Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 1–While Mother is puzzled when her son wakes up with an animal on his head, he isn't perturbed. In fact, the creature lets her know that "you can do anything with a bunny on your head." And so the fanciful story goes. The bunny explains that "peanut butter can be spread" and "books can be read with a bunny on your head." Only pale blue and yellow color the spare line drawings, yet they go a long way in embellishing this quirky and imaginative tale. The large font emphasizes the white space. On the final page, the boy's sister enters, sporting her own animal. An amusing picture book that warrants repeated readings.– Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA

This wonderful story is sure to be a classic for schools and libraries across the country! Pre-School, Kindergarten and First Grade Teachers will find this story a true new classic, useful for developing humor and creativity in even the most resistant child. Imagine doing all of the activities teachers have done with IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE, and your mind can soar from there. The ideas are endless, just like the older sister coming in with with an alligator on her head. This story begs "What else?" questions. "What else could he (or you) do with a bunny on his (your) head? What else could be on his head, his mother's head, his teacher's head, etc." Children can practice writing and computer skills utilizing this book, do art and math work, social studies, etc. Take it from me, a recently retired teacher and elementary school librarian, kids will LOVE this story. It's absolutely charming and I highly recommend it!

I found this book today and I totally love it! It is a rhyming story about a boy who wakes up to find a bunny on his head and how he is still capable of doing anything he sets his mind on. This book is great for younger kids. The words are big and there are not too many words on a page, and the story is pretty simple and short. It is silly and humorous and sure to cause a case of the giggles. The illustrations are clean, simple, and adorable. I bought this book for a friend of mine who is having a children's book shower. The story reminds me of an old favorite book from my childhood, Imogene's Antlers. Instead of waking up with antlers on the head, it's a bunny!

My daughter received this book as an Easter present and it has quickly become her favorite book! The story is sweet and creative and the illustrations are fun and amusing! The book's simple premise of "You can do anything...with a bunny on your head!" takes us all on a journey of imagination and adventure. From riding on mopeds to exploring seabeds, this is a terrific book for young and old. We've now made a family game of coming up with new ideas of what we'd all do if "Fred" were on our head...Highly recommend it!!! It's my Mother's Day present to all my friends with young children!

This is an adorable book that is quirky and inspiring with a premise that "You can do anything... with a bunny on your head!" My grandson absolutely loves the story and pictures! The illustrations (line drawings in yellow and blue) are simple but very effective. I have added a video so you can get an idea of the interior. A Boy and His Bunny is a must-have for (grand)parents and teachers of kids in the preschool through first-grade age group. You will read and reread this book to your kids time and time again!

I have finally read the prequel and sequel to A Girl and Her Gator by Sean Bryan and Tom Murphy. Having read the entire trilogy (perhaps with more to come), I feel like my life is complete. These are some of my most favorite picture books of all time.

The genius started in 2005 with A Boy and His Bunny when a boy woke up with a bunny on his head. Boy and Bunny decided to roll with it. Stranger things had probably happened somewhere so why get upset over something so minor?

Boy's mother (I call him this because unlike the other series characters, the original Boy has no name although he does take the time to name Bunny Fred) was less adaptible.

You know, I hate to tell you, but it's got to be said. You have a great big bunny on your head!

This launches a lecture from both Boy and Fred on how rabbits peacefully coexisting on one's head in no way limits one's mobility or ability. You could read a book, lead an army, indeed even ride a bobsled with a bunny on your head. Thus enlightened, the mother recants and admits that Fred does look kind of cool on her son's head.

Her opinion was immediately thrown into question, however, when Boy's sister walked in with a small alligator on her head. (You will of course recognize my beloved Claire and Pierre from A Girl and Her Gator.)

I like these books because they are simple yet complex. The story is written and rhyme and could arguably be seen as a commentary on tolerance and the fact that different does not mean diminished. At the same time, the illustrations are presented on clean (usually white backgrounds) which makes them pop.

In terms of reading aloud, the book is large enough that the minimalist illustrations can be seen clearly.

This book is fantastic. My son loves it! We borrowed it from the library 4 times in a row so I finally came online to buy it for him. He walks around my house saying Oui Oui French can be said....

It's a must read every night before bed.

This book is a great favorite among my library story time groups - it's
funny and imaginative and elicits a lot of giggles and guffaws. I give
each child a picture of a bunny to hold over his or her own head while
I read the story. They love it. I wanted to buy a copy for my grandson,
but - I can't believe it - this award-winning book is permanently out of stock!
What's wrong with publishers??
