5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect ghost story perfectly illustrated, July 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I first came upon this lovely little story in the form of a video tape from Rabbit Ears about 25 years ago. My kids loved it and wore out the tape. I wanted to find it again for my granddaughter, but the book is just as good. The illustrations are hauntingly beautiful and the story has just the right blend of sadness, humor, curiosity and terror. Everyone in our family gets a frisson when we remember the mother's advice: "Avoid large places at night. Keep to small." And it has a happy ending! what more could you ask. Written from a legend of the childhood of the great medieval ink painter Sesshu.
