1.0 out of 5 stars Trite commercial for Sea World, October 7, 2003
By
Kevin Costello (Fairfax, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Boy and the Whale: A Christmas Fairy Tale (Hardcover)
While this purports to be a Christmas story, it is in fact a veiled commercial for Sea World. God does play into Christmas, as an instrument to fulfill a child's pure wish to meet a whale whom he (surprise surprise!) names Shamu. The artist is an award-winning Sea World poster painter who cannot draw children. The story is drawn out to justify many pictures of Shamu, but ends with a trite tale of a star falling to get kid and Shamu together, which then ends up on the Christmas tree. The Star of Bethlehem becomes the Star of Shamu.
