3.0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad...
I just bought this book yesterday because I saw all the good reviews about it. After reading the first volume, I thought its pretty interesting. Later on, I found the manga online so I read it. When I began to read volume 2, it was getting boring and kind of weird for me. I don't know if it is my taste in yaoi manga or it is the book. I thought the storyline wasn't strong...

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected., September 3, 2006
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I originally read this story off the Netcomics.com website. Boy Princess is one of the most unique romance tales I've read in a long time and I mean "unique" in a good way. Volume 1 begins the tale of Nicole, a young boy prince forced by a freak set of circumstances to impersonate his sister Princess Elena and marry a foreign prince to maintain peace between two nations. There's no doubt about it, this novel is definitely aimed at a certain market. For those with an open mind, you'll find in Boy Princess, Volume 1, a very new twist on medieval-era romance. This story will appeal to those who like Romance, Comedy and Drama. Make no mistake, there are Action sequences, but that's not really the main focus here. The writer has a very easy style to read and the interaction/relationship between the two princes is very well thought-out. I found myself enjoying the story a lot more than I had expected. Boy Princess, Volume 1 has a certain charm that sneaks up on you and before you know it, you find yourself very curious about what's going to happen next in later volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The cutest shonen-ai title!, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
If you are a shonen-ai fan, you just gotta read this.
The book's unique drawings first caught my eyes and the plotline was the second thing that interested me. This book is about a teenage boy (Prince Nicole) falling in love with an older guy (Prince Jed) not even know that he is. The naive boy gets married to another guy! only to save his kingdom. Why? his sister runs away with some poor guy just a few days before her arranged marriage is to take place!
I'm not the biggest shonen-ai book fan but I give Boy Princess two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised at how good it was!, November 19, 2006
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
For a long time, I didn't bother picking up this title because of all the negative reviews it got. But one day, I was browsing through Barnes & Noble and though "what the heck." Well, needles to say, I was surprised at how GOOD it was. I mean, I had to suppress my laughter, and was thoroughly enjoying myself (amid all other readers). The art seemed, roughly put, ugly at first, but after getting into the story, I got so used to it that I began to see the beauty of the characters. From a distance, it's still a little sour to the eye, but the story really makes up for it. Take it from someone who is just about the pickiest buyer ever, this is worth to get. I might not keep it in my collection, but I definitely don't regret buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars I crown thee. . .Prince(ess) of all shonen-ai, February 22, 2006
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I love this book it's not only about love but the angst that goes with it. Prince Nicole is forced to be the wife of the neighboring kingdom's prince. All because his sister decides to elope with a stable hand sheesh! Anyway Prince Jed is now his husband and things get interesting let me tell you. Although Jed seems it be rough with his barbaric strength and cold piercing eyes he does however have a weakness and he is. . .well you know not that mean. Nicole is a bit on the childish side but very easy to love. Though young and unyeilding to many a things Nicole finds himself yeilding to Jed in more than one way. Jed on the other hand has this constant battle within evertime he get close to Nicole's lips. Jed and Nicole may be the oddest of couples but if love has got something to with then opposites do attract. Oh I can't wait to read Vol.2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Princess and the Pauper, Yaoi Style, May 15, 2006
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This book is light, with very little sexual drama, but the premise is sweet and touching. The mangaka draws beautifully, and lights up each page with small twists and sincere emotion. This series is a definate romance series, with a few humourous moments intertwined.

Book two was slightly a let down, but book 3 definately made up for it! (at this time, 3 has not been released in stores) I have a feeling that book 4 (which is supposed to be the final book in this series) will bring plenty of action and interaction between the two adorable and lovable characters, Jed and Nicole.

This series is a definate must for those that love romantic yaoi.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like candy, August 30, 2007

This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I don't know why I like this so much. Yes, the artwork is stylized and may be an aquired taste for some readers. Sure, there are many more visually polished titles around. And it also might lack some of the juicier love scenes found in the Japanese-counter parts of the boy's love universe.

But dispite all this, Boy Princess is fast becoming one of my favorite boy's love stories. The rough but elegant line work is reminiscent of older titles. The visuals will put the reader at ease, somewhat like a home-cooked meal. The main character is enjoyable, lovable, and worth rooting for. The plot unfolds to at a nice pace, not too quick and without insane horrific plot twists like I've read elsewhere.

The romance is only budding, innocent, and sweet so far - after all, it must go slow to span accross so many volumes. Like any good fantasy/romance about royalty, Boy Princess includes it's fair share of political intrigue and family betrayal. There's always something to keep it interesting.

Overall this is something good if you want a long romance to sink your heart into. It's a great title for those who are just getting into Boy's Love and do not yet want to dive into the more graphic stuff. It's also great for boy's love veterans who have a craving for something pretty and light.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have more!, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I love the gothic artwork. Large eyes, dark lips, pouting princes in women's clothing. It's gorgeous.

