Great story of adventure, survival, and perseverance.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this story about Tao, the Cro-Magnon boy with a twisted foot. It is an inspiring account of primitive man, and shows how he moved from superstition and magic to common sense and knowledge. Tao is determined to draw and paint like a Chosen One and the revered Graybeard even though he is an orphan, and this is taboo. He also befriends a wolf and hunts in the forbidden lands which his clan considers evil even though it means he must live alone, away from his people. Denzel has written a great Stone Age story for middle schoolers with lots of action and suspense.

Best action and adventure book written about the stone age,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
Boy of the painted cave is the best book in the world because of the action and story plot. The plot is about an orphan named Tao born with a messed up leg.He loves to cave paint but painting in secretcy. To be a cave painter you have to be son of a shaman or a hunter. Because he doesn't know who his father is he can't be a cave painter. To solve this problem he finds a wolfdog and hunt with.Tao finds the mysterious Greybeard; the official cave painter and teaches Tao to be a better cave painter and pass down the name cave painter down to Tao before he dies. The action keeps you reading although the setting is in the stone age. When Tao meets the wolfdog the action begins. Volt the tribal leader is the antagonist of the story and is totally against Tao.

AS HE SETS OUT TO PAINT IN THE SECRET CAVERNS OF THE MOUNTAIN PEOPLE, TAO DISCOVERS THAT THEY ARE VICTIMS OF A CRAZY SHAMAN, ZUGOR, THAT MAKES THEM LIVE UNDER THE THREATS THAT HE WILL PUT SOME CURSESON THEM. TAO FINDS OUT ABOUT A BLIND GIRL AND THREE ORPHANS THAT ZUGOR KEEPS IN A CAVE BECAUSE ZUGOR SAYS THEY ARE SUPPOSSEDLY PASSED BY DEMONS. TAO DOES NOT BELIEVE THIS IS RIGHT AND THAT IS THE BEGINING OF THIS INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE. TAO DOES THE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIGHT FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES IN. TAO FIGHTS RIVERS, BEARS, LIONS, RHINOS AND HE ALSO FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE AND FOR OTHER LIVES TOO. TAO SEES THINGS THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEM AND GOES TO PLACES HE NEVER THOUGH OF GOING TO. THE AUTHOR JUSTIN DENZEL MAKES THE STORY TO THE POINT WHERE ANYONE CAN GET LITERALY ADDICTED INTO READINGEVERY CHAPTER OF THE BOOK TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS. JUSTIN DENZEL MAKES TAO A MAGNICIAN, WERE HE CAN CREATE LIFE OUT OF FINE, APAINTIER AND A SAFARI EXPERT. I REALLY LIKED THIS BOOK BECAUSE ITS HOWA LOT OF SUSPENSE, SO THE READER JUST HAS TO KEEP ONGOING . WHAT EVER YOU AGE MAY BE IF THERE IS A CHANCE, I RECOMMEND ANY ONE TO READ THIS BOOK.

Ryan's book review of, The Boy of The Painted Cave,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a clan? Hunting gathering and the like? Well then, The Boy of The Painted Cave, a pre-historic fiction by Justin Denzel is just the story for you.
The story takes place about 5-10,000 B.P. in a pre-historic clan, the main character is Tao, who is an outcast form the clan because of his deformed foot finds the true meaning of adventure along with a few twists and turns, Graybeard, an old shaman that teaches Tao the true meaning of cave painting (secretly, for it is taboo), Ram a wolf-dog who befriends Tao and helps him hunt, and Volt the clan leader who hates wolf dogs and doesn't trust Tao either. I'm going to make this plain and simple, "I couldn't put the book down!" the vocabulary was so advanced, just the whole plot was so cool! I highly recommend this book to ANYONE!!!

Jordyn's Boy of the Painted Cave book review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
Do you know what it feels like to want to do something, but you aren't allowed to? Well if you haven't, Justin Denzel's book the Boy of the Painted Cave will show you exactly what it feels like.
Twenty thousand years ago in Southern France a young boy named Tao, wants to become The Chosen One. The Chosen One is allowed to wander throughout the many clans and is the only person to paint in the secret cave. Tao's only hope to become The Chosen One is to be born into the family of a shaman or a leader. Tao's family is neither one. His mother died soon after Tao was born and his father supposedly left after her death. Even though Tao is forbidden to paint he does, knowing that if he is caught he will be killed. Then one day Graybeard, The Chosen One catches Tao painting! The Boy of the Painted Cave is a great book. All of the hardships that Tao faces seem impossible, but he pulls through every time! I would definitely recommend this historical fiction book.

Short But Enjoyable,
By Sir Furboy (Aberystwyth, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
This short book follows Tao, the stone age boy with a limp who bucks tradition by daring to wish to be a cave painter (at which he has a real gift) rather than a hunter (at which he is very poor, until he enlists the help of a wolf-dog he befriends - and that just causes more problems). The book is an enchanting look at the ancient european cave painting hunter-gatherers of some 18,000 years ago. But it is also a book that speaks to anyone anywhere. Sometimes "this is the way it has always been" is just not a good enough answer for doing something the same way now, and Tao learns that those who dare to dream may sometimes be rewarded. This is a children's book. It is short and sweet and could be read by any child from the age of about 7 up. It lacks the tension of a good young adult title, so teens will perhaps stay away from this book, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Annelise's Book Reveiw of Boy of the Painted Cave,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
Do you believe that dreams can come true, if you do you will love Boy Of The Painted Cave by Justin Denzel. You want to be a cave painter, but everyone in your Cro-Magnon clan doesn't know your talent for art. Even worse, you are not supposed to paint unless you're a chosen one. You are Tao boy of the valley clan.
Eighteen to twenty thousand years ago BCE, in a huge valley, Tao lives with his family in France. Tao's role is that he is a courageous boy who wants to become a cave painter. Graybeard is an old man who is about 30 years old and helps Tao improve his cave paintings and encourage him. Ram is a another friend of Tao's and is a wolf dog. Ram helps Tao hunt for himself and the clan. The book "Boy Of The Painted Cave", is an outstanding novel because it is a very realistic story of a boy struggling to be something he dreams of. It's one of those books that make your muscles tighten and the hair stick up on the back of your neck as you read this tale. Will Tao ever become a cave painter?

Boy in the Painted Cave review, mr. Africano's class,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Boy of the Painted Cave (Paperback)
Boy in the Painted Cave was an awsome book to read. I thought the book was great because of details. My favorite parts were when Tao was in the sacred cave painting and the hunters found him and also when Tao battled Saxton the sacred bull. In this story I think the author was to predictible with the outcome. The author gave you to many clues that were obvious which made it easy to predict the outcome. Overall I think the book was great.
