Book Description

October 1, 1999
From the dates-from-hell to love-at-first-sight, Boy Meets Boy is the ultimate rumination about romance, dating, and/or sex for the modern gay man. This collection of observations, anecdotes, essays, wishful thinking, and out-and-out lies celebrates and bemoans all the experiences that collectively compose that mixed blessing called "dating." Ranging in tone from cute and romantic to bitchy and hilarious, with contributions from Matthew Rettenmund, Barry Lowe, Michael Lassell, D. Travers Scott, David Feinberg, Kerry Bashford, and Larry Duplechan, Boy Meets Boy is touching, amusing, heartwarming, and laugh-out-loud funny as it memorializes (and viciously mocks) the absurd situations, embarrassing moments, and the (all-too-rare) limerance that occurs when...well...boy meets boy.

About the Author

As he writes this biographical note, Lawrence Schimel is the author or editor of twenty-seven books, and happens to also be twenty-seven years old. As he commented in a recent interview, he neither smokes nor drinks although he does have his vices-namely boys and a sweet tooth; presumably, if he had different vices, he would have published fewer books.

He is the author of the short story collections The Drag Queen of Elfland and His Tongue and the editor of numerous anthologies, including The Mammoth Book of Gay Erotica, PoMoSexuals, Challenging Assumptions About Gender and Sexuality (with Carol Queen; lambda Literary Award winner), Switch Hitters: Lesbians Write Gay Male Erotica and Gay Men Write Lesbian Erotica (with Carol Queen), Two Hearts Desire: Gay Couples on Their Love (with Michael Lassell), Food for Life and Other Dish, and Kosher Meat. His stories, essays, and poetry have been included in more than 150 anthologies, among others: Best Gay Erotica 1997 and 1998, The Mammoth Book of Gay Short Stories, Gay Love Poetry, The Mammoth Book of Fairy Tales, The Random House Book of Science Fiction Stories, and The Random House Treasury of Light Verse. He has also contributed to numerous periodicals, from The Saturday Evening Post to Physics Today to Gay Scotland. His writings have been published abroad in Catalan, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish translations.

He currently divides his time between his native New York City and Madrid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuinely hilarious and sexy to boot, November 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Boy Meets Boy (Paperback)
I laughed (a lot), I sighed (a lot) and after I finished this hilarious book of war stories from the dating game, I just wanted to dive right back into the dating pool. Anybody who thinks that dating stories can't be funny and sexy at the same time should check this book out and see how it's done.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of laughs!, December 30, 1999
This review is from: Boy Meets Boy (Paperback)
This book was really excellent. I picked it up because I'm a fan of Schimel's other work, and I found it to be lighthearted, fun, and FUNNY. All the stories kept me entertained, especially Schimel's own "Tom, Dick or Harry." I want to give this as a gift to lots of my friends because I think they'd also enjoy it. If you're looking for amusement and a bit of wry humor, this book is for you!

You ought to buy the book for this story, "Skin Deep", alone. All the stories are great, but this one is a classic!
