Editorial Reviews

True love has never been more confusing or more hilarious! Fabulous funnyman Steve Guttenberg (Police Academy, Three Men and a Baby) teams with Jami Gertz (Sibling Rivalry) and Golden GlobeÂ(r) winners Shelley Long ("Cheers") and Kyle MacLachlan ("Twin Peaks") in a laugh-riot comedy of passion, romance and mistaken identity! Painfully boring Gus Kubicek (Guttenberg) isn't exactly ladies' man materialat least not until his meddling romance writer sister (Long) gets hold of him. Soon he's the buff and bronzed main character in the romantic fantasies of his dream girl, Emily. Trouble is, Gus can't tell if Emily really loves him or just his sexy, leather-clad alter ego!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dont tell her it's the original title - or she wont find it!, March 5, 2005
By
This review is from: The Boyfriend School (DVD)
I loved this gentle romantic comedy. I have seen comments that Steve Guttenberg wasnt 'man enough' for the part - must have been written by a straight male reviewer as he's just right for it. There are some really amusing bits to this and it qualifies for the 'comedy' description. Shelly Long is excellent too.

However I add to others comments questioning the change of title. I have borrowed this several times from DVD outlets under its old name and had just about given up hope of finding it on DVD for myself -as I was looking under the old title. What are the distributors playing at - don't they want to sell movies?

It's ironic really that the movie is 'Dont tell her it's me'. Perhaps it should have been 'Dont tell her it's 'Dont tell her it's me': tell her its 'Boyfiend school'!

So as you seem to have tracked this item down in its hidden guise I'd jump at the chance and risk it if you havent seen it! Even though it is a great 'chick flick' I've watched it with males who quite enjoyed it too.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Boyfriend Club, July 10, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Boyfriend School (DVD)
This is one of my favorite movies, as it is funny and entertaining. It is more of what they call a chick flick, but the men in my family have also enjoyed it. Why they changed the name from "Don't Tell Her It's Me" to "The Boyfriend Club" when they made the DVD I don't know, but they are the same movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, Funny, Great!, April 28, 2000
This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It has got to be one of the most underrated comedies ever. Shelly Long plays a romance novel writer who decides to give her brother a makeover, to help him win the girl of his dreams. What results is Steve Guttenberg as an Austrian biker called "Lobo". The dialogue in this movie is hilarious, and the casting couldn't have been better. I hope this movie is re-printed. The video store I used to rent it from, lost the movie in a flood, and now I can't find it anywhere. For anyone who has the chance to see this movie, do, you will not be disappointed.