The story starts out pretty humorously with Nicole having to take his sisters place and masquerade as Prince Jed's bride, which leads to plenty of hilarity and awkwardness in it's own right. But, the plot thickens when Prince Jed discovers Nicole's secret and, interestingly, only seems to be more intrigued by his new 'bride.' Though he becomes stand-offish because he feels guilty about his feelings. Nicole's angst over the apparent distance between himself and Jed is just adorable. It's delightful to watch these characters develop feeling for each other as they don't quite knowing what they mean or what to do about their emotions.

I'm definitely getting the next book in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tale Worth Reading, January 22, 2007
By
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Have you ever wanted to Run away because your parents tried to make you do something? Maybe you haven't but in Boy Princess, the real Princess has run away the eve before meeting her fiance. With two kingdoms uniting for peace through the marriage, it leaves everyone in a sticky situation. Their only solution is Nicole the youngest brother who is the spitting image of his sister....

That is how Boy Princess Begins. I know it's easy to say... "I see where this is going". But it's not so easy. Nicole is young. He has no idea what the world has in store for him, as a matter of fact, he is isn't attracted to guys! He questions it constantly.... so the story has a nice pace to it in the romance department. There is no waking up a few pages in to have Nicole say 'ohhhhh that guy has a nice chest' (teee heee.)

Boy Princess lets the story develop. There are twists and turns and not all of it focuses on Romance. There is political intrigue, Fantasy, parental issues.... this story packs alot in, without leaving you feeling like you have a huge question mark on the top of your head like this: ?____?

If you like Series (this one spans 9 novels) and you like Manga/Manhwa with detailed clothing, and you like something with a little more twists and turns in the plot, then I would recommend this you. It has a few wrist grab and kiss scenes which gives Fan service to those who need it, Nice dialog between characters, and it also keeps some mystery almost to the last novel!

To preview this title you can click here on Amazon or, go to the publishers site.

Parting words: Sweet story... a much needed change from the usual run of the mill...white-haired boy with black-haired boy routine. Take a break from the ordinary and give boy princess a try

5.0 out of 5 stars fun and unexpected, July 12, 2009
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
The concept itself is hilarious to start out with. Engagements to princes or the modern day version of heirs to major firms are common in the shojo genre. But this is the first story I have ever come across where a boy gets drawn into the mix instead. The author also refuses to keep things simple, and just when you think you're about to settle down to a cutsey romance, there is another turn in the plot. The characters' emotions are realistically portrayed, and the characters are simply too complex to fall headlong into a relationship without considering the consequences. Or, if they are, the world they live in is too complex for things to work themselves out. The plot is also rife with intrigue and politics, to which love takes a back seat. The constant insertion of back story gives the sense of the story opening up both before and behind you, gradually illuminating the world in all directions. I'm only up to Volume 4, but I'm sincerely looking forward to seeing how the story progresses in the next five books.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Drama Begins, January 2, 2007
This review is from: Boy Princess Vol. 1 (Paperback)
PLOT: Ah, what's to say about this quirky, strange storyline?

Prince Nicole, the youngest prince in his small kindgom, is forced to act as Princess Elena, who eloped days before her arranged marriage with another, powerful kindgom. Basically, a guy dressing up as a girl. Sounds pretty perverted? Think again. This problem of Nicole's is not simply used as an excuse to get two hot princes 'married' to each other. Rather, there's a whole, intricate storyline alongside the romance. Besides the two lovers, there are many other characters that contribute to the devious, treacherous lifestyle of the royal family.

Boy Princess definetly does not fall short on plot like so many other BL's do. Of course, what BL is complete without a few hilarious scenarios? My favorite would be Nicole and Jed's river make-out scene near the end xDD.

ART: As this is manwha, not manga, you will see some differences. I've had people ridicule Boy Princess because of it's 'ugly' art.

"Wow, those guys don't look like guys at all! They barely look like girls!"

Yeah. A simple sideffect of non-appreciative people looking at this unique art style. I, being a fan of art and open to many styles, saw the beauty in it almost immediantly. The first few pages might need some getting used to, but anyone who doesn't completely shun unique art is bound to fall in love with the art in Boy Princess.

Some have complained that many characters look the same, especially with Nicole and Elena, being siblings (as Nicole is quite pretty and can be compared to his sister). Well, of course they look alike. How else could Nicole pose as her? But even when Nicole is dressed up as a girl, you can see that Elena is far more feminine-looking. You can even tell with their clothes. Elena's facial expressions are also pretty different from her brother's, usually very calm and sweet, while Nicole looks conflicted, confused, and easily annoyed.

BTW, the costumes are absolutely stunning. It adds all the more to the old, midieval vibe.

This is one of my favorite manwhas/mangas, and I recommend it to everyone who loves BL and shounen-ai.
