Book Description

April 1999
"Dave Barry is no longer the funniest man in America."

Jim Watkins, Author, Speaker, Newspaper Columnist

[book title]

"Dave Meurer is purely and simply a comic genius. He finds humor in everything he does and everywhere he goes and brings us along for the ride. As a new father, I found it to be one of the most genuinely funny books I've ever read."

Phil Midling

Editor and Publisher of The Clarion

"Very funny stuff! This is a great 'guy' book even if you're not a guy. The ballistic diaper chapter alone is well worth the price. One word of caution: Do not attempt to read while drinking milk (unless you enjoy snorting milk out your nose)."

Laura Jensen Walker

Author of Dated Jekyll, Married Hyde and Love Handles for the Romantically Impaired

"-hilarious. I laughed out loud throughout the book. But Dave Meurer is not just funny. He's insightful and clever in the way he takes simple, real experiences and translates them into meaningful reflections on parenthood. Parenting is serious business. And perhaps because it is so serious, we need to take it a little less seriously and enjoy the ride."

Timothy R. Holler,

Assistant Professor of Psychology, Crichton College

"Raising boys and being a Christian go together like gasoline and matches. What a blast! Fortunately, Dave Meurer can get you out alive, laughing, and even a little smarter."

David Kopp

Father of four sons, Senior Editor of Christian Parenting Today, and coauthor of Praying the Bible for Your Children

Every Harried Parent Needs an Industrial-Sized

Dose of Laughter, and Dave Meurer Provides It.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Dave Meurer is the father of two boys and was, according to rumor, once a boy himself. Raised as the third of his parents' five kids, Dave got an early taste of family. Now his childhood experiences and his time as the father of two teenage boys have been written in his outrageously funny book, Boyhood Daze. Less a parenting guide--of which he feels there are too many-- than an industrial sized dose of laughter, Boyhood Daze is for all harried parents who need to know they are not alone as they tackle the enormous task of raising boys.

When his is not engaged in dispensing sound parental advice (such as, "TURN THAT MUSIC DOWN!"), Dave works for the United States House of Representatives as an aide to a Californian Congressman. He received a dual degree from California State University, Chico, in Political Science and Information and Communication Studies and he currently serves as a liaison to state and local elected officials as well as to the general public. He travels extensively through the district spending much of his time on many complex and controversial issues.

Dave finds that humor writing provides a valuable emotional outlet at the end of the day. The ability to laugh at himself, at wry observations he makes about family life not only keeps him sane but translates to the page without losing a chuckle.

A talented writer whose humor columns and other articles may be found in the Clarion and various northern California newspapers, Dave has won numerous writing awards and honors, including the top scholarships from the California Newspaper Publishers Association, the Gannet Foundation, and the Laymen's National Bible Association.

Boyhood Daze is his first book. Married since 1981 to his wife, Dale, and father to two boys, Dave decided to write a book about the adventure of raising boys, which he has termed "a multiyear, monumental battle to simply get them to eat zucchini, not to mention mold them into mature and responsible Christian husband and father material." Although Dave employs a great deal of satire and cutting-edge humor, Boyhood Daze is woven through and through with the message that parenthood is a real blessing from God, filled with fun and learning.

The entire Meurer family makes their home in Northern California.

I am the mother of a red headed 5 year old boy. I read this book over the weekend. This book helped me to laugh at the struggles of raising boys and enjoy what makes boys different and special. The author weaves in a Christian theme. The book is worth the price. It was a help to realize all this bliss of raising a son will not go away anytime soon.

Within three minutes of getting into this book, you will be laughing so hard you will risk falling off your couch or out of bed. If you have boys, you will totally, totally, totally relate to every word. This is incredibly funny material.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for fathers and sons... and anyone who needs a laugh., September 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Boyhood Daze: An Incomplete Guide to Raising Boys (Paperback)
Meurer manages to find ways to laugh at the strangest things, without ever laughing AT other people. OK, ALMOST never. After his adventures in parenthood, it's amazing he had the energy left to write this book but he did, and his love for his family shows through the laughter. What can he do for an encore?

I note with great interest that when God made the first human being, Adam, He created him as a complete adult and thus totally bypassed diapers, colic, toddlerhood, adolescence, and driving lessons. Read the first page
