I love birch beer, but I'm a diabetic. So this product fills a nice little niche for me. It tastes good, if a little thin. More to the point, it's sweetened with Splenda, which means you can drink it worry free if you have concerns about aspartame.
The only reason it got 4 stars is that the total cost of the product + shipping is somewhat high.

I couldn't believe it when I found a bottle of diet birch beer made with Splenda in a little grocery store while on vacation. I bought it because I missed the real thing so badly that I didn't care if it tasted terrible. I just wanted the nostalgia of childhood memories and that birchy taste.
I took a cautious sip and was shocked. It was GOOD! This was the last thing I was prepared for. I ran back to the store and bought the only other bottle of it they had. The birch and vanilla flavors work well together. It has the familiar bite I was looking for but without the sugar. I'm used to the taste of Splenda so I can't really say how much it permeates the flavor. There was no nasty aftertaste, though. My only gripe is that I would prefer it to have more carbonation. It goes flat very quickly. I don't think I'll have to worry about this too much, though. It doesn't sit around long after I open it. |
