3.0 out of 5 stars Decent for target shooting or short range, but not for serious airsoft play
I've had this rifle for about 2 months and I'm relatively satisfied with it. However, this is by no means a gun for serious airsoft play. First off, the FPS is pretty low. It only is rated to shoot at ~260fps with .12g BBs. If your playing backyard games, or just shooting targets with this gun, that shouldn't be too big of a deal. However, if you are looking for something...

The assembling at first may seem to be confusing but.. don't panic at first because thats what I did and trust me, it spoils the fun and inticipation of recieving the gun. this is very important, THE BATTERY GOES INSIDE THE FAKE RIS SYSTEM. thats extremely important because at first I studied the weapon for hours trying to figure out how the battery fits inside the barrel (because the stupid instructions suck and they dont tell you that you only put the battery in the barrel for the fatter barrel skin). I am so glad that I read another review like this after I bought the gun (and that review is for this same gun) because it saved me so much panic. THANK YOU MARIA IF THAT IS WHO U R FOR UR INFORMATIVE REVIEW. but anyway, I can't explain to you how much this gun is worth, all I can say is buy it, or never kno what awesome realistic action ur missing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gun! VERY accurate! Is very sturdy and heavy., October 22, 2006
A Kid's Review
This gun arrived fairly quickly, and works wonderfully! The adjustable hop-up is great, and the gun is very heavy and shoots very fast. I haven't tried the grenade launcher yet, and the second stock,(which holds bb's), doesn't fit but my dad is going to fix it for me. The iinstructions suck though. I tried doing the sling but it ended up looking like a black ribbon all twisted and knotted. And the directions said nothing aobut the second stock holding bb's, but I'd seen a review on another site that said it did and i had to find out how it worked myself. Except for the terrible instructions, the gun is great. It is very accurate and a wonderful gun for bigginers or experienced players. But be ready to find out how to do it yourself if you want to use some of the accessories. But I definetly recommend this gun, and it comes with a whole lot of extra stuff. And the high cap mag. is great I just didn't know how to use it but you pour bb's into the area where you open the black sliding door and when you need more bb's you turn the wheel at the bottom and bb's from the reservoir are pulled into the place where they go into the gun. And both of the mags are mostly metal. This gun feels very sturdy and is great for the price.

This review is from: Boyi M4 M16 Grenade Electric Airsoft Rifle LPEG (Misc.)
The title pretty much says it all. You get a LOT of nifty little extra's with this rifle.
Let me start out by just describing the rifle itself. It has a great feel to it, very realistic (I should know being a 4 year combat infantry veteran). Good balance and great accuracy. One thing you have to consider is the type of ammo you are using. Ive found that it works best with .20 BB's. dont just buy cheap .12 BB's, they work allright i guess but after about 15 meters they really curve. go with the .20 and adjust your hop up correctly and you can get great accuracy out to 40 or 50 meters on a good day with no wind.
The grenade launcher (styled after the M203 40mm grenade launcher) is also decent with .20 BB's, the .12s will not be accurate at all. Its basically an underbarrel shotgun that only fires one round at a time. But remember, the grenade launcher is NOT your main weapon. I only use it as a backup in case i run out of ammo.
Ive read a LOT of extremely negative reviews about this gun saying how cheap it is and how easily it breaks. Just remember that its plastic, treat it with care. Ive seen a couple friends smack their AEG's into trees, bunkers, the ground diving into the prone, and I just cringe. When I was in the army I didn't treat my REAL M-4 like that, why you would expect a plastic replica to be that durable escapes me entirely.
Ive also read extremely negative reviews about the included hi-cap magazine (NOT CALLED A CLIP!!! IT IS A MAGAZINE!!!). Its not that hard people. You load the BB's into the mag, wind it till you hear it click, then you fire and be aware that after 50 or so rounds you may have to wind it again.
Overal, this gun has performed flawlessly for me and my little brother. Oh, I forgot to mention that I bought two didnt I? One for me and one for my little brother and neither of us has had anything but an extremely good experience with it.
Not to mention the included sling, pistol grip, and shoulder stock are all great extra's.
I give this rifle a 5 out of 5, it performs well, looks great, and with the right ammo is about as accurate as you can expect an airsoft rifle to be. Now stop reading reviews and buy this weapon already!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Over all good gun, August 2, 2006
Well the Hicap mag doesnt work but i herd that already so just keep that in mind the grenade launcher isn't all that great either, i don't see myself using it that often so definitely don't buy this for the grenade launcher, but the gun looks great, its heavy on the hands which is good, gives it a more realistic feel, the regular 50 mag works fine and the power is amazing (compared to my last gun) its definitely at least 300fps (.12g bb's). Its a little tough putting some stuff together but it didn't take me to long, recommend you buying more Mags with it

