No more cramps in my hands.
Barbara A. Binseel
It increases the contact surface the rubber washer has with the handle, and stops it from twisting around or coming loose!
Crystallyne
This little handle solved the problem, I don't grip as tightly, and my hands don't ache.

I have large hands and a firm grip, so any time I spend crocheting usually ends with a cramp or a sore middle finger. I bought a pack of the Comfort Grip sleeves but they were a little too firm for my liking and tended to migrate up the hook as I worked. The Susan Bates Comfort Cushion was far more comfortable on my middle finger, but the end of the hook would still get pressed uncomfortably into my palm. The Boye Hook Handle was the perfect solution.

The handle itself is a non-slippery rubber, and the egg shape fits the hand quite naturally, so I don't feel like I need such a tight grip. It's solid, not flimsy - yet still not so heavy as to be distracting. The design is simple enough that it could be modified to accommodate small steel hooks, as described in another review.

All in all, this is a must-have for a hooker.

I have small hands and crochet very tightly. Previously my baby finger would cramp from wrapping around the tiny hooks, and my wrist would get stiff & sore after long periods, but much worse, I developed a tightening and inflammation of the tendon in my thumb, just before Christmas. I now have a constant ache in the thumb and heel of my hand, and I can no longer straighten my thumb or apply any real pressure without severe pain. I can't write for longer than a signature, open jars, lift plates, use a needle & thread or use a traditional crochet hook....until Santa's Crafting Elves gave me 2 of these handles. They're kind of ugly and the rubber attracts dust and has an odd feel to it, but they've taken all the pressure off my thumb and keep it in a comfortable rounded position. When manipulating a tight stitch, the force comes from my whole fist, rather than the tip of a hyper-extended thumb. The extended portion even keeps my baby finger more loosely wrapped and despite doing more crochet, my wrist hasn't been stiff for months.

The handle has not improved my thumb problem, but it allows me to continue crocheting comfortably, despite the thumb. My physiotherapist agrees that it is the best crochet solution he's seen, says he'll likely recommend it to other patients, and forbids me to crochet without it.

The gadget itself uses little rubber plugs to adapt it to nearly any aluminum hook size, and it can handle any standard brand with a thumb-rest wider than the rest of the handle. I don't find that the rubber plugs hold the hooks as snuggly as I would like however. They keep the hook from wobbling or falling out of the handle, but they often permit the hook to spin inside once pressure has loosened the slight seal it makes with the opening.

I bought my handle at my local Hobby Lobby for the same price (less shipping of course)... I have been crocheting for 26years now and let me tell you, before I bought this nifty little handle I use to only be able to crochet for about 30mins before my hand would start to cramp up (death grip on the hook), then I would have to take about an hour break before I could feel my hand again to start back up (pain in the backside if your working on larger projects)... I have only had this handle for 4days now and I have started and finished a 20"x14"x3" tote bag with 8 pockets(before the handle it would have taken me weeks to finish)... It is very comfortable to grip (the handle has a soft rubber feel to it)... My only recommendation is BE VERY CAREFUL when opening the package and SAVE THE BACK COLOR CODE CHART for the washers (they are not marked on the washers themselves just on the color code on the back of the package) Be careful when twisting it apart after, all it is only plastic and would probably break if twisted to much or to forceful. Hope this helps everyone out... I'm going back to crochet something else now.... Happy Hooking!!!

I had given up crocheting for the past 5 years because the pain it caused for days after I did it for just one night. I use to love sitting in front of the TV or listening to music and crocheting baby blankets, booties and other items. I rediscovered my love for crocheting last year when I started to make hats, unfortunately the pain that accompanied it made it just a seasonal craft (Christmas for gifts) When I came across this handle I told my husband I wanted it for Christmas. He ordered it and told me to start using it right away. It has been a life saver for my hands! They no longer hurt after doing just a couple of rows, there is no lingering pain in my hands and there is no uncomfortable cramping of my middle finger. I have crocheted almost every night since I received this item in the mail and cannot be any more satisfied with a product. My hands and my sanity are saved!!

I had read the other reviews and thought that this would be great for my hand. I have a degenerative condition that makes it hard to grip small items like crochet hooks at times. So I though that this would be great. It might be good but it is made out of such cheep plastic that the first time I went to use it, it broke. You turn it and pull it apart to insert the hook, the small plastic parts that are to hold it together broke when I pulled it apart. I was not rough with it either, I was gentle. I will not buy another one, I will look for a different product to help my hands.
