Great live folk album,

This review is from: Boys, Flowers, Miles (Audio CD)
I had no idea what to expect upon first hearing this album. I had never even heard of the artist. I enjoyed it so much that played it several times all the way through from start to finish before bothering to change the cd and making phone calls to inquire about the artist. If you like good folk music, you'll like this album. If you like to see folk artists perform in in a small coffee house atmosphere, you'll love this album. Antje speaks to the audience between songs, sharing some of the stories behind the lyrics. It's just like being at a table at Club Passim a few feet from the stage.

Her best CD - simple acoustics, lovely voice, great lyrics,
This review is from: Boys, Flowers, Miles (Audio CD)
I have all Antje's CD's. This is my favourite.Spare guitar backing that enables her voice to command the performance. Very intimate, personal song-style and the talks are very funny and innocent. She took some of these songs to make "Big Dream Boulevarde, which is better recorded but spoiled because the backing musicians dominate the the great voice and emotional sound. Sweet voice, can go high and be a little husky. Great lyrics. I'm an old folkey - my son is into expressive modern rock - we both love this CD. I love her - MORE PLEASE OF THIS STYLE ANTJE!!

Nice mix of folk rock, politics, jokes and songs about pigs sung in German. Fantastic voice, excellent songwriting. I hear she's recording a new album with Seamus Egan from Solas as producer. Can't wait.

Folk music with modern lyrics,
This review is from: Boys, Flowers, Miles (Audio CD)
Antije's music is essentially folk, with clear resonate lyrics and stories explaining them, and few synthesized instruments. Her voice is unique and gorgeous, clear and soaring on high notes, and just a bit husky on low ones. Her lyrics are interesting, touching on deep and good things, but have surprisingly modern twists even in an essentially folk style song: she'll talk about movies or buses alongside a song with almost sonnet like qualities. This album particularly has a song about Judas which brings the listener sharp stabs of pity for him. Both her albums are incredibly worth buying.

This is one of my favorite albums. It is done before a live audience and Antje is talented, funny and will make you laugh and still be touched by the music she sings.

With All the Sand That Gets Inside This World...,
By Kelly Langston-Smith (Atomic City, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boys, Flowers, Miles (Audio CD)
Antje is the kind of rare musical discovery you find all too seldom and treasure greatly. Sure, most of her music could be classified as folk or soft rock or even, in a few cases, mellow country, but, like most fantastic artists, if you really think about it, you find that she is unpeggable. This is a set of live songs in an intimate setting interspersed with anecdotes and stories that really ground the music. She has a hunorous and hesitant way of speaking that really draws you in. And the children's song about a pig she does in German is so charming that it would melt a Titanic sized iceberg in the minute and a half it takes for her to sing it. The main songs are lyrically insightful and mature and her voice is a perfect compliment. The music itself is spare and lean which only adds power to the astounding vocals. The only real way to express the experience is to ask that you get this cd and experience it for yourself (i-tunes has it). Pearls. Erin. Dublin Boys. Dandelion. All fantastic. Judas is sheer brilliance. Jesus is the golden boy who got all the breaks while Judas Iscariot sat at the back of the bus and his father got drunk and beat him. Wow. And what guy wouldn't absolutely crumble under every word they dreamed and wished someone would say to them? Opium. Come on. Seriously, don't let this artist pass you by. Listen and thank me for the recommend later.