4.0 out of 5 stars very good but..., December 26, 2006
This review is from: Boyi M4 M16 Grenade Electric Airsoft Rifle LPEG (Misc.)
The gun for starters is awesome. It is by far the best gun I have ever owned shoots fast, hard, and it is sturdy.. now about that grenade launcher it is terrible the thing for starters shoots only 1 bullet at a time and u need to chock every shot. personally I think it is a waste of plastic (which it is made of) the rest of the gun is almost all metal. plus the grenade launcher broke the first day I got it. back to the gun...It is a very good deal so I would find the gun by its self with out the grenade launcher so it saves you about $30 thanks for reading

*Warning! I'm gonna get lengthy with this review so that you can make a legitimate decision before carelessly throwing caution, and money, to the wind.*

So far I've had this gun for about a week or so but I bought it off some guy on craigslist. It's not bad really, considering that it's an LPEG [Low Power Electric Gun]. However, it is a DBoys/BoyI gun and made in China. I'm not trying to be racist or anything, but there has been a lot of people saying that Chinese models aren't reliable and that they tend to break easier. In some cases, I say it's true since I do own a spring rifle that's made in China, it feels like i can snap it in half [I'm scrawny...] and it sounds like one day, just one cock of the lever would bust this thing open or if shot, the gun would explode in my face. But the upside is, it's nice for snipering and pretty accurate with it's long barrel.
It says it shoots 260fps with .12 bb's, but I get the feeling it shoots a bit upwards of 280fps, then again, I only used it once in heavy combat [Dirt field with some friends...yeah, we're pretty hardcore] and I'm still reviewing it myself. I suggest, though, for bringing out it's potential [if not all], use .2 bb's. The heavier weight combined with this gun's adjustable hop-up is beautiful. Now on to the pros, cons, blah blah blahs. NEVER NEVER NEVER overcharge the battery. NEVER NEVER NEVER do it over night. Why? It lessens the power of the battery. If you're gonna do small skirmishes, just charge it for about 30 minutes to an hour, or just feel it if it's hot or if you think it's overheated.
Big battles? Leave that to the pros...I'm not one of them.

