead, he'll wish he had gotten a busy signal. Will Mr. Tom Meade come to the aid of the starving Didi who hasn't had anything to eat in one whole day? You Stars Wars fans will have a mad laugh at this one. And so the plot thickens...ending with what I believe to be the longest car chase in movie history. If your looking for nuttiness and some hilarious comic relief between Hope and Diller, this one should not be put on hold.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF OUR FAVORITE "GUILTY PLEASURES", September 4, 1999

THIS MID-'60'S FARCE PLAYS LIKE A SIT-COM: LUCKLESS REALTOR HOPE GETS HIS WIRES CROSSED AND WINDS UP ACCUSED OF MURDERING BLONDE BOMBSHELL SOMMER. HILARIOUS WISECRACKING DIALOG BETWEEN HOPE AND DILLER KEEPS THIS FILM ROLLING. IF FOR NOTHING ELSE, WATCH FOR THE OUTRAGEOUSLY HUGE HAIRSTYLES SPORTED BY SOMMER AND CO-STAR MARJORIE LORD. ALSO RECOMMENDED: "EIGHT ON THE LAM" WITH BOB HOPE, PHYLLIS DILLER, & JONATHON WINTERS.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "real" comedy., February 22, 2006
This review is from: Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The first time I saw this movie I was nine years old with my family at the M&T Drive-In.....having seen it again I can attest it is still in my Top 10 of all time favorite movies. Phyllis Diller and Bob Hope are the perfect comedy team. This was when movies were created to entertain...instead of today's "remake" of added digitally enhanced gore, crude language, and sex. There is no nudity in this flick, but it has sexy implication comedy (that you can watch with your Mother and "actual" comedy due to Hope & Diller. If you are over 40...this will take you back to the time of real fun. If you are under 40...you have to see what you missed, but, (please) just laugh and enjoy it and don't get obsessed that there is no trilogy or that it doesn't have a societal message that will bring on world peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bob Hope And Phyllis Diller At Their Crazy Best In Fast Moving Comic Romp, April 26, 2007
By

This review is from: Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The three Bob Hope/Phyllis Diller comedies made in the mid 1960's, ie "Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number", "Eight On The Lam", and "The Private Navy Of Sgt. O'Farrell", despite being blasted by the "critics", have always been great favourites of mine since I was a child. The crazy duo of Hope and Diller at first glance might appear mismatched as screen personalities however in their movies together they always manage to produce comic magic in my belief. As a clear sign of the very real chemistry between the pair you only have to witness any scene they share in this particular film to see the screen literally light up, as they go through their verbal and physical highjinks together. Never a romantic couple on screen their main trademark was an hilarious banter sprinkled with critical barbs that were ping ponged back and forward between them. Their first effort together in 1966's "Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number", is my favourite of their three films and is a fun filled crazy romp filled with hilarious lines, innocent (for nowadays) sexual innuendo, great physical comedy performed by both Hope and Diller, with all ending up in the expected zany car chase that seemingly no 1960's comedy could be without. Bob Hope was a shrewd manager of his career and clearly saw how movies were changing by the mid 1960's and obviously realised how attuned Phyllis Diller's broad style of comedy and wisecracking was with the comic films of that decade. She was a natural for films such as "Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number", and she has a comic field day here as the unorthodox (of course!) housekeeper Lily, trading insults with Hope, listening in to private phone conversations while registering hilarious facial expressions, riding a motorbike, and doing great physical stunts involving her "household duties".

Never to be taken seriously for one moment, films such as "Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number", are sadly nowadays largely a thing of the past. I doubt very much whether Bob Hope's quipping and one liners and Phyllis Diller's crazy antics would find an appreciative audience among today's jaded younger movie goers but they are still good for the soul in these depressing times. A total escape is what many of us often look for in movies and "Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number", made just before the close of the age of movie innocence is still guaranteed to lift your spirits and definately tickle the funny bone. Enjoy!

I review an item for what it should be, in my opinion. This is a lighthearted comedy with Bob Hope delivering his type of understated lines and Phyllis Diller providing the over the top laughs. If you like other Bob Hope movies then you will like this one as well, if you care more for Jerry Lewis, Jim Carrey type comedy then you probably will be bored with this film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yes, movies were this bad back in the 60's., January 3, 2011

It's true, Bob Hope really was a pretty bad actor and his jokes were as cornball as an episode of Hee Haw. Now Elke Summer- easy on the eyes, so she almost redeems the picture. But not quite. Oh, and did I tell you the sound is in mono, lol. Another interesting point taken away from this movie is you see where 2 1/2 men got it's ideas from and where Charlie Sheen got his comedic style from- Bob Hope. Even the housekeeper that doesn't do anything except put down jokes and handing him another drink.
