More About the Author

Katherine Applegate's many books include the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter book series, the picture book The Buffalo Storm, and the award-winning novel Home of the Brave. With her husband, Michael Grant, she wrote the hugely popular series Animorphs, which has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide.

Katherine was inspired to write The One and Only Ivan after reading about the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, the Shopping Mall Gorilla. The real Ivan lived alone in a tiny cage for twenty-seven years at a shopping mall before being moved to Zoo Atlanta after a public outcry. He is now a beloved celebrity at the zoo, which houses the nation's largest collection of western lowland gorillas. Ivan is well known for his paintings, which he "signs" with a thumb-print.

Katherine lives in California with her husband and two children.

This review is from: The Boyfriend Mix-Up (Disney's the Little Mermaid) (Paperback)
Plot Synopis: Attina has never really been interested in boys before, but her sisters note one day that she is attracted to a boy at the library. There are two boys who look just alike working there; however, their personalities are nowhere near the same. Adella and the others decide Attina is interested in the outgoing party boy and scheme to hook her up with him. But at the same time, her real love interest goes after Adella instead! The girls must find a way to get Attina and the real boy of her dreams together without hurting anyone.

Like all of the books in this particular novel series, the story focuses on all of the sisters equally, which is what attracted me to this book in the first place. I am a HUGE fan of Ariel's six older sisters. There are pretty black and white illustrations placed throughout the book. The story itself is easy enough for kids to understand, but adults will enjoy reading it too; I certainly did. It's a lot of fun--I've read it over countless times! I recommend this book series to any Little Mermaid fan.