Pros:
+ Cheap and affordable = You get what you pay for, right? This airsoft is worthy of a starter. If you're wanting to get into the sport or slowly creeping your way back [like I am] you should definitely grab this one. It's not really a good idea to blow off your money on something you would just prefer as a hobby, something to kill time with, or if you just don't think it's your sport after trying it yourself and then in the end, kicking yourself to no end because you blew off $100 or more that really could've been used for something more important or because you were on a really tight budget. I don't know what clone this is of [maybe Tokyo Marui] but that just means you can upgrade it [or fix if needed] with parts from popular brands like Tokyo Marui, Classic Army, etc. Just...which brand clone this thing is before you do...IF it's a brand clone.
+ Powerful and accurate for a LPEG w/ adjustable hop-up = Low Power? This gun has a plastic version 2 gearbox [assuming the same with my airsoft] and, yeah, plastic gearboxes aren't the best. But this stings and shoots hard at a nice distance. I can't really say the distance because I'm...not so good with that. But if i were to estimate, I'd say you can hit a target [with hop-up] of up to more than 40ft. "MORE THAN" I should stress. Maybe more than 50ft...60...maybe even more? Anyways, two of my friends thought it was unfair with me using this airsoft rifle, so they teamed up on me. But with this rifle, I was able to keep them at bay for a decent amount time to reload. Man, I'm already in love with this gun.
+ The Goodies =D = fifty freakin' dollars!? [55 maybe with shipping and handling and blah blah blah] that's a steal! well sorta. But I mean, you get two clips: 1 standard & 1 hi-cap, 2 butt stocks [lol i said "butt"], a speed loader [some don't even come with one], two grips: 1 standard CQB [close quarters battle] and a RIS [Rail interface system...blah something like that] foregrip that you can attach that nice vertical grip onto or other aftermarket goodies you buy some other place, and a nice, pump-action grenade launcher. Shoot, I saw this exact airsoft on Evike.com and THEY sell it for $65 [70 with shipping, maybe] and Airsplat sells it for $60-$65. This is a steal, really. I kind of wished that this came with a dual clamp to hold both mags at once. I managed to make a makeshift clamp, though I don't think I should call "pieces of rolled up cardboard stuck inbetween the mags wrapped in electric tape" a clamp. But it works =D [hazzah for haphazard ingenuity!] The carrying handle also has a fully adjustable sight and is detachable so you can mount a scope or whatever you like on it...like a scope =D.
+ ABS plastic and metal parts = like all other airsoft guns, this rifle uses ABS plastic for it's casing and gearbox. ABS is a durable plastic that can withstand a beatdown, but of course, to some extent before breaking. But it's durable with proper care so don't go abusing this gun, tossing it around and such and then complaining that "It broke when I threw it against the ground. THIS GUN SUX!" Of course you dumb***! You THREW it against the ground! -.- The barrel, however is made of metal and so are the clips...i think and i do believe some of the inner mechanisms are metal, I haven't checked yet because I'm not so steady with my hands and on top of that, I really wouldn't know what I was doing if I did open it. I can't really tell if they're metal or just plastic that gets cold really quick. But that shouldn't matter if you're taking care of the airsoft like it were your baby.

Cons:
- ABS Plastic Gearbox = If anything, this is what you should know first. Because it's an automatic, the gearbox will, of course, experience stress. But because this gearbox is plastic, the more stress you put on it, the more likely it will break. [no brainer, right?] What is suggested to do is to not to empty the clip [especially your hi-capacity [hi-cap] in one go, but to do burst fires, a short pull of the trigger to shoot 3 to, oh let's say, 5 shots is enough. Besides, you want to save ammunition, especially in an open field. And because the pump [or whatever drives the bb outward] pivots back and forth, the overbearing oscillation will most definitely destroy your gearbox. So don't go Rambo. [and yes, i'm trying to sound smart...DON'T JUDGE ME! -.-] Metal Gearboxes will last you longer and most definitely up your fps. That's one reason why you see so many of them over $100.
- Grenade launcher = I was hoping it wouldn't be like this, but it's a one cock, one shot, shotgun style grenade launcher. It's not that accurate and it only holds about 7-10 bb's. It's not the powerful either. But, it's decent for a last resort in a confined space. However, I believe this is only good for looks and I wouldn't use it in actual combat. I'm just planning to get me an electric MP5 with a metal gearbox for a subweapon. The grenade launcher adds unnecessary weight to the front end and slows me down.
- Fitting the battery = It's a hassle...I get pissed trying to fit this thing inside the standard grip and the grenade launcher. What I didn't mention previously is the grenade launcher has a nice little compartment with a relay inside that travels to the top of the launcher and can connect to the main relay attached to the fuse. [ugh...you know what i mean...] the reason being is that it's a hassle getting that stupid battery inside that compartment without spreading the nose open a little and then covering it back up. GAH! i get pissed just thinking about it. Also, what i didn't mention either was the little fake tactical light that acts as a external carrying case for the battery. You use this with you're using the RIS foregrip since the grip does not have any space within itself to carry the battery. I just think it's lame that it's not a real light =[.
- Mag Spill-overs = what I mean by that, besides it's a term I like to use [only because I don't know if anyone else uses a term like that...stupid right?], is some bb's leave your mag, but don't even make it into the reciever, leaving you to lose at least 3-4 bb's when you reload. Pretty much when you think you're out of ammo and you're just about to reload, bb's fall out and you're like "WTFBBQ!?" It's not so much of a big deal, but I hate to let those go to waste.
- Hop-up = I think I may have experienced this but I've read testimonials about this problem. Apparently, if you set the hop-up all the way up or all the way off, this causes the gun to shoot blanks [bb's just won't leave your gun.] An easy way to beat this is just to set the hop-up just a tad before it's fully up and vise versa.

