Yo...Keisha is my home-girl when it comes to Thug Love novels. I love this one just as I loved Chyna Black. I especially couldn't help wondering if I, too, could find me a dude named Black. All I can say is this book will keep you satisfied and interested until the ending. Any novel I can read straight through without putting down is nothing but a Five Star book. Trust you will not be disappointed.
Love, Peace, and Good Reading!

Very in to the urban book era, this book was very enjoyful and unlike some readers I actually paid attention to the dates of the writer, which is where I see people got confused on age and times or whatnot. I would definitely recommend this book to other urban book readers

Sorry I had to do this but I was so frustrated with this book! At the beginning of the story we were told Meesa was 19, a couple of pages later she was 22! Black was 26 then he miraculously turned 28 right before our eyes! WTF? As if that weren't enough there were times when they were, for example, going to the movies- one sentence was "Let's go to the movies" & then the very next sentence was "I didn't like that movie". Dialogue was all ran together & at times you couldn't even tell who was talking. And the punctuation was all jacked up! I mean, come on. I'm willing to overlook a few typos but a whole book full? All I'm saying is that if we can spend our hard earned money on a book then the least Triple Crown can do is learn how to edit! No offense, Keisha Irvin, but I'm glad I read Chyna Black first or else I may not have given you another chance. The storyline was rather drawn out and predictable on this one but I can tell that your writing has really grown with Chyna Black. TCP, hire some new editors & fire the ones you have now!

Stop playing keisha,
This review is from: Me & My Boyfriend (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
This book was okay. The typos were horrible. The plot kept changing her age kept changing sometimes I thought I was reading two or three different books. She met a guy named Mike in an earlier chapter then met him all over again in another. Black hit her in one chapter then three or four chapters later they go back to the morning after he hit her. This book made me want to take the binding off and resequence the book. I am very upset with triple crown for throwing this mess together without proper revisions.

The moment I saw the cover of this book, I knew it was going to be good. It seemed like Ervin put me in the middle of it. She made the characters seem real and the story was realistic. Although the way Black treated Meesa in the beginning was a little harsh, I'm glad they got together in the end.

Good Debut Novel,
This review is from: Me & My Boyfriend (Triple Crown Publications Presents) (Paperback)
Like so many of the other reviewers, I found "Me And My Boyfriend" to be a good read. I enjoyed this book so much because although it's marketed as a "street novel" it's really just a good old fashioned love story. Many women can relate to the falling in love, losing yourself, getting your heart broken aspects of relationships which makes this story so appealing. Ms. Ervin made you sympathize with the characters while her vivid descriptions of the St. Louis area is sure to make those residents proud. Another exceptional part of this book is the meeting between Black and his father. I thought this was one of the most touching and realistic moments I've read in any fiction. The language you used in that conversation was on point and really had me rooting for Black from that moment on.
Unfortunately I can only give 4 stars and not 5 because of a few missteps. One being Daryl. I thought his character was very realistic up until the faceoff with Black. Please tell me how he came out of that? This scene could have been handled much differently if he was going to be a key part of the ending. Also, Meesa's relationship with Mike, it seemed like they had two first meetings. When Mike's true identity was revealed, his actions and Meesa's reaction didn't make sense. I know this is fiction but the Daryl and Mike characters could have been tighter. Also, on numerous occasions Ms. Ervin places parentheses around the characters' thoughts. Doing this shows that you underestimate your reader as well as your own writing ability. In a storyline that flows you'll never need to resort to such an amateurish trick and I'm quite surprised your editor allowed you to do this. Just trust your writing and trust your reader to pick up on your character's thoughts. Judging from the positive feedback, your fans got what you were trying to say, and I'm guessing they didn't need those parentheses to get what your were saying. I really did enjoy this book and have to say that I started reading thinking it was going to be horrible since TCP is notorious for typos and grammatical errors in their books. This book had minimal errors and was actually a quick read. Good luck in the future Ms. Ervin, I look forward to reading the improvement in your writing with your second novel "Chyna Black". |
