Book Description

April 19, 2011
Lance has always known he was gay, but he's never had a real boyfriend. Sergio is bisexual, but his only real relationship was with a girl. When the two of them meet, they have an instant connection--but will it be enough to overcome their differences?

Allie's been in a relationship with a guy for the last two years--but when she meets Kimiko, she can't get her out of her mind. Does this mean she's gay? Does it mean she's bi? Kimiko, falling hard for Allie, and finding it impossible to believe that a gorgeous girl like Allie would be into her, is willing to stick around and help Allie figure it out.

Boyfriends with Girlfriends is Alex Sanchez at his best, writing with a sensitive hand to portray four very real teens striving to find their places in the world--and with each other.

More About the Author

I'm an immigrant, born in Mexico City. My family moved to the U.S. when I was five. I always loved writing, but had a hard time finishing projects.

It wasn't until I reached out for the help of some friends that I was able to complete my first novel, RAINBOW BOYS. Life lesson: seek out people who believe in you and will help build your confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boyfriends and Girlfriends April 28, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I'm not going to beat around the bush: I love Alex Sanchez books. Ever since I read Rainbow Boys in high school, I felt that his books truly captured the essence of the teen LGBT experience in today's American society. But something always felt like it was missing to me, until now. His new book, Boyfriends with Girlfriends, is the first time that a lesbian relationship is at the forefront of one of his books, and it is beautiful.

There are 4 main charater: Sergio and Kimiko, Lance and Allie. We first join the stories when the 2 groups are meeting for the first time. The attraction is instant on both sides, with both couples. The problems are that Lance doesn't understand Sergio's bisexuality, and that Allie is straight...right?

The book tackles the often misunderstood concept of bisexuality in terms of someone who already accepts the label and someone who is just starting to question their sexuality. Both romances are sweet and slightly angsty (in the way that all teenage romances seem to be), however I found the slow development of Allie and Kimiko's romance the most fascinating. As a young bisexual woman who has never been in a relationship (much less with another woman), I enjoyed seeing someone else in my situation in print. It was also nice to the character I connected too so much get a happy ending.

This book is a very quick read, something that you can knock out in just a couple of hours. I was so into the story, that I couldn't put it down. Don't go into expecting too much as it is still a teenage romance, but I do think it comes off as more original and realistic than most of the teenage heterosexual romances. If you are interested in reading a short, sweet, and happy LGBT romance, I highly recommend this book, as well as the other books written by Alex Sanchez.

5.0 out of 5 stars Job Well Done! June 14, 2011
By dkmcd
Format:Hardcover
Boyfriends and Girlfriends is another job well done by Alex Sanchez. About time bisexulaity is discussed in a young adult GLBT title. Honest, thought-provoking book by Sanchez who always sets the bar so high for other authors of young adult fiction. He is the one the others should emulate.

For critics who wanted more action, what do you want a 500 page novel? This book had enough action. Too many books overdo it and end up dragggggggging along far too slowly to the end.