These are just small problems that nothing more than tender love and care, and maybe a few rolls of electric tape and some ingenuity, can take care of. The bigger problems I have yet to experience.

All in all, this gun is worth the buy. It's a steal, really but only for those who are on a budget, just want to have friendly skirmishes, or are actually thinking about getting into the sport and looking for a decent starter at an affordable price.
In the end, this is my opinion, my review. Take it, learn from it, and do more studying. I hope this lengthy review was worth your time =D.

....FLAME SHIELD UP!!! [just a precaution...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive, March 8, 2007
This gun is exceptional. It is 1:1 to the real M4A1 and the weight seems to be distributed evenly. It shoots very fast and hard and is very accurate with the correct hop up. I was camping at 65 meters away from one of my friends and aimed at him in the head. I fired a short burst, and the BBs hit dead center at his ear. He didn't get hurt though. The construction in very sturdy, and the metal barrel holds up very well.

This gun has 2 problems. One is that the high capacity magazine is utterly useless. It wouldn't work for the gun and it's hard to operate. But the standard magazine is pretty good so I don't really have to worry about ammo. Another problem in the grenade launcher. I took it outside to have a test fire alone (not attached to the gun) and the BB shot 8 feet before dropping to the ground. I guess this is a weapon of last resort, but I never had put it on and I never will. Maybe I have a defective launcher, but still. I have a sidearm to use so I don't need it.

This gun would've gotten full score if it wasn't for the grenade launcher (which probably cost me $15-20) and high capacity magazine. But the gun is great and I recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent for target shooting or short range, but not for serious airsoft play, February 12, 2009

This review is from: Boyi M4 M16 Grenade Electric Airsoft Rifle LPEG (Misc.)
However, if you are looking for something to go out and play in milsim or other serious arisoft events, this gun will be drastically underpowered compared to the Classic Army, Tokyo Mauri, or other more expensive airsoft guns.

Also, I had an issue with mine that I needed to fix. The barrel was wobbling. Upon inspection, I noticed that the metal barrel was slightly smaller than the plastic holding it in place. I took the gun apart and added some electrical tape to the barrel in that area to make it nice and snug.

One other thing, the gun doesn't disassemble the same as other M4 airsoft guns. Unlike the common M4 disassemble approach, you don't push out pins and hinge open the receiver. Instead, the receiver is just made of 2 halves of plastic. You must find all the screws connecting the 2 and then you can take them apart (some screws are hidden). It is something that you must just figure out on your own because there aren't any online guides for it.

Here is my breakdown:

Pluses:
-Inexpensive
-Lots of accessories
-Tokyo Mauri compatible magazines and other parts
-comes with everything you need
-looks pretty cool
-decently accurate at short to medium range
-RIS system

Minuses:
-A lot of the accessories aren't worth using (grenade launcher in particular)
-Not very powerful (260fps with .12g BBs)
-High-Cap magazine sometimes misfires for me.
-My barrel had a wobble that I had to fix.
-gearbox and gears are all plastic
-The vertical hand grip didn't fit on the RIS (I had to scrape off material to make it fit)
-The standard adjustable stock is difficult to adjust. The crane stock isn't however.

Overall: 3/5

While this gun isn't horrible, if you are looking to start into serious airsoft you should look for something else. A JG/echo1/GB M4 can be had for around $110-$150 and would be a better option. However, if you are just looking for something to run around the back yard with some friends, or something to practice shooting targets, then this might be right for you.
